American Federal Period Bowfront Splay Foot Chest of Drawers, New England c 1810
Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Federal Period Inlaid Mahogany Bowfront Chest of Drawers New England States. C. 1810 Featuring solid mahogany planks making up the sides and top of this fine case. Dovetailed into the pine secondary woods of the bottom, nailed at the top, this beautiful chest of drawers from the first quarter of the 19th Century has delightful petite proportions that make it convenient for most rooms. The bow front drawers are built up of strips of pine, covered with a flamed mahogany veneer and inlaid in an ovular shape from side to side, framing the Hepplewhite style replaced hardware and wooden keyhole escutcheons(also probably replaced) The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, somewhat rebuilt as noted in the condition statement below, ... moreand in smooth operating condition, flowing easily in and out of the case for a fully functional appeal. These are divided with a yellow pine backed and mahogany veneered bar, presumably dovetailing into the side of the case behind the veneers. A fine inlay encases the drawers and sides, with diamond form cut in satinwood and ebonized wood to bring clean lines to the case. A softly scalloped apron curves gracefully between the splayed French feet, each fully original including all blocking and interior support. The back is made up of three pine boards, each connecting to the next with tongue-and-groove joinery, nailed along the sides, entirely original. This is an absolutely gorgeous work of Early Americana of the Federal Period. The delicate proportions being one of the most desirable aspects of this fine chest. In simply outstanding visual condition, with full strength and function in all parts, clean and well preserved, this is a wonderful compliment to any fine home. You will treasure this beautiful work of art and it will certainly become a family heirloom, passed down through the generations to come and fully enjoyed in your home. early empire mahogany chest dresser turned columns very early period piece
for sale a very early empire chest of drawers or dresser. made of mahogany. this piece is as old as dirt. the drawer bottoms and the back of the chest is all hand chamfered. the joints are all hand cut dovetails. what few nails were used to stabilize the bottom of the drawers to the back are square nails. it features four drawers. None the same size. one large one on the top that is stepped out under which are situated two nicely spiral turned columns which come to rest on a platform that the turned front legs affix to. back legs are also turned. the feet or legs all have casters inserted in them. there is a molded trim along the bottom of the chest. it has a few minor dings here and there, none of which take away from its function or beauty plus there are a couple of small pieces of boards chipped out. they are all small and doubtful any ... morewill show in the pictures. it was faded and sun bleached when i dug it out of the barn. i cleaned it with new life and then rubbed a bit of stain on it and sprayed it with lacquer to dry the stain. i do not think it has ever been refinished. at any rate, it is a nice solid very old dresser. i am starting it for less than i paid years ago. 500 back then would make a pretty good down payment on a new car. it is a fairly large chest being 22.5 inches deep, 43 inches wide, and 48 inches tall. overall a very nice hand crafted empire chest made circa 1860. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. good luck.

Legend goes that this was designed a long time ago(you can find them nowadays coming out of Germany. Belgium and Denmark) This particular dresser represented the workers seven days of the week and he had the respective clothes with Sunday being the most special day, so it held the most clothes. They were never made with handles and the drawers ... moreare opened with the use of a key. Some people argue that the white escutcheon it is a plastic composite and other say it is celluloid. I just say it is very nice to keep it original. This particular chest dates from the 1850s era and is in wonderful condition. It comes with a large original key and all the locks appear to lock, but we never guarantee our locks to work as they always have to be peeled apart, oiled and maintained as they are very fussy. The chest itself is breathtaking. Look at the selection of the flame mahogany that adorns the face of the hand cut dove tail drawers! The simplicity of no handles is a very stylish move. It has a clamshell molded top and ends with a bun foot that shows signs of the old European wood borers that used to b u rrow into the wood and they are all gone. But does show signs. It is all good and bug free! The only thing I can see wrong with it is that there was a little chip on the right hand side that the warehouse has professionally repaired and I can’t even see it in the photos. Dating from the 1850s, we just got in a few pieces of Biedermeier on this last container and we are so pleased with the variety. We got in seven drawer chests, wardrobes, abbantants and even bar cabinets, commodes and tall chests! As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life. This particular item has black highlights or ebony highlights olive ash burl with brown mahogany sides seven drawer chests. They theory goes is that they had seven drawers for each day of the week. Since Sunday was dress up day, it is the largest drawer. There was never any hardware as the keys were used to open the drawers. This chest does not have a key, but it has all the locks and key hole escutcheons. We do not guarantee the locks to work as they are always finicky and need to be oiled and adjusted to work properly. The drawers are all hand cut dove tail and pine secondary wood. The sides are a 45 degree angle and ebonized highlight with an olive ash match panel going the entire length. They come down into a 45 degree angle molding on the top and the base. The base has bun feet in the front and block feet in the back. The top has the typical step back cove molding

Circa 1870 Mahogany Bow front Sturdy See description for full condition report, This stunning handcrafted piece was made in England in 1870. The warm patina of the mahogany has a satin luster that would mesh well with most decorating styles. The outward bow of the facade brings an element of brightening elegance to any setting. The two-on-three style drawers provide a great deal of storage. All of the drawers come equipped with all-brass hardware and lock escutcheons. However there is no key. The edges of the drawers are ... moredecorated with a fine bead molding. Just under the top molding is a handsomely inlaid double end spear design done from satinwood string inlay. The piece sits on a pair of very sturdy shaped bracket feet. The dresser is around 145 years old and in good condition overall. The drawers open easily and shut tight. The brass pulls are fastened securely to the drawers although they are not original to this antique dresser. There is a small chip in one as pictured. The mold around the top has been repaired on all sides. There is also a strong repair on the front right foot. You will find some separation marks in the darker spots on both sides and along the front moulding. There are signs of character building wear on the entire piece and the top has a number of light marks and stains. The pictures are a great representation of the condition. None of these items listed above have any sort of effect on the structural integrity of the piece as it is very sturdy. Wonderful antique dressers like this are hard to find. We are pleased to be offering today this gorgeous seven drawer period Beidermeier flame mahogany dresser that comes with seven drawers to depicted the seven days of the week. Legend goes that this was designed a long time ago(you can find them nowadays coming out of Germany. Belgium and Denmark) This particular dresser represented the workers seven days of the week and he had the respective clothes with Sunday being the most special day, so it held the most clothes. They were never made with handles and the drawers are opened with the use of a key. Some people argue that the white escutcheon it is a plastic composite and other say it is celluloid. I just say it is very nice to keep it original. This particular chest dates from the 1850s era and is in wonderful condition. It comes with a large original key and all the locks appear to lock, ... morebut we never guarantee our locks to work as they always have to be peeled apart, oiled and maintained as they are very fussy. The chest itself is breathtaking. Look at the selection of the flame mahogany that adorns the face of the hand cut dove tail drawers! The simplicity of no handles is a very stylish move. It has a clamshell molded top and ends with a bun foot that shows signs of the old European wood borers that used to burrow into the wood and they are all gone, but does show signs. It is all good and bug free! The only thing I can see wrong with it is that there was a little chip on the right hand side that the warehouse has professionally repaired and I can’t even see it in the photos. It is all original with even the original chamfered back. It comes apart on top to the second drawer of the base if you want to make it a little shorter for shipping. It is 40 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 63 inches tall. It offers tons of storage in a very stylish and classic cabinet frame.
