Beautiful vintage HADSON Dragon ware tea set plus extras. I have a pitcher in unused condition with five cups. A separate but also similar HADSON tea cup and saucer(this one has an even more detailed paintings) and a tiny miniature HADSON tea cup and saucer, like doll size. All are in very good pre owned vintage condition, with only about half a dozen nics or flaws to the COLORING, NOT the ceramic! Very important difference there. The ceramic in unchipped and has no breaks. The black colored backround to this set- is very delicate, and would be expected to have some signs of age to it. It has a fabulous raised beaded dragon design with a dragon's mouth on both the spout and the teapot and creamer lids. The base color is white with a beaded brown and gold dragon design. The accenting is a gorgeous deep redish brown. The set has 23 pices which include the lids as well. It includes a teapot. Large covered cream pitcher, large covered sugar bowl, 6 luncheon plates, 6 saucers ... moreand 5 Geisha lithopane cups. The plates measure 7 7/8" wide3, the saucers measure 5 1/2" The cups measure 3 7/8" wide and 2 1/8" tall. The cups have the beaded moriage design on the handle and a picture of a Geisha woman in the bottom of the cup which can be seen when held up to the light. The plates, cups and saucers have wonderful gold dragons with green and redish brown accent. The large cream pitcher measures about 6 1/2" tall to the top of the dragon's head and about 7 1/2" wide from the dragon's mouth spount to the moriage handle. The sugar bowl measures about 6 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" wide handle to handle. The teapot measures about 8 1/2" tall and about 10" wide from dragon's mouth to handle edge. They are marked with a printed Japan stamp on the base. I believe these date to the mid 1940's. The set is in very good condition. I see no chips or cracks. There is some wear on the gold on the cup rims but thisis quite minor. This is a wonderful old Moriage Dragonware set. Satsuma earthenware porcelain incomplete tea set from the Meiji period. 19th century. Consists of the teapot with no lid, two tea cups, one of which has a fine line crack, and a lovely cream pitcher. These were decorated with thick enamels and gold leaf, and depict themes from Japanese legends and myths. The crackles seen are an intentional and important part of antique Satsuma ware, enhancing the article and promoting a play of light on the surface, subject to admiration by the tea drinker. The Meiji period lasted from 1868 through 1912. This set is hand decorated with dragons and figures of immortals dressed in robes with gilded detail; the faces are striking in their expressions. Old 18 piece Japanese tea set has been in the family for over 60 years. But don't know how old it is originally. A researched guess would be 1920s-1930s, but not really sure of date. I haven't been able to find another with the other man. Bottoms inside cups shows an Asian man and woman. This is a beautiful vintage hand painted Japanese Nippon porcelain moriage Dragonware tea set. It has the teapot. Sugar bowl and creamer. The set is in very nice condition with no cracks or crazing but the teapot does have a small chip on the spout. There are some spots where the dark paint is wore off a bit or it may be manufacturing flaws. There is also what looks like a manufacturing flaw to me. It is a dig in the porcelain right below the hole in the lid of the teapot. It is not a chip that was done after manufacture as it is glazed over. See last picture. The teapot is 6-1/4" high to the top of knob on lid and is 7-1/2" from end of spout to end of handle. The base is 5-1/8" in diameter. This nice Dragon Ware set came from my husband’s grandparent’s estate. Admittedly I know little about its history/brand. Except for similar items I’ve seen described, so I will borrow from their description. PLEASE let the photos speak for themselves. It looks to be mid-century with a Satsuma theme. I believe it to be hand painted as others I’ve seen although resemble the pattern. Are distinct in each detail. Such is the case with this nice set. It includes a lovely tea(or coffee) pot, covered sugar, creamer and four demitasse cups. Its overall color pattern is muted browns/rusts with gold highlights. This is a really nice oriental tea service. It is the red dragon design with beautiful red and gold hand painting on the teapot. Large sugar and creamer. It is for a service of four but is missing one teacup. There are 3 cups, 4 saucers, 4 dessert plates, cream and sugar and teapot. This is also a lithopane tea cup design in that held to a light a beautiful geisha face is found in the bottom of the cup. There are no makers parks on any piece but still very nice. No chips, cracks or flaws on any of the hand painted pieces. The pattern on the set is called Immortals. There are 3 faces on the teapot creamer and sugar. Pictured is Kannon the Goddess of Mercy and Immortals surrounding her. The circle with a cross going thru the body of the Goddess. Is the mark of the Shimazu Family Crest. The delicate teacups feature beautiful lithopanes in the bottoms so that when tipped to the light one sees a Geisha(see last photo- but my camera did not cooperate to take a clear picture sorry) This is a beautiful set in person and is without damage except for very minor edge wear consistent with age. No scratches, nicks or chips. plate are 7' in diameter, the teapot is about 6' tall, the only thing I see as far as imperfections go, on a hand painted piece that is, is on the teapot handle there is one raised paint drop, that isn't there, pretty minor, beautiful set, obviously not complete. shipping is $14.50. add $4.50 If on the west coast.
