Occasioned by the Dutch losing possession of the town, lasted 9 months after which Frederick Henry(the Dutch Stadtholder) managed to regain possession from the invading Spanish army and Ferdinand of Austria. Here is a beautiful antique map by Willem Bleau[Tabula Islandiae Auctore Georgio Carolo Flandro] From[Theatrum Orbis terrerum, sive, Atlas Novus] published by Willem and Johannes Blaeu, Amsterdam, hand-colored copper engraving on laid paper, mid 17th century. Fair condition, unframed, paper has some discoloration and chipping on the edges, as well as a couple small holes in the bottom border. There is also a 1" long slit in the paper on the right side stemming from where there is some chipping(it looks like someone started to make a crooked cut in this edge some time ago) Some pencil writing on the back. There is a 3/8" strip of old masking tape on the back that runs the length of the top of the map and 4" down each side. This tape was used to mount this map to the old matte. Up for auction is this delightful small sized teapot It is in good condition overall. The silver plating shines up beautifully still with very minimal signs of wear. The hinged lid needs attention though as it is currently missing two loops for the bar to fit through to hold it in place. As can be seen it can come off easily! I purchased this wonderful Museum Quality Art with its unique historical importance on Maui in’94 and have enjoyed it immensely ever since. Sketched(then later engraved) by John Webber. The ship’s artist to british explorer Captain James Cook when he discovered the Hawaiian Islands on his“Third and Final Voyage” in 1778 while searching for a northwest passage. This is one of the sought after“first published” London plate prints of 1784. It has steadily risen in value over the years. The last appraisal was in 2006 where it appraised for $11,000($9,500 for the print, plus $1,500 for the Koa wood frame) It has likely increased in value since then, and will probably continue to do so. LARGE ANTIQUE DEEP WALNUT FRAME WITH BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE ENGRAVING OF TWO WOMEN– name on lower center is“PRES DES CASCADES– NEAR THE FALLS. Walnut frame and engraving are both circa 1860– 1880’s. Probably original to the frame. Old wavy glass and old wood backing. Both probably original to the frame. Two women are seated near waterfalls– each is wearing a fancy Victorian dress. Bonnets, and one is holding a parasol. Maybe Niagara Falls? Antique print has some all-over age discoloration. More noticeable on the margins than on the print. The discoloration does not detract from the print because it is hardly noticeable. Framed in an early Victorian walnut frame with original Victorian gold tone liner- both in original condition– a few discolorations on the gold tone liner– especially on the lower edge– see my pictures. The outer corners of the ... moreframe are tight– no wiggle. No spaces. Frame has old glass and wood backing. The lower right edge of the print is marked: ANNEDOUCHE SCULP. The lower left edge is marked: BROCHARD PINX The lower center has the title of the print PRES DES CASCADES– NEAR THE FALLS. In small print below the engraving is IMPRIME PAR ALFRED JARDON JEUNE 3 RUE RACINE PARIS. At the very bottom is AM WASSERFALL. I have added photos of the writing but it is very light. Frame outside edges measured from the back are 26 ½ inches by 31 ¾ inches. Frame& contents weigh about 12- 13 pounds before any packing materials. It is copper wheel engraved on four sides with roses and grapevines. The top rim is scalloped. The piece was blown in three sections- bowl. Stem and foot, and joined by the glassblower, in the nineteenth century method. It has a polished pontil. It dates to circa 1870. The celery stands 8 inches tall by 4 inches wide.
