I am not sure what the full story is on this excellent iron teapot and stand. But I do know that I don't drink much tea and I will have to let this one go. I am offering it for sale here on eBay for you. It comes with an iron trivet stand that sits on 3 feet and measures 5-1/4" in diameter. The pot has hobnail bumps on it and is finely crafted with a bale handle. The lid fits snug with a vent hole in the top and an easy to grab finial handle. The pot measures about 5-1/2" in diameter and 3" tall plus the lid and handle, so overall with the handle up it measures 5-3/4" tall. The pot and stand combined weigh just under 4 pounds. Antique Japanese TETSUBIN Cast Iron Floral Tea Kettle Urushi Top Chagama Footed Aloha A TESTSUBIN is a cast iron tea kettle having a pouring spout and ... morea handle across the top which is used for boiling water to make tea. This tetsubin was purchased at an estate sale of a collector of Japanese antiques and one who collected many testsubin. The design of this tetsubin is a floral design molded into the cast iron. It comes with a black urushi lacqured cover with gold handpainted blossoms and pine branches. The cast iron handle also has a painted design on it. This testsubin is from the Meiji so is about 100 years old. It is in quite good condition for its age. There is some rust on the inside which is common for a tea pot that has been used. It stands on 3 feet and is 4 1/2" high from the cover and 9" high from the handle. It is 22" around. Upon further research I have found that these testubin with a laquered top were used to warm up sake. They put the sake bottle into the warm water in the testsubin to warm it up. Nothing better tha warm sake. Thank you checking out my auctions and store. I do combine postage just as long as the purchases will fit into on box.
