Overprinted in red to show a profusion of railroad lines then in existence across the state. A monumental early 20th century map of this state. With hundreds of place names not typically found on smaller maps and a level of detail approaching wall map. In VG+ clean fine condition. Will look very nice for display. Once framed a huge map. Not to be confused with the much more common small quarto format issues of similar titled maps. This map is close to wall sized if framed. Sheet size measures c. 28" W x 20 1/2" H. Engraved area c. 26 5/8" W x 18 1/2" H. 7403] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the ... morephotos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. 1900's RAILROAD OAK CABINET full of STATE RAILROAD LINES
This is a very rare map cabinet. WITH MAPS Each drawer has a detailed map of each state with exception of Alaska and Hawaii. I have not found a date.But there are no airports. LasVegas is not shown as a city. The case is paneled oak even panels in back. It measures 40" tall. It is 28" deep and 28" wide. I am guessing the rand McNally maps were from the early 1900's and were Used in RR depot, to track trains thruout the United States. As an example, the state of missouri map has pin marks of cities of RR lines. I have spent many hours looking thru the States- to see the RR lines and the cities and counties they went thru. The large maps are very detailed. Each map in drawer measures 26"x26" Then the thin drawer, 1 and 1/2" thick, is pulled out of case and turned over to see another state map of RR lines, listed ... morethru that state. Some states have more RR lines listed. I am aware of one or possibly two state maps missing and will go thru and check. I have also seen these RR state maps listed on eBay. There are 26 pull out drawers that have double sides and easily slide in wooden slots. There are a few little knobs missing, but can easily be found In hardware books for vintage crafters. I have seen only 3 of these cabinets in the last 25 years that were priced in the area of $3200- 3500. One lately that was similar to mine, with NO maps, for $1900. I believe the maps add value to the cabinet. The cabinet is easy to disassemble,as it has three sections that'lock' or fit together, and then drawers slide in. The solid wooden top fits on at finish.
