The pediment does have one little round knob missing(see picture) It broke off years and years ago. Still looks beautiful and I don't think it's really noticable. The seat. Back and arms are covered with a gorgeous detailed woven carpet(all original) like material which is directly nailed to the frame. All original nails and is still sturdy(see pictures) I wouldn't make this an everyday chair to sit in. I have had it for years and it has always been used as an accent in my livingroom. Each arm rest does have a turn knob on the side(see picture) to make them go up or down. It's quite unique! The chair is still all in tack and sturdy with no breaks(besides small round decorative knob on top of scroll pediment) The wood does show age with scrapes and marks here and there which is expected for almost 150 years old. You can restore this item or leave as is, if you like that original antique look. The material on the chair is a red/burgundy with black, brown and a mustard color. The material is not in perfect condition but it's still all together.beautiful(see pictures) This chair folds up and reopens with no problem. This piece of antique furniture is stunning and I'm having a hard time parting from it. I must start letting some of my items go due to over collecting: LOL! There is still an original paper label under the seat(see picture) reading. E.W. Vail, Patentee and Manufactured, Worcester, Mass. Petented Oct 6, 1868, reissued Dec 2, 1873.
