STUNNING Antique Sterling JAPANESE MEIJI Period MINIATURE Teapot KETTLE On STAND
A truly magnificent miniature Japanese Meiji period(circa 1870-1910) miniature sterling silver teapot/kettle on stand with burner. Exceptional detail and form to this piece. The kettle has a wonderful organic faux bamboo handle on working hinges. And this decoration is echoed on the kettle's lid, as the lid features a small piece of bamboo as the handle. The main body of the kettle has a deeply-engraved cherry blossom and branch pattern throughout, as well as a simple engraved decoration on the underside of the spout. The kettle also has four small compressed ball feet so that it can stand on its own. The base is also in a faux bamboo pattern and has a removeable burner which sits in a ring at the base's center. This is truly a miniature working kettle on stand- the spout is hollow and pours. The lid is removable, the handle is hinged, ... moreand the kettle can be tipped on its stand as a normal full-size example would. The base has an actual removable burner with well for holding fluid. All in all, this is a truly remarkable miniature item. Not sure if it was intended for use by a wealthy child, for use as a doll accessory, for use as a display piece for a silversmith, or simply an expensive novelty for the discerning collector. Regardless, it is a fantastic display piece and you won't find a nicer example. It is completely unmarked. But we have acid tested it and it is guaranteed to be sterling silver. Condition is excellent, as pictured. The kettle on its own stands about 2" in height and is approximately 1.5" wide. The stand is approximately 2"x2"x2" This piece has a minimal opening bid and no reserve. If any questions. Feel free to e-mail. View our other on-line auctions and save considerably on shipping with multiple purchases, as we can often send additional items at little or no extra cost. The interior of the tetsubin contains significant amounts of rust which can be removed through cleansing and boiling the tea kettle often. Age: Meiji Period. Size: Height: 6.5" Diameter: 7"
