The teapot stands approximately 2& 1/4" high to the top of the ruffled rim; or about 3" high to the top of the lid handle. The width is approximately 4" to spout. Beautiful Old Japanese Banko Elephant Art Pottery Teapot Beautiful old Japanese Banko Elephant art pottery teapot. The elephant teapot is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs. It has a couple of very small minimal losses of orange paint on one side of the elephant's blanket and a few small stain or discoloration spots as seen in the photographs. The teapot is 7 1/4" from the spout to the back of the elephant and 5 5/8" to the top of the lid. It is from the very early part of the 1900's. A wonderful addition to a collection.

Antique Japanese Teapot Figural Quail Enamel Banko Ware Rare Fly Finial Japan
Extremely Rare Enamel and stunning one of a kind Japanese Banko Ware Figural Teapot with vine handle. This teapot has the truly unique Fly as the finial for the lid of the pot. This Quail looks to be in excellent condition. I only see a slight indentation(see beak on 1st and 4th picture) on the top of the beak from the left side that blends so well you can't really see it. It does not feel sharp to your hand and almost looks like it was made that way. The Quail is a light brown color on his wings and top of his head. The lower part of the body is a crème color. The first picture shows how gorgeous the enamel floral painting of a white lily and 2 red unopened buds. The artist also added some pretty green leaves and painted the leaves rising up from the back and folding over either side of the teapot opening. The leaves rise up so ... morethat the vine holder could be attached on both sides. The opposite side also has 2 vines with a red and white unopened bud on each end. This is stamped Japan on the bottom and has 3 soft pads to protect it against scratches. The height is approximately 4 1/2" high and 6" long from the back to the front. The very circular bottom with the pads is about 3" wide. The vine is note wrapped all the way around with the smaller vine- see picture. Antique Japanese Banko-Yaki Blue Kyogen Mask Teapot with Rattan Handle
This antique Kyogen Mask teapot is decorated with the Japanese theatre masks Hyottoko. Okame, Tengu, and Kabuki. Although many are unsigned, these kyogen teapots were produced in the second half of the 19th century at the Banku-Yaki pottery in the province of Ise(today Mie Prefecture) It is mostly white and is decorated with light blue border patterns making it known as a"Blue Kyogen Theatre Mask Teapot. On the bottom can be found the thumb prints of the potter. The teapot is in excellent condition except for a minor chip on the spout and on the lid. The rattan handle appears to be original but partially unwrapped and should be restored. It measures 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" high.

Lovely old Japanese Banko Ware Elephant Teapot with a Rattan Handle. It belonged to my mother who I believe received it from her mother. Unfortunately it has suffered some damage but looks great in a china cabinet. There is crazing. Two chips on one side of the lid, a very tiny chip in the rim of the mouth and another, also very tiny at the base of the spout. There are no cracks. Please see my many photos. The teapot measures from base to handle is 6 ½ inches. From base to the top of the handle is 9 ½ inches. The length is approximately 8 ¼ inches and the width is 4 ¾ inches. Offered for sale is this Japanese BANKO WARE figural teapot. It is a chubby little elephant with a fancy blanket and a tiny rider. This piece measures 6 1/2" high to the top of the original rattan handle and about 6" long(including trunk) The bottom has the impressed"Made in Japan" mark with a character letter. I'm definitely not an expert but believe it dates to the 1930s/40s. The teapot is in very good estate condition. The only flaw I find is a tiny flake on the inner edge of the spout-not noticeable but see enlarged photo to evaluate. This whimsical teapot should be welcome in any collection! This is a Japanese pottery Banko teapot in form of an elephant with its rider. The hard& greyish clay is left blank/bisque for the whole elephant's body. There is minor chipping on the lid and a crack near the spout(see photos) The teapot has dark brown glazing on the top 1/3 and on the interior of the teapot. And a natural, unglazed clay on the bottom outside 2/3. The teapot is marked on the end of the handle and also has a red stamp on the side of the pot. There is an additional black number"8" on the bottom. Japanese Cloisonne on Banko teapot unique but as is
Banko brown ware teapot covered in cloisonne! I have never seen another one in 35 years of collecting Japanese cloisonne. It is far from perfect. But displays well, if you want a one-of-a-kind study piece for your cloisonne collection or your Banko collection. All pieces are here. This is a hand formed Banko teapot with handle at right angle to spout. The end of the handle has a loop. This was done just to show off the potter's skill. Handle is hollow, and has been broken and glued back on. Glue looks old. Also the lid has been glued back together. The spinning finial still works. Spinning finials were also done c. 1890's to 1900 to show off the potter's skill. What is peculiar and unique here is that wires have been applied and enamel has been applied, as in the first steps in making cloisonne. The enamel is not filled up to ... morecapacity as in a finished piece. Decoration on one side is floral as we see in cloisonne on pottery from 1890's. The rest of it is abstract, random shapes, as if being purely experimental. The wire work is not the greatest, but then again, who has seen another one? Possibly experimental, possibly unique. I had this in my Japanese cloisonne collection as an item of interest. Certainly is! Even though it is"as is" it can still be appreciated, handled and displayed well. Signed, 1900 Each side has a different colorful and intricate moriage and hand-painted scene of red crowned cranes flying and standing among flowers. Includes woven wood handle and five-sided ceramic strainer and top with unusual wrapped clay spout. Gold trim around the top, on the lid and on the spout. Each side is 3 1/2" wide at the widest part. Each side at the top is 2” wide. 5” tall including the top. Overall with handle 8” tall. Overall approximately 6” wide including spout Pre-owned and shows signs of use. But is in good condition. The strainer and interior of the pot is stained, there is one chip on the top of one of the panels, and some of the gold trim has worn off.

The teapot is signed on the bottom. The sugar bowl is signed on the side near the bottom of handle. The lid of the sugar bowl is badly damaged and repaired- broken in several pieces and glued back together(see photo) The top edge of the sugar bowl also has an apprroximately 3/8" chip. One lower point or hump of the teapot has a few small abrasion marks and some evident hairline cracks coming off them. The spout has a couple tiny chips. This is a wonderful small vintage pottery teapot. It looks to be Banko Ware. But I found no markings on it. The material is very thin clay and it has a very pretty mosaic design. There is no cover. It measures only 1-3/4" tall by 3-1/2" wide from end of spout to tip of handle. It came out of a wonderful estate in Connecticut where I acquired many fine antiques and such. The teapot is in great condition the lid has a very well done chip restoration shown in two of my close up shots.It is a larger size than most measuring 5 1/2" high to the tip of the nose on the lid and 5 1/2" from tip of spout to edge of handle and 4 1/4" wide at base.
