The entire surface is inlaid with some rather intricate marquetry work, the musical instruments central to the commode are flanked on either side by books hanging from knotted ribbon, the same arrangement employed on either side of the case. Two large drawers make up the case, each crafted of solid oak secondaries dovetailed front and back. The surface is embellished with bold gilded bronze mounts along the apron, at each corner of the top and along the entire length of each leg, these terminating in very attractive Lion's paw sabots. The shaped marble top is heavy and in wonderful condition, restored at the back left corner. This is a simply outstanding work for anyone passionate about Neoclassical forms. It is a very formal and angular form that never tires or grows out of fashion. Perfect for a vivid interior, this is a piece that works flexibly in any number of design scenarios.
