Antique N. C. Hand Carved Wooden Tobacco Planter Tool
This is an antique hand carved wooden tool used to punch a hole in the soil and then plant tobacco seedlings. It belonged to my wife's grandfather(maybe his father also? she's not sure) so it was made and used in the heart of tobacco country. North Carolina. If you enlarge the pictures(especially the close-ups) you can see the details of the carving. The large end is cut at an angle of approximately 45 degrees so it will fit comfortably in your hand. ANTIQUE HAND SEEDER/PLANTER THE AMERICAN STANDARD Condition Is good to very good showing an operational antique hand seeder/planter. The wooden arm contains stencils of"The American Standard" on the front and"Sheffield MF'G Co. Burr Oak, Mich. U.S.A. and"Patent Oct. 13, 1891& Patent July 25, 1893" on the back. The wood is not broken, split or cracked and the metal mechanics of the hopper work good and smooth. At the bottom of the hopper the metal disc ratchets and drops a seed down the shoot, the spring on the side pushes the foot lever forward and automatically resets for the next seed to be planted. This is an antique corn planter. American Standard No. 3. It is approximately 33" tall and 11" wide at the widest area. I've tried to show all the writing that is on the handle. Dates listed on the handle are July 25 1893. Aug 20 1901. Sheffield Mfg. Co, Burr Oak, Mich U.S.A. Has various scratches etc. due to age. But as far as I can tell it has all the working parts but I do not guarantee that. I have not tested it to see if it works. Old Primitive Antique Bulb Digger Hand Held Planter Wood& Iron Americana Folk So. I went to the auction of a lifetime this past weekend. A storage barn of an antiques dealer that passed about 10 years ago. She specialized in early primitives and American folk art and boy-oh-boy you do not want to miss this week. I took photos of the items that I bought for one full day, and still am not finished– but decided to go ahead and list what I have– enjoy! You know. I've only ever sold one other of these before- it's a fabulous antique garden tool that you still could use today. What I have is an old bulb digger/planter. A simple too, with a solid oak handle that is capped with an iron spike at the end. It's really comfortable to hold, and appears to be hand made. It measures 4" long at the handle, and then turns and is 9 1/2 ... morelong from the corner to the end of the spike. It weighs just over 1/2 lb, so is pretty hefty for the size. The spike is attached with 3 small nails or pins- whatever you call them. It will wiggle ever so slightly if you jiggle it back and forth, but don't worry, it's slight(and may be original to the making) the spike is well attached and this is a totally usable tool. The wood is in excellent condition structurally and shows lots of wear from age and use- there's scratches, scrapes, nicks, dings, dark spots and light spots. I'm showing you the largest scrape in photo 14- it's about 1" and it's shallow and right up by the top of the spike on one side. The spike has surface rust that is very light, old and smooth- just part of the patina- which is dark for the whole thing. It's a fabulous antique tool that looks as good as it works! This seeder is a Kansas barn fresh find and has not been cleaned or restored. The seeder is great original condition with original red paint and rustic patina(see images) The 6" handle and spinning mechanism turn freely but could use a good cleaning and some oil. The spinning blade is galvanized metal and is stamped"80793" The seeder measures ~ 17" L x 6 1/2" W x 2 1/2" H and weighs 3 lbs, the original seed bag is missing. It has a great rustic patina, aged to perfection and a great accent to a rustic decor. This auction is for an old planter. It has a great industrial steampunk look. It has some great patina and with some oiling of the parts could easily be used again. You would wear this piece with the canvas part going over your neck and the half round part around your belly waist and then turn the handle spraying seeds in front of you as you walk. The canvas area is pretty shot and would need to be replaced but at least some of it is still there to use a template most do not have any of this left. It has some words on it and I think it reads Cahoon Seeds Antrim N.H. New Hampshire. It measures approx. 12 inches wide and 11 inches tall. The main body. Thanks for loo king.

Acme Co. Fertilizer Hand Held Planter Very Rare Antique Patents for the earliest hand-held units date back to the 1850s. The Acme Co. was among the first to manufacture the planters. My 1902 Sears. Roebuck& Co. catalog advertised the Acme planter for 56 cents, His collection covers 100 years of corn-planter evolution. Four wooden planters in his collection were patented in the 1850s and 1860s; each is considered rare. And one is a salesman’s sample. One(patented in 1867) was a top-of-the-line model complete with a sight glass, allowing the farmer to monitor seed drop. Before the planters of the 1850s. Farmers carried a sack of seed corn on their shoulder and used a stick to poke a hole in the soil where they then dropped seed. Hand-held planters evolved rapidly during the roughly 60-year period before large mechanical planters became ... morecommonplace. The hollow stick used by early farmers gave way to a one-hand unit with a trigger-release hopper. Next came units with two hoppers on the handle: one for seed and the other for fertilizer(some even planted corn and pumpkin seeds in one pass) Ultimately, the hand-held unit was relegated to garden use or to“fill in” gaps in fields. An“automatic” model was patented in about 1891: The operator walked along while pushing the tip into the ground. As he moved forward. A lever assembly on the bottom of the unit touched the ground and caused a seed to be dropped. Apparently four acres a day could be planted using the automatic model.

Vintage 10" Hand Made Tin Watering Garden Pitcher or Planter 2 Gallon
This is a really neat hand made tin water pitcher with a spout for sale. Somebody made this out of an old 2 Gallon tin can. Added a couple handles and a spout, very neat and they did a nice job. It can function as a watering pitcher, but when I got it was being used as a planter. Bit dirty inside that should clean up nicely, but nice condition with only some minor paint wear, no dents or rust. Stands 10" tall not including top handle. Outstanding Antique Hand Held Corn Seeder. by American Planter Co. Burr Oak Michigan. Great looking antique, perfect for display. Corn seeders are not super rare as so many farms had them, but this one still has original sticker in place& works very well. It has some dirt& rust, but it screams 1890's America. Stands about 32 inches& weighs about 5 pounds. I love the design& took many photos for your consideration. Simple& efficient. No wonder so many families had one for there home& garden. Load the corn, press down& plant, just that simple. No bending, no digging, really cool. I always pack gently. Even tough old items like this. Let us know if you have questions.
