And there is a little white tag on the back of the base showing"Java $295" Research shows-Majapahit Empire Trowulan type of statue but we are not able to identify the year, style, or an artist any further. So please do your research because we basically do not know except it came from a collector and lover of antiques. It does have some minor chipping as would be expected with a vintage pottery statue. The worst chip is on the top of the right ear(please see pictures) The other chips are small and on the bottom of the head where the bottom and base meet together as the head sits on the wooden base& wood stem for display. She is also known for her great beauty and iconic manifestation of the perfect female form which is very evident in this masterpiece rendering of her. She is presented with her singular attribute. That being a closed lotus flower on her left shoulder. The early bronze sculptures made in Java were highly inspired by bronzes brought to Java by early traders from southern India. During the Majapahit Dynasty. Hinduism and Buddhism ... moremerged and they were each equally practiced. This museum quality ancient bronze is in excellent original condition. It retains an authentic original patina of rich chocolate colored hues with touches of ultramarine and green verdigris. ANDESITE STONE BUDDHA MAJAPAHIT EMPIRE 15TH - 16TH CENTURY
A wonderful andesite stone Buddha from the Majapahit empire of eastern Java and dating from the late 15th to early 16th century. It is in the form of the Sakyamuni Buddha and has a Surya behind his head a motif unique to the Majapahit art representing the cardinal directions. It has a fine old patina with a few minor chips to the lotus cushion and a small repair to the buddhas right elbow. It is quite heavy weighing approx. 20 pounds and measures 38.5 cm in height 22 cm in width and 19 cm in depth.
