Whimsical R.J.Horner carved quarter-sawn oak American Victorian sideboard
Well. This piece is a little out in left field for me- I generally deal in more traditional, classical sort of formal Georgian or Federal pieces, but I couldn't resist the whimsy of this piece, to say nothing of the underlying quality. I bought it on impulse, as I was charmed by(and a little taken aback with) the rather cross-looking hand-carved'sun' on the back of this Victorian mirrored-back sideboard. The Victorian quirkiness carries through to a series of small beveled round'porthole' type mirrors up top, and some rather inspired organic whippy details each side of the half-round beveled mirror. There are a series of three drawers. Also profusely carved, with a larger drawer center and below. Cupboards flank to each lower side- no carving on their doors, but the doors are solid quarter-sawn white oak, not veneer. It ... morewas only when I was moving the piece that I found the small enameled button label- there are losses to the top. But it clearly identifies the maker as R.J. Horner. Now, a confession- I knocked the bloody thing off when moving the sideboard, so the button is loose, as you can see- I took a photo of it next the spot on the back where it was mounted, and thankfully there's a'shadow' of oxidation to confirm it was there( and the nail which held it in place remains) This is just a fun. If slightly silly high-Victorian piece, of surprising quality. The serving surface, sides, door and drawer fronts, and upper shelf are all solid oak- secondary wood seems to be beech. It's possible that the beveled half-round mirror has been replaced- it looks very clean; by comparison the upper small round mirrors have minor blemishes. Overall the piece measures 53" wide. 20" deep, and 81" tall overall( 39" to the serving surface) I'll ship from Bellingham WA- we'll have to work out the details. But'Plycon' seems to be a good'go-to' shipper. Could be 400. 600. if across the Country.

This good sized example has a triple plate rack upstand over base with single deep drawer and single cupboard. Each with applied geometric mouldings and cast handles being raised on turned legs with stretchered supports. Monumental RJ Horner griffin oak carved curio top sideboard the best This is the best sideboard in oak on eBay and the market right now. Horner did make one model that is as grand with griffins supporting the top and I've only heard of one selling in the past 6 years. This is a opportunity to buy a museum quality piece of American history that will not happen again for some time. We have restored it to its original grandeur and it has no apologies as you can see. Rarely can you stand 100% behind a piece that is 110+ years old to the extent I will with this one. I will shorten my description because the pictures really tell the tale. Starting at the bottom you have a massive base with bowed and projected center section and fluted drawers. On the ends stand full bodied griffins on the 45 degree angle and they are huge! Their heads are 5+" ... moreacross. That's the start, them moving up to the center section the curio top is supported by 4 massive ball and claw feet and carved ankles. Three beveled mirrors comprise the back filler section and this all supports this massive curio glass top. The top consists of a total of 12 beveled and mirrored glass' the bonnets are carved with radius doors and a arched hood then topped with a huge 16" carved lions head in the center. Within the arch is a carved frieze board with fighting griffins holding a carved crest of sorts. I'm trying to stop I promise but it's a exciting piece! The hardware is the heaviest detailed hardware I've seen on a piece with the greatest detail, carved lions heads and faces with manes. Every screw to every piece of hardware was there and we cleaned every piece and reapplied them. Fantastic piece that deserves the proper home. I have owned this beautiful oak sideboard for about 10 years. It is in nice shape with the original finish. It has a few minor condition issues(see photos) Nothing serious. Measures 86 1/2 inches wide, 23 1/4 inches deep, and 51 inches tall. It is made to come apart. So it is much easier to move than it appears. My Father told me it was common for old furniture to come apart in northern Europe as stairways and doors were often narrow. The family I bought it from purchased it in the 1950's from a friend who imported antiques from Belgium. Listed for sale is this beautiful quarter sawn oak antique cabinet. Not sure what to call the style exactly. I have owned the item for 15 years and I bought it from an antique dealer in Tulsa. Ok. I was told it was from around 1860 and came out of a European church and held sacrament items and robes. Since, I have heard numerous other descriptions. We loved it, and have always called it our sideboard. I have tried to catch all the details in the pictures, if you look you will notice every carving is different, it had to be hand carved. All the dovetails look to be hand cut. I consider the piece to be in great condition. There