This mission sideboard is very sturdy and has been recently refinished. The top has been replaced with a solid piece of quarter sawed oak to match the rest of the piece. The bevel glass mirror has been stripped off and a new mirror installed behind the bevel to give it a look of authenticity. This exquisite furniture shows superior craftsmanship from the golden age of Buenos Aires in Argentina- see photos of the expert finesse throughout. The black Italian famous"Nero Porfirio" marble top has been polished and sealed to resist stains. There are various losses on the bottom and back edges. Very well preserved, the silken original finish has a little fading and has been waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm luster. Beautiful and well preserved sideboard buffet server. Red/Brown Marble with no cracks or chips. There are ink stains in the upper drawers. But this is part of its history and character. Skeleton key lock in perfect working order. The detail if the spindles and the upper hand carved piece are exquisite. The marble is approximately 1/4 inch thick and is recessed into the top. It is flush with the top. This piece is solid wood and doesn't appear to have been refinished or altered from it original state. The exact date of this piece is unknown. D.R. Dimes American Federal Style Sideboard Blue Painted Surface. 2043 Item# 130008RYP12 Typical of all work by the D.R. Dimes workshop. This piece is an exceptional reproduction of an American Federal New England Sideboard. As is the case with all of their pieces, the case is true to the period, every aspect of the piece hand crafted and cut. The plain rectangular top is hand scraped, the light ridges of the plane still evident beneath the chalky blue painted surface, this projecting lightly over the facade of two doors flanking stacked drawers. The drawers and doors have tiny wooden knobs, the drawers hand dovetailed front and back with a deeply chamfered bottom that slides into rabbets along the sides, this secured with nails along the back edge. The apron of the sideboard is simply fantastic, the sharp scroll cut form flowing in perfect ... moresymmetry and adding movement to an overall austere form. Tiny round pegs are visible beneath the paint, joining each part of the tenon-mortised structure permanently in a manner true to the period. The back board is branded"D.R. DIMES" These are investment quality reproductions. Still crafted even today and available through authorized dealers throughout the States. This Hepplewhite sideboard has flaming mahogany veneers across the facade of the drawers and doors, absolutely glowing when caught in the right light. This stunning sideboard/dresser/buffet travelled from England to America with my parents when they moved here in the 1970's. And took pride of place in their home for the remainder of their lives. It is now time to liquidate their assets, and pass on the pleasure of ownership of such a beautiful and versatile piece to someone who appreciates the beauty, history and craftsmanship of high quality furniture. It is made of mahogany, with beautifully carved embellishments and a gorgeous, flawless large focal mirror. The bottom section has six dove-tailed drawers, and the top section consists of a large focal mirror flanked on each side by two small shelves.
