An excellent 1850's white Ironstone T & R Boote Basin Bowl, 15.25" in diameter and 5.5" tall. It is marked with the early mark of a circle around "T & ... moreR Boote, Grenade Pattern". It has no cracks or noticeable chips. There are a few tiny flecks here and there along the rim that may be kiln stilt marks and one small fleck from the inside of the bowl. Some expected discoloration and surface crazing and I have shown some photos as examples. A great basin bowl for use as a table centerpiece, to pair with a lonely large Ironstone pitcher or use as a huge food serving piece! Ships by FedEx Ground.

Large Ancient Greek Daunian Painted Pottery Bull Bowl - 500 B.C.
A large. Rare, ancient Italic Daunian bowl dating to approximately 500 B.C. The piece is decorated with a cruciform effigy internally. With geometric and angular motif around, rendered in black and umber. In between the looped handles on each side are pairs of large pointed horns, perhaps indicating a ceremonial function. Many cultures, including the Greeks, revered bulls for their strength and virility. Daunia was a historical region in southern Italy about which little is known. Unlike the Apulian Greeks. The Daunian potters were, on the whole, more influenced by native Italic ceramic traditions. Despite their great beauty. Daunian pottery has been little studied, relative to other ceramics from the region. Condition: Very good condition. Restored from large fragments. Diameter including handles: 13 1/8 inches. Height: 3 5/8 inches. Provenance: ... moreEx. Its harbour was one of the main on the for the export of cereals. Fish, and slaves to Greece, and for the import of Attic goods to. Olbia and other Greek colonies along the north coast of the Black Sea in the 5th century B.C. The site of the Greek colony covers the area of fifty hectares and its fortifications form an isosceles triangle about a mile long and half a mile wide. The region was also the site of several villages(modern Victorovka and Dneprovskoe) which may have been settled by Greeks. As for the town itself. The lower ... moretown(now largerly submerged by the Bug river) was occupied chiefly by the dockyards and the houses of artisans. The upper town was a main residential quarter, composed of square blocks and centered on the agora. The town was ringed by a defensive stone wall with towers. There is evidence that the town itself was laid out over a grid plan from the 6th century- one of the first after the town of Smyrna. By the later period of settlement. The city also included an acropolis and, from the 6th century B.C. a religious sanctuary. In the early 5th century, a temple to Apollo Delphinios was also built on the site. The first evidence of Greek settlement at the site comes from Berezan Island where pottery has been found dating from the late 7th century. It is possible that it had been the site of an earlier native settlement and may even have been a peninsular rather than an island in antiquity. It is not thought that the Berezan town survived until the 5th centur
