Very nice wire work brass screen in the top doors. Very good shape original factory finish. It has just a couple very minor scratches to the finish. Antique Inlay Burled Wood Sideboard Buffet Server 8' 6" Stunning and Unusual
Low. Reasonable starting price on this very unusual, stunning, one of a kind antique sideboard, predominantly mahogany, walnut and burled wood with inlay. I purchased this piece about 20 years ago from a Dallas TX antique dealer who told me it came from the Missouri statehouse. I have no other information as to maker or age. I've used it with traditional as well as contemporary furnishings and accessories. Very versatile. It's in good condition. It's a big piece- 8'6" long, 42" tall, 28 1/2" deep. Looks great is a big room, but I actually had it in a one bedroom apartment living room and it was the focal point. This sideboard features burled wood doors. Four of them- 2 in the front center, and 2 curved doors on each side, are burled wood with inlay lines that form an oval. The front double doors are 56 1/2" ... morewide by 23 1/4" tall. The center of the unit is 67" wide. The curved doors measure 28" across the curve and are 23 1/4" tall. There are also 2 drawers. They measure 27 3/4" wide by 4" deep. There is a pullout section directly under the top of the server, and when pulled out, this"table" measures 56 5/8" x 17 3/8" There are some marks on the top- a few scratches consistent with a piece of this age/type. But nothing that is so unsightly that it detracts from the overall quality of this piece. There is trim that has become detached from both lower side curved edges, but I have these pieces, and they are intact- they just need to be glued back in place. The back right leg was broken during one of the moves, and simply needs to be reglued. The unit is sitting on that leg currently and you cannot even see the break. The burled wood doors are in great shape and hardware. To my knowledge, is original. This piece holds a lot of stuff! Circa 1959- Superior Construction Mahogany- American Vintage Modern 68" wide. 19" deep and 32" high Superior construction. Exquisite detail and uncompromising form in a Credenza Sideboard assumed produced April 1959. We had an experienced wood worker look at this and he was fairly certain it was Mahogany. We have no firm attribution on this but have noted that Charak made sideboards using identical components that are featured on this. And even similar use of break fronts with lines for Tommi Parzinger. Drexel& Baker made styles like this. We have failed to ID it. The lengths that the maker went to on this sideboard is quite indicative of the best of the era and we have been unable to ascertain the maker. Piano hinges for the middle swing doors. Brass rods to prevent the doors from over-swing. Smoothest movement of the ... moremiddle drawer. Solid shelving and flawless drawer movement. Boasts 8 drawers and a large central area with sliding hidden drawer with extreme construction designed to take very large amounts of weight. All produced from solid wood. Note the use of banded wood on the top that travels around the breakfront. Based on the brass/bronze pulls used we are fairly certain this is the work of either Charak Modern or Baker Furniture however Dunbar and Johnsons furniture both produced similar sideboards with handle pulls that very closely resemble this one. 100% vintage condition with the mildest signs of use.
