Antique RARE Cast Iron & Metal Wire Arrangement Holder Flower Frog
Description This unusual and rare antique flower frog would have been used to create a beautiful floral arrangement. Vintage flower frogs are very popular and still used today. This one dates to c1920. The top wire is in a star shape. The others are circles to hold the flower stems. The wires can be bent to allow flowers to rest in any direction. The heavy cast metal base holds the flowers securely. These frogs will fit in the bottom of any bowl or vase that is more than 4" diameter. The underside of the base still has its original green paint. The top paint is worn from use over the decades. Measurements: 4" in diameter at the base and is 8" tall. This is a charming little antique"posy basket flower holder! It is cast iron and painted a bright. Daffodil yellow. Please look all of my pictures carefully to see detail and condition! Basket measures 10 1/2" tall X 3 1/2" wide X 1 3/4" deep so it is rather narrow; handle is exaggeratedly tall. It is also an odd design in that it has 3"feet" at the bottom. Outside shows some paint wear and inside is RUSTY. I can't find any maker's marks on this piece so I don't know where it was made or by whom though I do think it is old. This antique planter does have wear& I'm not sure that the top hanger is original. But it is the same just painted white. The 9 spots that hook to the tower are 3 1/8" wide. The bottom one is 7 1/2" wide. The tower is the cool part. You can put a thick mulch in it& plant in it too, I had to dig the antique mulch out of it. Nice antique hanging basket hook/ bracket. It looks to be in good condition. Probably best suited for indoor use as I see a strong wind blowing a hanging planter off the end. Some have some sticky putty on the bottom that I have not tried to clean and some have a bit of greenery debris in the nails. There are 2 large round that measure 3 1/8" wide x 1" tall. Neither have any bent of missing nails. There is a round copper colored with 2 side indents that measures 2 1/8" x ¾" tall with no bent nails and a little bit of debris in the nails. Antique Lead Flower Frog. Wonderful old flower frog in the form of romaine lettuce leaves. This piece is unmarked and made of lead; it weighs 14.7 ounces. It appears to be a handmade item and has an irregular shaped circular base with applied tabs to hold the sections together. It has a green painted finish which in our opinion is original. The frog stands 3 1/8” 8 cm) tall and has six open bottom sections to hold the flower stems. The flat base has a diameter of 3 ¾” 9.4 cm) measured at its widest point. Condition: This flower holder is in very good condition. But does have one break in the flat base. There is slight discoloration on the top of the green base, possibly from hard water staining. All of the frogs. In this lot, are clear with the exception of an orange carnival glass and one that is slightly purple from sun exposure. The largest is 5 1/4" across and has 16 holes. Next largest is 4 1/4" across and is domed and footed-13 holes. Sun purple is 3 1/2" across. Footed and flat top with 18 holes. Half circle shape has 6 holes. A wonderful pair of plant holders They are large measuring approx 24" long by 11.5" wide by 8" deep. Good used condition showing age wear. The grape leaves are metal but the grapes appear to be a clear glass on wire with some of the grapes missing. The rest of the grapes could be removed. The holders appear to have been repainted awhile ago and you can see some rust. They are heavy weighing over 2 pounds each.
