This set is in very good condition, especially considering its age. It was given to a family member in 1922. She was told that it was 75 years old at ... morethat time. The painting is crisp and colorful and I don’t see any chips or cracks or signs of repair. I suspect the sugar bowl once had a lid. Please look closely at the photos as part of the description. Museum Quality Japanese Glaze Seven Piece Tea Ceremony Set , Early Meiji Period
This beautiful Satsuma teaset is signed on sides of each bowl and the teapot. Clearly has the delicate finely crackled glaze that Satsuma pottery is famous for. It could possibly be Edo period, the decoration is naturistic prunus. With blue branches and reddish flowers with green centers. I have indicated that it is early Meiji period to avoid sharp deliniation between the two periods. The bottom of the foot of the pot and bowls are unglazed. The overall body glaze has a slightly pinkish gold cast. It has been used for tea, there is some very slight staining to the interior that only serves to accentuate the very fine crackle in the glaze. This tea set would have been created for the tea ceremony. Posted with the On Jan-08-13 at 19:44:10 PST. Seller added the following information:

The Meiji period lasted from 1868 through 1912. This set is hand decorated with dragons and figures of immortals dressed in robes with gilded detail; the faces are striking in their expressions. There is also a gold circle with a cross, the Shimazu mon, or family crest of the clan that ruled Satsuma Han. The set is also marked on the bottom with an old ... moreSatsuma mark. This incomplete set is being sold as it was found, its age is part of its beauty.

Antique Japanese Shuzan Maybe Porcelain Tea Set One ofa Kind Story Meiji Period?
Bob Post Antiques One of a Kind Japanese Tea Set 35 Pieces For your consideration: This lovely antique Japanese Tea Set comes with a unique story. Acquired through a friend. This set is Unique offering the buyer a chance at a set no other will have. The story goes like this. This Set was owned by a woman named Zelma McCafferty. She lived in Madison co. Indiana. The Tea Set came from Japan after her wedding. It was an anniversary gift. The set is believed to have come from Japan from a close family friend. It was painted especially for Zelma and is marked ZM. There was no duplicate because there was only 1 Zelma McCafferty. This is all supposed to have happened in in the early 1900's. Zelma's really old son passed away a few years ago and had no immediate family. Therefore the set was then owned by Zelma's son's elderly lady ... morefriend who didn't need it. So. Now it can be yours. That's the story. They believed it was Taizan. I am not so sure. I believe it is Shuzan from the mark and the age. These geisha's also seem consistant. Either way, lovely very old and in very very good condition. Included in thie Japanese Handpainted Porceliain Lot: Teapot 4.5 inches tall. 8 inches spout to handle tips. No chips, cracks. Sugar Bowl 4 inches tall. 6 inches handle edge to handle edge. No chips, cracks. Cream Pitcher 3.25 inches tall. 5 inches handle to spout. 10 cups and 10 saucers The cups are 4 inches across. I find them interesting. The porcelain is not smooth in the bottom. It appears to be a raised porcelain mark of some sort. Saucers are 5.5 inches across. 9 sets are in very very good condition. There is 1 set that has a small chip in the gold on the rim of the cup and plate. 10 Cookie Plates 6 Inches All very very nice! 2 Serving Plates 8.5 Inches across all in very very good condition! This set is old! It's by all accounts in very very good condition. There are some light scratches that I see. I would call it very light paint loss. It by no means compromises the integrity of this set! It&

Outstanding Fine Antique Japanese Kutani Eggshell Porcelain Tea Set Meiji Period
An exceptionally fine antique Japanese Kutani eggshell porcelain tea set. Comprising a teapot and lid, sugar bowl and lid, 7 cups and 8 saucers. Antique Black Tea Set, Black Matte w/Gold Trim, Hand Paint Flowers, Meiji Period
Very old and very rare tea set. I am almost positive the set is Japanese. However. Since I am unable to translate the red marking on the bottom, this is my assumption. I have showed this set to several antique dealers, but none was able to translate the markings either. What I was told by two separate antique dealers: Very rare tea set. Antique. The dull finish of the black paint is called a"Black Matte" finish. No"made in" marking indicates that this set was made prior to 1920. Possibly from the Meiji Period. Only two lids are with this set. No cracks or chips. Some crazing is noted. See well detailed photos. You will see what good shape this set is in. I have had this set for about a year now. Trying to gather information on it before putting it up for auction. However, I can no longer hang onto it, even though it is ... morebeautiful and rare. I pack& ship with care and quickly. Thanks for shopping.
