The new year began well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and a family collection of lace from a local estate. I also acquired lots of new stock from two wonderful antique textile auctions- one in SW England and another in Yorkshire. The silk is backed with calico, and the silk thread embroidered though both layers, so this is in good condition ... morefor its age, with a little water staining to the top right, and some fading to the bottom left hand side. This was so hard to photograph! It measures 68cm x 57cm. and there is an edging of about 1,5cm where it was once folded over a stiff backing for framing. No damage to the silk that I can spot- one tiny tear outside the main field. A really interesting early embroidered silk map! More photographs below. The level of detail to this map is really stunning. And gives it historical value. Includes section of Israel& Syria with all of Lebanon. The back is a large section of Saudi Arabia. Was made as an"escape" map for British troops. Restricted" is printed in many areas on the map face. Small smudge on the Beirut side to the large of the Mediterranean, and some fraying around the edges. Overall, a beautiful map of important areas. Would look great in a frame.

WWII RAAF Australian silk map of Halmahera
This is a nice well used Royal Australian Air Force map of the island of Halmahera. It appears to be silk and is quite large. It has rough cut edges and a couple of small tears along the seam where it has been folded since WWII. This map also shows many islands like Morotai and Western New Guinea. Overall it reatins nice coloring and is quite legible. It displays very nicely and I believe it is quite rare. A great addition to any WWII South Pacific exhibit! ww2 silk map 508th airborne paratrooper 82 Germany France Belgium market garden
Family did not want the veterans service realted items. I will be listing some on ebay at this time. I have sold some item few weeks ago and will sell the remaining items during next week. Captain Herman Frick was in Europe and part of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was a Captain and received Bronze Star for meritorious service around Sept 17 1944 in Belgium. He was part of operation market garden. He was not involved with battle of the bulge. At that time he was injured and recovering but did finally return to unit after the battle of the bulge. This MAP was from his box of military items he returned with. It looks in fantastic condition. Not stained just has creases(see photos)

Signed by 4 members of 508th. I google few of the names and they were all part of battle of the Bulge and 508th parachute infantry. This is from Captain herman fricks estate. map is aprox 28 1/2 by 29 inch. Family did not want the veterans service related items. These belonged to Captain Herman Frick of the 508th airborne unit. I will be listing some items on ebay at this time. I have sold some items last few weeks and will sell the remaining items during next week or two. Captain Herman Frick was in Europe and part of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was a translator and intelligence officer. He was also awarded the Bronze Star(named) for meritorious service around Sept 17 1944 in Belgium. He was part of operation market garden. He was not involved with battle of the bulge. At that time he was injured and recovering at aid station ... morebut did finally return to unit right after the battle of the bulge.son relayed this story about the injury)You can google his name and find him. This is a 1947 Restricted"cloth chart" map of Alaska. It measures about 36 1/4" square and folds up to 4" x 5 1/2" to fit into a pocket. Outer seams darkened. Otherwise very good unused condition. The Army Air Force(AAF) through the efforts of their Aeronautical Chart Service produced a series of the cloth maps on printed on rayon. Here are maps#30 and 31 in the USAAF cloth map series. it is a two sided map of North and South Burma. This map is in great condition showing only some yellowing from age and storage as well as some wrinkles that could be steamed out. It is quite colorful and depicts the terrain that the"Hump" pilots would have flown during WWII. I will use USPS priority mail for domestic and international shipments.
