Antique 80 Year Old Red Maple Wood Twin Bed Frame
This is a terrific old antique red Maple wooden twin bed frame in very good condition. This was my bed growing up as a child and my mother's bed before that. The finials alone are an ornate pineapple design rarely seen anymore. The frame is stamped Red Maple on the back side of the headboard. There is some fading to the varnished finish on the back of the headboard. And a couple sides of one of the feet have fallen off and have been missing for years. There is no other damage to the wood and the frame is in excellent condition for its age. This item is LOCAL PICK UP ONLY! I repeat, this will NOT be shipped. Interesting and beautiful wooden bed. Unsure of age. To my eye seems like turn of the century but I have no provenance so I do not want to misrepresent. Internal measurement of 44x72. That seems like the equivalent of a twin which is 39x75. Holds together with very long bolts which look hand-forged. May need additional fixing once assembled since the bolts seem loose. Easily tighten up the frame with the addition of 4 corner brackets. Could also make a wonderful headboard/footboard if affixed to a modern bed frame. Please ask for additional photos or measurements. Someone has attached heavy wire with a clasp to secure the bed even more when it is together in two places under the slats. The footboard posts have the horizontal piece of wood that attaches them. If you look in the photos carefully you can see a fraction of an inch has detached and the wood pegs are visible. They need a rubber mallet to put them back in place. Keep in mind Antique beds aren't meant to be used for anything but sleeping. Not used for aerobics or as a trampoline as I know young children may be tempted to do. Otherwise I feel it should be secure. If I didn't need the posts in the back of my daybed to help me turn over at night. I'd bring it in and use it myself. It is time to downsize so up for auction this week is a antique wooden twin bed frame. This bed when assembled is very pretty- great for a little girls room! With it's ornate headboard and foot board is is a classic.The side rails are also included to assemble the bed. There is some minor separation of the wood veneer that needs to be re-glued and a white mark that should remove easily if your going to refinish it. It must have leaned against something white?
