This bench ... moreis a rare find with a lovely scalloped top. Curved arms and straight legs. It almost looks like a decorative church pew. It has tons of character and that true folk art flavor. The paint appears to be all original and has nicks, edge wear, paint loss, chips and scrapes on it as you'd expect from and item of this age. It has wooden pegs on the tops of the curved arms as you can see in the second to the last picture. The underneath has been braced with four extra and later pieces of wood. This was likely done to brace the crack in the seat of the bench. It's a through crack and you can see it both in the top and underneath the bench in the pictures. The bench is solid and sturdy. The last picture is looking straight down at the seat of the bench. As you can see there are what appear to be cut nails and newer. Round nails. There is a mixture throughout the bench and it appears someone put newer nails in it to strengthen it up. The bench is a great size measuring 74.5" long including the curved ends on both sides x 17.5" deep x 18" high at the seat and 37.5" high at the top of the back. Note: Due to the size of this cabinet this will have to be a local pick up only. We will work with your shipper and can hold it for you if you decide to ship. We can recommend Plycon as they have several offices around the country and have been very competitive on other shipments. We always recommend that you insure your shipments. Condition: Used Location: Perkasie, United States American Black Painted Bowback Antique Windsor Chair Early 19th Century Item# 100008WPN02 This is a fine American Black Painted Antique Windsor Bowback ... moreSide Chair. Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century. It has a wonderful black paint over another layer of reddish orange, probably also a layer over the original and currently unknown color. The back of the chair has a graceful bow, carefully grasping each through-tenoned splinted spindle before diving through the single solid plank pine seat. The seat is heavily patinated, with deep grooves and wear from decades of active use. The entire chair sits over four splayed bamboo carved legs, all four of which tenon through the plank seat before being secured with a splint, each held firmly and perfectly in place with a bamboo carved H-stretcher. This is a most charming chair, in excellent condition with wonderful patina and character throughout- the early painted surfaces are probably not the original layers, but seem to protect earlier layers beneath, these quite possibly the earliest surfaces. A wonderful find for those that are passionate about fine windsor chairs. Measurements: Seat 13.5" wide x 14.5" deep. The seat sits 16" from the ground and the back of the seat is 33.5" high. Condition Report: Paint worn throughout. Probably not the original surfaces. Deep groves and losses in the plank seat. Chips and abrasions throughout. One nail, appears to be modern, on side of chair stabalizing hoop back. Plank seat split with a butterfly joint securing seat from beneath and two screws locking it in place. Chair is structurally strong, but could possibly be too weak to use functionally as a chair. Please review the images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.
