The page is stilll very pliable. Not brittle, basically as seen in the pics. There are a couple of nicks on the edge, light damp staining in the margin and some darkening around the edges, otherwise it is very clean with strong color, see the pic for a better idea of the condition. This map of St. Louis is copyrighted 1906. It is from a 1907 Rand McNally Enlarged Business Atlas. McNally updated their city maps only when major changes were required. It measures 28 X 20 inches. Would look fantastic framed under glass. Shadows seen are my scanner. Not the map. According to worldcat.org. There are only two editions of this atlas in the major reference collections, making the maps from this atlas quite dear, fantastic to behold, and a smart investment. Once sold it is doubtful if we will ever have another one in stock. We will ship this map carefully rolled in kraft paper inside a cut pvc tube to prevent any damage. VINTAGE ST. LOUIS. MISSOURI STREET GUIDE Shows St. Louis City and St. Louis County Estimated age: 50. 60 or even older. This street guide was printed before AT&T changed phone numbers from 2 Letters-5 numbers as in FLanders 5-4307 to 7 Numbers. And zip codes started being used by the Post Office in 1963. This book still has two digits for the City Postal Code. And Highway 270 is not shown; neither is Highway 44. Highway 60-40 ends before downtown Saint Louis and Highway 141 is still two lanes. Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is shown(that's where the Arch is) and it shows where the Steamer Admiral was on the Mississippi Riverfront. The Eads Bridge is shown and so is the Veterans Bridge in downtown St. Louis. So I think this map is from the 50's or 60's. Sure wish there was a date in it. GENEALOGY RESEARCH Maybe you want ... moreto find the street where your family lived before the big highways cut up the neighborhoods in St. Louis and St. Louis County. Or maybe your family had a farm where there is a big subdivision now. This will be a great item for your research. I should donate it to the St. Louis County Library but they probably have one already. My pictures will give you an idea of the contents of the street guide. There is an index in the back so you can find the page your street is on. And there is a Key to Maps in the front so you can find the general area that you want. Oh. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and foldlines of the maps may also have tears.
