Old Japanese Arare Kama Cast Iron Double Hibachi w/Tetsubin & Chagama
I have done a lot of research on this unusual Japanese cast iron hibachi. But have not been able to find anything remotely similar in books or online. It has seen a lot of use as evidenced by the lime in the chagama and the soot under the hibachi. The only parts I cleaned were the lids, because there was years of accumulated crud on them. The lid on the chagama appears to be bronze. The projections that hold the rings by which it is lifted are in the shape of elephants' heads. The tetsubin and chagama are both in the hob-nailed Arare style. I could not find a signature on any of the parts but there is an old paper label still attached to the front which is now illegible. The hibachi measures 7-1/2 inches wide. 7-1/4" deep and 3-1/4 inches high approximately, including the two removable parts that support the pots. The tetsubin from ... morebase to the top of the handle is 9-1/2 inches high approximately and holds 4 pints when filled completely to the rim. There is no damage to any of the parts that I can see. It's been sitting around for years and only needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Was this a portable tea-making set up for using outdoors? I would be grateful if someone could tell me a little more about it. Being cast iron. It is very heavy so I will send it UPS unless you request another means of shipping.
