This classic victorian style piano stool is very pretty. And would make a great restoration project. The bottom frame is composed of cast iron. It is beautifully engraved and features three gorgeous twisted legs that add volumes to the overall style. The seat portion appears to be made of pine. It looks as if it was just the base that a padded cushion or covering was glued to. You can see some of the left over residue from this in the pictures. The cast iron portion is in great shape, with no dents, dings or bends whatsoever. The part that adjust spins up and down quite smoothly. There is light surface rust in a few places that should be very easy to remove. It is around 18" tall, and the legs are 18" apart at there widest points. This is a very nice piece! These four cast iron and glass ball feet came off a piano stool which was beyond repair. The feet are about 4” tall. With a 7/8” inside diameter opening, that tapers to about ½” at the bottom. The glass balls are full of tiny bubbles, have a horizontal casting seam in the middle, and a ½” diameter flattened spot on the bottom. This will cast them at approximately an 80 °( angle when flat on the floor. They are dirty and the gold paint is worn. Otherwise. They are in good, antique condition. October 23, 1866, Piano Stool, Dec' 10, 1867, Patent Peterboro, N.H" I'm guessing one of the dates is the'Patent Date' and the other the date of actual manufacturer. However, I'm not an antique expert so I really am guessing? It is authentic and original. Except for the wood seat which is made of plywood. Someone along the stools long history has replaced the wood seat top. All the bolts, and the wood pedestal appear to be original, including the three iron legs. I believe the legs are made of cast iron? The wood pedestal has a pretty large crack in it, so it would have to be repaired if you actually intend to use it for sitting. The wood is ... morerough, I would be rough too if I were that old. Hehe! I'm really looking for a serious buyer who can restore this beauty or leave it intact with the intent of preserving its history. This is a wood and cast iron Victorian piano stool but could also be used as a foot stool. This is a Victorian original probably made sometime in the late 1800's. The base is made of solid wood with a dark stain and the seat is upholstered with either the ORIGINAL tapestry or a replacement from very near the same time period. The tapestry is that of an urn with flowers in it. And both the tapestry and the fringe are in great, usable shape. Such an old historic fabric in such good shape, is rarer than the stool itself. There is a small part of the cast iron base plate that is missing but it does not affect the stability or function of the stool. The seat is stable and spins freely. As it should.