is patina and character from years of enjoyment, but no structural issues, guaranteed. Have all the keys to the locks, and all the locks are supposed to be the original scroll locks. I would love to keep it, however, ... moreit is too big for our new location. I have never had it refinished, or ever put any wax on it. We have always kept it oiled regularly to keep the wood from drying out and splitting. This piece has gorgeous grain and still retains its original DARK finish. Has two smaller drawers across the top and one large drawer across the middle. And cabinet with two doors below- all with original wooden knobs. Columns/pillars on either side of the mirror. It is in very good/excellent condition with some normal wear on the feet. Some small scuffs on the top(nothing major- the worst is shown) small nicks and scratches here and there, and the cabinet doors each need a latch. Otherwise great with maybe some dust. It's not too bad but as expected, you'd probably want to clean it to your liking before using it. The drawers have keyholes/key holes. I might have the ... morekey lying around- will have to check. A mission/Arts& Crafts piece in excellent condition and highly functional. Stands 52 inches high and is 4 feet by 20.5 inches in size. Striking tiger oak pieces. All original handles. The top drawer has a removable sliding tray with divisions and original velvet tray bottom in mint condition. Two small handles to lift it with. There are two small drawers on each side and then a very shallow drawer for place mats. Below that two doors and big space for storage and at the bottom a good-sized drawer for storage. The mirror is a bit foggy but original and there is one black spot on the top. Other than that beautifully maintained and cared for. High quality furniture making craft in this piece.

We are pleased to offer to the market this beautiful antique sideboard. Made from Victorian oak this piece dates to the late 1800's ~ early 1900's. The piece measures 71" high at the back center. It has a width of 44" at the top of the work surface and a height of 36" to the top of the work surface. The depth is 22.25" The top boasts a large center mirror flanked by shelves on either side that extend out to columns that support a large upper shelf. The fronts of the columns have carved leaf designs. The top above the shelf has applied carved acanthus leaf scrolls. There is also a variation of this design on the doors below. Under the work station there are two small drawers atop a full width large drawer. The drawers all have dove tail construction. There are cabinet doors that open below the drawers affording ... moremore storage. There are some age and use appropriate scratches and dings on this piece and some light staining on the top. Circa date, 1940, Condition, Excellent, Wood, Oak, Dimensions, Width- 60" Depth- 20" Height- 95.5" Price includes free shipping! Circa 1940 Oak Barley twist turnings Excellent condition, This tall and beautiful antique Welsh dresser will make a statement in any room! The gorgeous barley twist columns and stretchers combine with the oak wood to make a magnificent piece of furniture. The oak wood has a really beautiful medium brown color and a gorgeous grain. There are so many wonderful features to point out on this Welsh dresser that we will start from the top and work our way down. At the very top is a moulded crown with some carved detail below it. Two long barley twist columns ... morerun down the shelf section and end in carved balusters. The three shelves feature plate grooves(for standing up plates) and are 5″ deep. Some nicely carved arches decorated the middle back panel just below the last shelf. As we move down the piece. The cabinet section features two doors and three drawers. The cabinet doors lock with one included key. The left cabinet has a removable shelf and the right has a drawer inside. The top drawer in the middle is sectioned into 3 areas and lined with felt. This felt inside this drawer is quite worn and missing in places and it should be replaced. Finally, moving down to the legs, feet, and stretchers you can see again the use of the lovely barley twist. This antique Welsh dresser was made in Wales sometime around 1940. It is in excellent condition. The top has. At some point, been married to the bottom as you can see from the picture of the back. The only two flaws are the bad felt in the top drawer and some wear to the moulding around the bottom of the section with the cabinets and drawers. This can be seen in the photos. Here we have for offer a beautiful solid oak dresser in the Jacobean revival manner dating to the early 20th century. This good example has a rear upstand with small cornice and triple panelled back on base with two frieze drawers and three geometric moulded cupboard doors being raised on bobbin turned legs with stretcher support. The drawers are all oak lined with dovetail joints and fine brass drop handles which match the cupboards. The sideboard is in good order being free from splits or worm and comes in two parts for transportation.
