VINTAGE Old JAPANESE Sterling Silver TEAPOT Hallmarks MAKERS MARK Carnelian knob
Beautiful vintage silver Japanese teapot from an estate. There are artist or makers marks on the underside of the lid and hallmarks on the base of the kettle. There are several minor dents to the lower/mid body of the pot. Nothing terrible or unsightly. I have not polished this or cleaned it in any way. It has a nice even patina. Beautiful texture to the surface of the silver! The nob on the top is made of carnelian/agate stone. It is not damaged. It wobbles a bit if you move it but is strong. The handle shows use but is still in very good shape. It's lighter colored towards where it is attached(likely from being cleaned with something damp when it was used) Again I have not oiled it or done anything to make it look better.I have left this just as I found it so you can choose to do that yourself or not. This measures approx 7" across ... moreand 5 3/4" high(or 18 cm x 15 cm high) It weighs 13.1 regular oz. Overall very nice shape a g orgeous teapot! Japanese Sterling Silver Iris Kettle & Stand Teapot Meiji PERFECT
FINEST MEIJI JAPANESE STERLING SILVER IRIS ALONG GENTLE STREAM KETTLE& STAND; BRILLIANT HAMMERED SURFACE; EXCELLENT CONDITION We are quite pleased to offer this rare. Meiji iris along gentle stream kettle on stand. Meiji period Japanese silver was the finest the world has ever known. Much was crafted by former Samurai. Imperial decree had outlawed their warrior culture. Forcing the Samurai to channel centuries old sword making skills into breathtaking presentation and household silver. The Meiji silver artisans were so highly regarded that Tiffany. Gorham and the leading British firms sent their staff to Japan to"learn" steal) the secrets of the Samurai. This stunning Meiji kettle in classic ovoid shape. Adorned with brilliantly hand carved iris rising from gentle water. The delicate flowers carved in exceptionally high relief ... morefrom surface. Set above gentle. Winding stream. The slow moving water represented by a series of softly engraved wavy lines. A design technique specific to Japanese arts. Not seen in any other culture's silver. Well cast and fit gently domed cover. Topped with raised iris flower finial. The single flower in early bloom. Atop a larger recessed floral display. Overhead swing handle. Rising from delicate raised flower terminal. All over hand hammered background. The thousands of individually applied punch marks shimmer brilliantly in the natural light. The kettle atop matching three shaped foot stand. Conforming iris along stream on hand hammered surface decoration. Never monogrammed. The set was likely signed under base of burner. The burner now gone. We guarantee without question solid sterling silver and of the age and region listed. This Meiji iris along gentle stream kettle on stand is 12 3/4 inches tall and 7 inches spout to edge. Exceptionally thick. Heavy guage sterling silver construction weighs 31 1/2(standard) ounces. In excellent condition. If not pristine. Interior of kettle free of discoloration as if little used. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Stan
