Vintage Corn planter-Sheffield Mfg Company primative rustic
This is a vintage corn- vegetable planter. It a very rustic and decorative piece, it has a wood handle and steel body, the jaws do open and spring closed but I wouldnt recoment using this to plant as one side of the jaw spring is broke and wouldnt stand up to actual useage for long. it appears to be all original paint which is hard to find on this type item because of its useage.please view pics and ask questions prior to bidding, thanks

Old Vintage International Harvester Corn Planter Check Row Wire Stake Yard Art
Old Vintage International Harvester Corn Planter Check Row Wire Stake Yard Art Who-hoo- went to my first auction of the summer- it was a farm estate auction literally right down the street from me. The former owners had lived there since he had gotten out of the military after enlisting during WWII. And her family had been on the property for generations before that. It’s all farm stuff- household, barn, outbuildings, property- many items from the 1800s and up. Lot of old iron, barn digs, primitives and pretties- I’m so excited to show them to you! Enjoy! You may be a farm item collector. But I see all of these old barn pieces in a different light- from funcky iron art yard art, so industrial wall art- whatever way you go- it's a piece of Americana history! What I have is an old cast iron check row wire stake- used in check row planting ... moreof corn. Check row planting was a method of planting where each hill of 2, 3 or 4 seeds was exactly the same distance from the adjoining hills. At the end of the day, a planted field had the appearance of a checkerboard, with a hill of cornstalks at the exact intersection of each line. It helped make it much easier to keep the fields clear of weeds, but with the onset of chemical weed products, this type of planting fell along the wayside. The check wire that this stake used to hold would have buttons on it that were placed for the desired row spacing. Now, I don't know exactly how this stake worked to hold the wire, but the construction seems pretty simple and pretty self explanatory to me. Measuring 39 1/2" tall, it is 6 1/4" widest and weighs 2 3/4 lbs. It's in excellent solid and sturdy condition- I noticed that the center pole bends slightly off straight at one spot toward the bototm- it's minor. I'm showing in photo 12 that it has an International Harvester mark in the center- it is also painted barn red, and doesn't appear to have ever been any other color. Vintage Antique Acme Queen City Corn Seeder with Pumpkin Attachment
Six Acres per day is what you can plant with this Vintage Antique Acme"Queen City" Seed Planter with Pumpkin Seed Attachment. This is a used planter with the initials of one of it's owner carved inside below the top handle. This planter is in very good shape. The planter stands 34 inches tall. The Acme Company patented this design on Sept 11. 1900. It is unique that this seed can drop two types of seeds into the same planting hole. Typically corn was placed into the large hopper with pumpkin seed in the lower small hopper. When the jaws opened a slide would draw the seeds into the tube running inside of the jaws. This unique design was a labor saving tool of it's time. This is an antique corn planter. American Standard No. 3. It is approximately 33" tall and 11" wide at the widest area. I've tried to show all the writing that is on the handle. Dates listed on the handle are July 25 1893. Aug 20 1901. Sheffield Mfg. Co, Burr Oak, Mich U.S.A. Has various scratches etc. due to age. But as far as I can tell it has all the working parts but I do not guarantee that. I have not tested it to see if it works. The Seed box is tin with a hinged wood lid. The hinge/spike pieces and the metal section between the two pieces of wood are metal. It seems to be operational. The back and forth spring action still works. The wood has lost a piece at the top where one of the handles attaches. See close-up photo. Handle is on tight and sturdy though. 34" long. This is for the piece you see here. I am not sure the make of this piece. Possibly ACME? Not sure. Nor am I sure the age. There are some words stenciled onto the back side(photo#12) but I cannot make out what they say. This would make a very nice decorating piece. The metal hopper looks very old. The top to the hopper needs to be resecured on the one side. The other side is secured with a nail. I believe this is how it was made, though I cannot be sure of that. Stands 34" tall.
