Fancy Oak& Chestnut Victorian Marble Top Dresser with Ornate Carved Wishbone Mirror circa 1880's Being offered for sale is this superb Victorian Fancy Oak& Chestnut highly carved marble top dresser that features a detailed. Very ornate carved wishbone mirror, fancy carved key escutcheons on the drawer fronts and the original wood pulls on the drawers with dove-tailed joinery on the drawer ends. This fine 19th century dresser measures 77 inches in height to the top of the carved crest on the mirror. Height to the marble at the front measures 33 3/4 inches, width measures 40 inches and depth front to back is 19 1/4 inches and this dresser weighs approximately 150 lbs. The actual mirror portion measures 24 inches high by 12 3/4 inches wide. This dresser does dis-assemble into 4 separate pieces for easier handling during shipping ... moreand moving. This dresser is solid and tight and the mirror portion rests sturdy and straight. The framed mirror does pivot front to back to adjust viewing. All the locks are intact on the drawers except the top left, but we do not have the key. The original beveled edge marble top is in beautiful antique condition with no chips or cracks. The left side does show a bottom edge divot that you may be able to see if you zoom in on the left side picture of the dresser at the marble.definitely not a distraction but just wanted to point that out. This marble top dresser has gorgeous crotch mahogany on the drawer fronts surrounded by beautiful ribbon molding and the original wood pulls. This splendid dresser measures a total height of 80 inches to the top of the mirror. Height to the top of the marble top glove boxes is 39 inches, height to the marble top center measures 34 inches, a total width of 43 1/2 inches wide and 19 inches deep and weighs approximately 160 lbs. The gorgeous wishbone mirror is framed in crotch mahogany with beaded trim and rests in matching arm supports(old repair on left arm support.see close-up) The width of the mirror frame measures 27 1/2 inches and the old ... moreoriginal mirror measures 27 1/2 inches high by 15 1/2 inches wide. The wishbone mirror rests is a turned mahogany slot on top of the center storage drawer flanked by marble top glove box drawers and a drop marble top center.The base offers three large storage drawers each having gorgeous crotch mahogany fronts, wood pulls and beautiful ribbon mahogany trim that encases each drawer. All the drawers have early period dove-tailing, and all the locks are intact but we do not have the key. There are two small spots where the veneer is missing(about 1 inch long on the left side above the second and third drawer) and the left wood pull on the top center drawer has been repaired, also a piece of the vertical ribbon molding is missing on the bottom right side at the base corner. Victorian Walnut chest dresser with wishbone mirror late 1800's acorn pulls
This is a very nice walnut dresser with wishbone mirror. As far as we know it is all original. It has been owned by one family for the past 70 years. We do not know the history of it prior to that. The piece is in very good condition with exception of a crack on the top of the right hand glove box and a couple dark stains on the top of the dresser. As you know. Any antique furniture will have minor nicks. We have not tried to repair anything, but did apply a good furniture oil to the entire surface. Acorn pull handles. VICTORIAN Burl Walnut Wishbone Mirror DRESSER& Gentleman's CHEST This elegant Victorian drop front Wishbone Mirror dresser chest and matching Ladies' or Gentleman's chest is constructed of walnut with burl accents. The style is consistent with the period of"Renaissance Revival. Ca. 1860. They both have the original finish, wooden casters and working antique keys. These pieces feature Renaissance Revival/ Rococo elements including serpentine ribbed"carpenter's lace" on the edges and around the dresser's tilt mirror. They have applied hand carved drawer pulls. Escutcheons and other decorative elements in a leaf and flower design. The corners and edges are rounded. And the casings around the drawers and most edges are curved and double or triple ribbed. The dresser has a wishbone tilt mirror on pedestal ... morebase. Handkerchief drawers and three large drawers. There are turned finials on the mirror posts and spindles on the sides of the handkerchief drawers. The three large drawers lock. The chest has an upper cabinet with shelf. Probably for hats or bonnets, one small drawer possibly for gloves and another larger drawer at the bottom. The top part of the cabinet features cathedral shaped burled panel doors that close with a hook on the inside and a lock. The drawers do not lock. Measurements: Dresser- 42" W x 20" D x 42" to top of small drawers x 77" H Chest- 34" W x 16" D x 44" H The overall condition is very good considering the age. One spindle on the dresser's outer left handkerchief drawer has a missing part of about 1/2 inch. There are minor cracks on the sides.
