1930's Bassett Buffet Sideboard Server
This is a 1930's Bassett buffet sideboard server. The maker was the Bassett Furniture Company. It was painted over to give it the antique look. Beautiful and well preserved sideboard buffet server. Red/Brown Marble with no cracks or chips. There are ink stains in the upper drawers. But this is part of its history and character. Skeleton key lock in perfect working order. The detail if the spindles and the upper hand carved piece are exquisite. The marble is approximately 1/4 inch thick and is recessed into the top. It is flush with the top. This piece is solid wood and doesn't appear to have been refinished or altered from it original state. The exact date of this piece is unknown. Mahogany Bow Front Federal Sideboard Two drawers with deep bottom drawer and upper drawer has silverware divider. Doors on each side with fluted columns. Original antique brass heppelwhite pulls this piece is probably dated to around the 30's- 50's Tapered legs. Drawers slide in and out easily but the left door does stick just a little. Not perfect but still in nice condition for it's age. Some cracking in the veneer on the top but difficult to see and the right door has been touched up but a small piece of veneer is missing. The inside of the drawer bears a tag for“G.T. Rackstraw. Worcester, England. Made from fine mahogany wood, this buffet has beautiful color and an attractive look. The company G. T. Rackstraw originated in England around 1749. They specialized in making fine furniture of mahogany. Yew, and oak. Their focus was to make a high end item that would last for many ... morelifetimes. Because of their quality construction they are rarely sold, but instead handed down from generation to generation. We feel this sideboard was made around 1960. The wonderful mahogany has a splendid grain and beautiful color. Satinwood inlays and mahogany cross bands provide subtle. But necessary contrast around the doors, drawers, and top. Further enhancing the beauty of this sideboard are fluted details between the drawers and doors and down the legs. The legs themselves are tapered and end in spade feet. The cabinet doors stay closed with a spring latch and the drawers slide smoothly on wooden runners. The brass ring pulls are in great shape and are the right proportion for this size buffet. The only blemish on this bow front sideboard is a small separation in the top on the right hand side. We have pictured this in the photos. This separation is from shrinkage of the solid mahogany top that occurs when the wood breathes. This is a cosmetic phenomenon and does not affect the integrity of the top. Gorgeous Antique Country French Console/ Sideboard/ Buffet/ Server 89" Long Very nice country French console/ sideboard with a carved swirl detail in a white wash finish and in great overall condition. Please note the legs' feet would need a bit of touch-up. I believe the wood is oak but not 100% sure. Please use your judgment when evaluating wood's kind. Note that the legs would need a bit of touch up at the bottom. Measurements are all approximate within the inch: The top measures 89" long by 20" wide. At the bottom is about 22" wide by 91" long. This is a server or buffet with tapering legs and spade feet. It has beautiful banding. It is 68" long by 22 1/2" at the widest part and 18 1/2" on the ends. And 36 3/4" in height. One has a silverware drawer that comes out and one has an open space. There is a long drawer in the center. There are a few scratches on the top.
