Presented in high relief, which gracefully descends the length of this magnificent work of art. The expanses of its diminishing width and the lateral plane of this sculpture are accentuated by the incised motifs supporting the six symmetrically placed, undulant branches, which issue forth from the upright and centrally located element of this piece. The tips of the branches and the top of the tree appear to continue around the boulder, which imparts a soft, natural and three-dimensional quality. This is a stunning bronze Buddha statue that dates from the 12th century. During the Khmer Empire. It is shocking to think that this piece is from the 1100s. It is 3.75" tall(9.5cm) and 2 3/8" wide(6.03cm) The piece has white residue coated on it because it was stored in the walls of a house for good fortune. Eventually, it was removed and sold to tourists. Inside the base was once a prayer scroll or jewel as an offering to bring good fortune, but the bottom has been opened and the contents lost to time. Figures of this type are broken, almost without exception. This piece survives in comparatively very good condition. Unusually for figures of this type, black pigment can be seen on the right eye.
