Carved Oak Antique Server or Buffet Made in England
This is an amazing very heavily carved Sever. It was made in England circa 1880. To the back and base there are carved faces maybe family relatives,to the base there are 3 drawers for some reason there are no handles you open them from underneath with your finger there is a secret hole, this could be for safety children opening. The center of the base they call this a dog kennel and either side there are doors. The top comes of the base so its easy to transport. To the top either side there are very heavily carved fish aboce there is a gallery with turned small pillars. Great piece I don`t think you will ever see another one. Measurements are 75 wide.82 high, 23 deep.

There are 4 doors to the bottom and 3 drawers to the top. The only thing I can see is missing is one drop from the brass handles. Measurements are 78 wide 26 deep 90 high. The design is of oak leaves and acorns spilling down the handle in an Art Nouveau fashion. The pattern itself commemorates the Charter Oak in which a Royal Charter was hidden during the protectorate of Cromwell. The Charter Oak is the symbol of Connecticut, home of 1847 Rogers, and even appears on the 1999 quarter commemorating that state. Charter Oak was made until the beginning of WWI in 1917, and may have been slightly available after the war. The round pierced server began life in the 1880s as ... morethe tomato server. At this time, hothouses that could produce tomatos year round were beginning to appear. The method of serving tomatos depends on the way they are cut. The traditional style is to slice them horizontally, resulting in a series of thin circles of tomato. These slices are then put on a plate and passed around. To move the tomato slices one uses a round bladed server with holes for draining off juice and seeds. These tomato servers are extremely useful things, the perfect way to get round sloppy food onto people's plates. They work for dishes as diverse as croquettes, chicken salad, stuffed peppers and of course, tomatos. The pierced tomato server offered here measures about 7 1/2. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of asmuch as 105 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The marble is a wonderful color match or the oak wood with tans and taupes throughout. It would be an excellent piece in a dining room or to use as a bar. The wood used is solid oak and the entire piece is quite heavy. Despite its weight. It is also very sturdy and strong. There are two drawers and two cabinet doors in this marble top server that provide a good amount of storage. The cabinets and the back splash have complimenting wood carvings that also tie in to the brass drawer handles. Not sparing any attention to detail, the maker also fluted the front corners by the cabinet doors, paneled the sides and back splash, and added plate grooves to the back splash for displaying fine china. All of these fine details combine to make a truly wonderful antique marble top server. This antique server is in excellent condition. The drawers and doors function correctly. The wood and finish are in excellent shape as is the marble. There is a small gap on the right side where two boards meet. This is normal for a solid wood piece and the sides are quite stable. for auction a wonderful antique quartersawn oak server or could be used as a sideboard in a smaller dining room sitting. it has great form and beauty. The top and bottom sides are bombayed, the center drawers are bowed in a fine fashion. three curved upperdrawers, the center with felt. it has two doors on either side as you see. the piece is presented in original finish, all the hardware is original and perfect including the door locks. each drawer has original lock, all locks work with ease and i have the original key for it. it has two fierce whole bodied griffins on the mirror crest which are carved in a very fine fashion. it has the original beveled mirror which needs to be cleaned. as i was cleaning the woodwork on the mirror frame some of the new life got on the mirror and i just wiped it off, should have used some water. anyway, the ... moremirror will clean up nicely and only has a few minor areas of silver loss. this is a very heavy piece, i can barely lift one end with the drawers out and the mirror off. it was made by a superior cabinet maker, possibly horner of new york, as the drawer construction with the birdseye maple bottom are very indicative of his work. it could have been made by berkey and gay from mich. really doesn't matter who made it. it is constructed with perfection. it has 4 very well carved claw feet that support it. the cabinet is in wonderful antique condition with great patina. i cleaned and polished it as it has been in storage for a few years. it is quite solid and everything that is suppose to work, works like the day it was made. there are no major blemishes but on a piece that is 120 years old you can expect a few little bumps and bruises, however, i would classify this piece as near mint condtion. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck fyi, i paid 2000 for it years ago, i am starting it at 2300. ebay has triple their fees, it used to be 3 percent, they raised to 10 percent, greedy bastards. at any rate, their commission and listing fees etc. wi
