This Buddha measures 5 3/4" x 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" It is in very nice condition. The Buddha weighs 1.06Kgs. Wat Changhai is situated at Naparu. Koppo District, Pattani, Thailand. It was built over three hundred years ago. It was also the place where Luang Phor Thuad gained Enlightenment. Luang Phor Thuad(LP Thuad) is a legendary monk of times past. In our generation. He is famous for amulets made in his image which many believe hold great protective powers which have been proven to be effective time and again. On 24th April 1963 AD(1st day of Chinese 4th Moon) The abbot of Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram, Penang, the Venerable Phra Kru Prasit Chaiya Mongol(Phor Than Daeng) invited the learned monks from Bangkok to Penang to officiate the opening ceremony of the holy image of LP Thuad. At about 6 pm. Luang Phor Thuad suddenly revealed his ... morepresence in the body of a monk, presumely while the monk was in meditation. Impressed, many devotees asked for guidance and advice. Out of curiosity. One devotee inquired about his life history, Luang Poo Thuad kindly revealed the following details: He was born in Singora. Thailand. His ancestors had migrated from FuJian Province in China many centuries ago due to the tumultuous situation then in China. They settled down in Singora, Thailand. His parents were also born in Singora, Thailand. His mother was of Chinese origin. His parents were very poor but they were faithful devotees of the Buddha. They stayed in a hut near an old temple, Wat Khokosan and were employed by a rich family as farmers. Luang Phor Thuat was born at Ban Suan Chan. This is a fine pair of either blackened brass or bronze Lersi statues(also known as Ruesi. Lersri and the Thai Hermit) with one having a tiger's face and one having a cow's. There are many styles of Lersri, monkey, krut, naga, deer(my favourite) and dragon but these two are the most common. The Lersi tradition pre dates Buddhism and the Buddha himself sought out a lersi to seek advice when becoming a hermit to meditate on the existence of man. These two figures are large at 12.5" tall and they are well cast. What we have here is an Elegant Gorgeous Large and Rare Ayutthaya Bronze Buddha Head dating to the 1400s-1600s. From Ancient Thailand. 19 inches high mounted and 14 inches for the head alone without mount and weighing a very substantial 43 pounds. This is your rare opportunity to own an exceptionally fine gorgeous Buddha Head of very large size. The face of the Buddha. Finely cast with serene expression, arched eyebrows set above incised eyes with mother of pearl inlay, acquiline nose, smiling full outlined lips, pierced elongated earlobes, curled hairdress and usnisha, top finial is absent. The patina is excellent. Very fine and mellow. Lately Thai pieces of similar size and quality(but not as visually beautiful and elegant as this one) have been selling at Sotheby's and Christie's for $20,000-$40,000. Arm cuffs, lower dress, and the gilt decoration around the base of the statue. Looks like she is making music with the objects in her hands and it is in excellent original condition.
