This beauty has the LIONS or Griffins, the BIZARRE DOLPHINS with the large protruding LIPS, SEASHELL PULLS, and Acanthus Vine and Leaf Decorations. all telling us that this is truly a R.J. Horner! The quality of the carvings is absolutely awesome. The acanthus adorned Lions(Griffins) along the top row of drawers are hauntingly lifelike as Horner was renowned for in all his work. The tiger oak is'top of the line' Of course. All the middle drawers. Doors and bottom FULL WIDTH DRAWER still have their locks and keyhole covers. It appears that one of the early owners wanted to hang a very large painting above this sideboard ... morerather than the mirror that might have been part of the piece. I'm sure this situation was quite common. They also either special ordered the piece with no feet or removed them to make room on the wall for a very tall and wide canvas! We decided to keep this rare find as original as we found it. If desired. This is a really great quarter sawn oak sideboard server. Circa 1900 American with extensive carving. Overall size of the piece is height 83. Width 48, and depth 24. This piece has been refinished and has a smooth and even finish. Note the beveled mirror(excellent) and the original brass pulls. The carvings are very good and in an overall organic motif. The quartered oak used in this piece is very nice. Unusual fall front drawer on the front. From an estate in Southern Michigan- a very impressive piece. Large German Arts and Crafts four-door oak sideboard. Unique angular design and inlay details. Aged brass handle pulls with vertical sliding bar lock on main doors. Key included. Black inlay is either ebony or rosewood. White inlay dots looks like ivory. Brass H-hinges. Top is inlaid with same dark wood and deep blue tiles. 1 3/4" tall backsplash and side rails. Pull out for additional surface space. Four drawers across top. One with suede lining. Left cabinet has supports for three shelves, but shelves are missing. Center section with one shelf. Being offered for sale is this very Large Victorian Tiger Oak Sideboard/ Buffet with Carved North Wind Faces. Brass North Wind Pulls and Carved Paw Feet circa 1895. This outstanding 19th century sideboard features an abundance of detailed carvings from top to bottom and has three working keys, the original beveled mirrors and the original ornate brass hardware. This sideboard measures a total height from the floor to the top of the carved pediment at the back of 80 inches. With a height to the base at the front of 37 3/4 inches, total width of 59 1/2 inches and depth at the base portion of 24 inches and this massive sideboard weighs approximately 250 lbs and does disassemble into 2 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. The fine display shelf measures 59 inches wide by 13 inches deep and is 21 1/2 inches in height from the ... moretop of the base. This tiger oak sideboard is very solid and tight and has a gorgeous presence. The three keys work the locks on the drawers(one key for each drawer) but neither of the keys work the locks on the cabinet doors. The top right drawer does have divided compartments for flatware with newer green felt lining. We believe the large beveled mirrors to be original or at least antique replacements and there is some light spotting and some mild silver loss as common in old mirrors. The top mirror does show a small fracture in the bottom right corner that appears to have been there for sometime and not a major issue in my opinion but there. I have a close up picture of this area. The very front right corner of the sideboard base shows some wear and scuffing please see picture and as common in antiques the top of the sideboard does show some age and usage marks one expects to see on pieces over 100 years old.This outstanding sideboard/ buffet offers a tremendous amount of storage space and is definitely a statement piece to add to your dining area. It is a mission arts/crafts style and has a beveled mirror on backsplash. This buffet sideboards measures 48" W x 38" H x 21" D- the backsplash adds another 12 1/2" H to the back of the buffet. This piece is in pretty good condition for its age. But does have some cracking/chipping in a couple of spots- particularly one door is cracked. There is also a wet ring stain(see picture) presumably from someone putting a glass down on the wood. This well-loved and well-tended piece has been with us for decades; we are offering as part of downsizing for retirement. It is a visually stunning and intricate piece. But has seen use and wear which is apparent to the critical eye(see pictures for the most major flaws) This is a hand-carved two-part sideboard(gallery and base) Circa 1870. A lion-motif pediment was added to the top of the mirrored gallery. Barley-twist column supports flank a 3-section vitrine of beveled mirror and glass. The mirror and glass is original and in excellent condition. Underneath the gallery is an open area with double-turned column supports. The gallery is set upon a single base of carved oak possessing 3 rectangular drawers(the centermost is partitioned inside for holding silverware) and 3 paneled cabinet doors. Plus one long rectangular drawer along the base. ... moreThe drawers flanked by barley rope twist columns; the drawers themselves possess decorative carvings and possess their original brass bail handles with embossed heads in relief. All drawers and cabinets can be open/shut easily(pictures available upon request) Parts of the original brass fixtures have been lost from the cabinet doors and the joins between the gallery column supports and the base of the gallery have lost their original façade decoration and cracked slightly open. Maintaining the original finish requires applying lemon oil 1-2 times a year. Drawers slide smoothly provided the runners are rubbed 1-2 times a year with a bar of hard soap. Here is an exquisite. Massive, Antique 19th cent. American(probably Horner) quarter sawn oak sideboard buffet server. Straight out of a Long Island estate. Was in the same family for 70 years. This piece was made around 1880 and represents carved oak at its best. Incredibly carved with lions' heads. Paws, ribbons, and scrolls. Doors are all carved scrolls with center cartouche. They are separated by 2 columns of carved ribbons and fruit. The drawers above have handles of lions' faces. The top is crowned with an incredible lion head. The only condition issues are a small ring stain and a darker area on the top front right. Also a thin slit in the wood appx 18 inch long. These are very minor and can easily be fixed. It is a lion head, claw foot, scroll carved, tiger sawn oak, leaded glass curio mirror back top sideboard, dating from the 1890s in completely stripped and refinished condition. We’ve repaired a back leg that was broken and totally restored it and replaced a panel on the side, and we’ve refinished it of course, and now this sideboard is all ready to go in the home right out of the shipping crate. It’s of tiger sawn oak, with a leaded glass china closet top, and I believe there are three panes with small cracks in them. They are very hard to see, but I wanted to mention them. The mirrored back is original on top, but the one underneath the gallery has been replaced due to silver issues. The columns have claw feet and lion heads, the base has a scroll applied, leaf carved front that scrolls down into a beautiful detailed claw foot with carved wings underneath. It has rolled front drawers that are all dovetailed, doors, and a large center drawer. The thing that is really unique on this is the hardware, which I’ve never seen before. Stunning antique oak French Provincial style buffet. This generously sized piece has plenty of storage space and two shelves that could be used for serving. The fronts of the two main doors are carved with a motif of ribbons and musical instruments and there are simple flowers adorning the valanced and scrolled skirt. Panelled doors. Sides and back. Drawer pulls and other hardware look like antiqued brass. Each of the narrow side cabinets have two shelves that come with them, but are not currently installed. The back of the lower shelf has been covered in a white textured paper that is very pretty, but likely not original to the piece.
