This beautiful table features an ogee bevel edge, round corner top, and is all tiger sawn oak with a large dove tail drawer in the front. It has cabriole legs that come down into a bottom shelf support and terminate in a detail toenail claw foot. The desk is 38 inches wide, 26 inches deep and 29.75 inches high. The bottom shelf is 9 inches high. The size of the large drawer is 31 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep.

We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. It is a very unusual item showing two men carved in relief of the bench with the left-hand man smoking a pipe and the right-hand man smoking a cigar. They are carved in detail. It has a flared multi-turn leg base with multi-turn cross spindle cross stretchers that join the base together. The back has a couple of lamination seams that came be seen in the photos which have nothing to do with the structure, but I wanted you to be aware of it. It has a big carved lion faces laughing with fangs and carving on the breadboard bevel edge slant lid. The drawer fronts are block front and have real true clam shell carving. This was no doubt a custom made piece with rope molding going down each post, rope braided along the base and detail ball and claw feet.
