This is a beautiful 3 5/8" 9.2cm) tall bronze Buddha statue. An appraiser stated that this was produced in the 18th century in the Thailand region. He explained that the clay and dirt on the piece was from when this piece was buried long ago. Fortunately. It was recovered, and now it has a beautiful patina. Antique Siamese Siam Thai Bronze Statue Rooster Cock King Naresuan Warrior 1800
This is an interesting 7" tall(17.8cm) x 4" wide(10.16cm) antique bronze statue. It dates from 1810-1820 in what is now Thailand. A warrior is riding atop a rooster with his sword drawn. The lotus in the warrior's hand-representing purity-is a symbolic pairing with the rooster. Which in legend drives evil away. I don't know who the warrior is. Perhaps it is King Naresuan? The statue is cast out of bronze, and it is very clear that someone very experienced did the casting. Bronze is difficult to cast anyway, but especially when the metal is thin(as it is on the base) When casting, any"flaws" were considered the will of the gods. There are a few holes in the statue from age and casting, but otherwise the statue is in good condition. Feel free to message me with questions. But I don't know the original date of creation. It is in wonderful condition. Bronze with ornate detail on a 3 level base. It measures 55 3/4" from the base to the top of the headpiece point. About 22 1/2" at the widest point where foot comes out. Base is about 5 1/4" tall. He has glass eyes and the front of his robe and headdress are set with several green and red stones. The large center stone in the chest plate appears to be a precious stone like a ruby. A second round jewel is located on the loin cloth. The overall height of the statue is 17 inches. The figure measures 13 5/8 inches tall and the base is 7 inches square. Antique bronze Thai Buddha figure was covered with Gold Guilt. A little remains though most has been rubbed off over around a 100 years. Now a antique patina covers much of the antique Buddha figure, and the face has turned black from age. This bronze Buddha figure most likely part of a number of Buddha figures in temple maybe a home temple. If you look at the bottom you can see it was removed from some mounting. I have had this looked at by several dealers in oriental antiques who have told me it is from Siam, now Thialand and very old! You are bidding on a beautiful antique Siam temple protector statue. Most likely from a wealthy Siam Merchants home. Finely cast in bronze with a subtle antique patina. Standing upon four feet with magnificent detail in the flaming mane. In Siam Mythology the lion symbolized royalty. Strength, and courage. Singha are traditionally represented as royal animals guarding important sites and temples all over Thailand today. We have also seen them as protector amulets. This piece appears to be quite old.
