This is a vintage corn- vegetable planter. It a very rustic and decorative piece, it has a wood handle and steel body, the jaws do open and spring closed but I wouldnt recoment using this to plant as one side of the jaw spring is broke and wouldnt stand up to actual useage for long. it appears to be all original paint which is hard to find on this type item because of its useage.please view pics and ask questions prior to bidding, thanks

Old Vintage International Harvester Corn Planter Check Row Wire Stake Yard Art
Old Vintage International Harvester Corn Planter Check Row Wire Stake Yard Art Who-hoo- went to my first auction of the summer- it was a farm estate auction literally right down the street from me. The former owners had lived there since he had gotten out of the military after enlisting during WWII. And her family had been on the property for generations before that. It’s all farm stuff- household, barn, outbuildings, property- many items from the 1800s and up. Lot of old iron, barn digs, primitives and pretties- I’m so excited to show them to you! Enjoy! You may be a farm item collector. But I see all of these old barn pieces in a different light- from funcky iron art yard art, so industrial wall art- whatever way you go- it's a piece of Americana history! What I have is an old cast iron check row wire stake- used in check row planting ... moreof corn. Check row planting was a method of planting where each hill of 2, 3 or 4 seeds was exactly the same distance from the adjoining hills. At the end of the day, a planted field had the appearance of a checkerboard, with a hill of cornstalks at the exact intersection of each line. It helped make it much easier to keep the fields clear of weeds, but with the onset of chemical weed products, this type of planting fell along the wayside. The check wire that this stake used to hold would have buttons on it that were placed for the desired row spacing. Now, I don't know exactly how this stake worked to hold the wire, but the construction seems pretty simple and pretty self explanatory to me. Measuring 39 1/2" tall, it is 6 1/4" widest and weighs 2 3/4 lbs. It's in excellent solid and sturdy condition- I noticed that the center pole bends slightly off straight at one spot toward the bototm- it's minor. I'm showing in photo 12 that it has an International Harvester mark in the center- it is also painted barn red, and doesn't appear to have ever been any other color. ANTIQUE CORN PLANTER SIGNED NAT W. FOSTER ~ INTERESTING GENEALOGY?
Up for bid is an antique corn planter. Measuring approximately 34-1/2" long x 2-1/2" x 15-3/4" high, inclusive of handle, which is signed, twice, Nat W. Foster. I research this gentleman, as discovered the following information, which possibly could be connected to this tool: Was born on the homstead[sic] near Durhamville, N.Y. May 10, 1832, and was educated in the public schools and Clinton Liberal Institute. He has been a salesman on the road several years, but is now a farmer and horse breeder. December 15, 1862, he married Lucy Clark, of Verona, by whom he had one son, Frank C. Mrs. Foster died in 1866, and March 18, 1874, he married Rebecca Smith, of Litchfield, Herkimer county. December 22, 1886, Frank C. Foster married Anna M. Currin, by whom he had two daughters: Lucy M. and Evelina M. Mr. Foster's father, Franklin ... moreFoster, was born in Herkimer county, N.Y. January 30, 1805, and in October, 1829, he married Maria Segar, of New York Mills, and they came here in January, 1830. They had three children: Nathaniel W. as above, Mary S. and Elnora, who died in infancy. Three of the Foster brothers came here into the primeval forest, where wild beasts were plenty; two of them were contractors(Julius and Orson) and erected the trestle on the N.Y.C. H.R.R. at Oneida, and were the pioneer contractors on the N.Y.E. W. Railroad near Elmira. Frank Foster died in 1878, and his wife in 1876. His grandfather, Nathaniel Foster, was born in 1788, and his great-grandfather, Timothy Foster, in 1749. Johan, son of Josiah, was born on Long Island, February 7, 1721. This is an antique corn planter. American Standard No. 3. It is approximately 33" tall and 11" wide at the widest area. I've tried to show all the writing that is on the handle. Dates listed on the handle are July 25 1893. Aug 20 1901. Sheffield Mfg. Co, Burr Oak, Mich U.S.A. Has various scratches etc. due to age. But as far as I can tell it has all the working parts but I do not guarantee that. I have not tested it to see if it works. Antique Acme Primitive Farm Tool Corn Bean Planter
For auction is a primitive corn planter farm tool manufactured by a company in Philadelphia whose name is hard to read. It is the Acme model and carries a patent date of 9/11/1900. The graphic on the handle indicates that it was sold with the pumpkin seed attachment but that appears to have been lost over the years. The hopper that holds the seeds is rusty but otherwise it appears to be in good condition. With some effort. Even the slide on the front of the hopper works. It is 33 3/4" long and the wooden handles are undamaged. This would make a great wall hanger as a memory from times past.

This is for the piece you see here. I am not sure the make of this piece. Possibly ACME? Not sure. Nor am I sure the age. There are some words stenciled onto the back side(photo#12) but I cannot make out what they say. This would make a very nice decorating piece. The metal hopper looks very old. The top to the hopper needs to be resecured on the one side. The other side is secured with a nail. I believe this is how it was made, though I cannot be sure of that. Stands 34" tall. The photos show the true condition. Comes just as you see it here. Please look close and be sure to ask whatever questions you may have.

ANTIQUE ACME DOUBLE CORN SEEDER & FERTILIZER PLANTER
Made by ACME. This new invention of the late 20's early 30's allowed a farmer to plant corn seed and add a little fertilizer at the same time. One hopper is filled with corn and the other side with fertilizer. You would push the jaws on the bottom into the ground and corn seed was dropped a few inches apart as you open the handles. In addition a small amount of fertilizer was dropped in the center as to not touch the seeds which prevented the seeds from burning. What a great invention for the time! Seeder would look great in a garden or shed!

Corn seeders are not super rare as so many farms had them, but this one still has original sticker in place& works very well. It has some dirt& rust, but it screams 1890's America. Stands about 32 inches& weighs about 5 pounds. I love the design& took many photos for your consideration. Simple& efficient. No wonder so many families had one for there home& garden.
