The sideboard has an open niche to the centre with frieze drawer above. This drawer is constructed with hand cut dovetail joints and benefits from having it's original swan neck handles. This is flanked by 2 cupboards. The left hand cupboard has a single shelf to the inside which is enclosed with a panel door complete with original handle and original working lock and key. The right hand cupboard has a slide drawer to the inside and again is enclosed with a panel door but this one has a later working lock. It is made of mahogany, with beautifully carved embellishments and a gorgeous, flawless large focal mirror. The bottom section has six dove-tailed drawers, and the top section consists of a large focal mirror flanked on each side by two small shelves. Above the main mirror is another shelf, ab ove which is a smaller mirror. Both mirrors have bevelled edges. The top has been re-sprayed to reveal the gorgeous grains in the fine veneers used. The front is all flame mahogany on the dovetail drawers, paneled drawers, and the straight drawers. All the drawers are dovetail, and the outside top drawers are both velvet lined. The left-hand drawer is divided for silverware. The four middle drawers are all curved front, dovetailed, and have beautiful matched flame mahogany veneer. They all have heavy cast-brass hardware, and the piece has a fancy cutout base. The large lower 2 drawers are veneered with stunning burled/flame mahogany. Notice the awesome black wood tones mixed into the burled mahogany grains. These colors are all natural. The finish I used was many, many coats of hand rubbed varnish over the birdseye maple and the mahogany for the gorgeous natural finish you see which protects the wood and brings out the wonderful grains and textures.The trim along the lower edge of the side panels is a custom addition. I finished all of the mahogany drawer bottoms with many. Many coats of hand rubbed varnish. The upper left drawer I lined with royal blue velvet just for show. Here is a absolutely gorgeous early 20th century oversize beautifully carved mahogany sideboard is paneled with detailed carvings on the lower doors and mantle back panels. Fluted edges, two beveled mirror back candle stands, display shelves, and large work or serving surface, drawers and cabinet space below, recently imported from the United Kingdom through Edinburgh, Scotland. Please take the time to look at my close up photo's of these beautiful carvings including urns, a figure- perhaps Neptune and the words GLORIA NON PRADEA in the top center, and tall stone towers on the central lower doors. This sideboard is not in perfect condition but it is overall seasoned and in very nice commensurate with it's age with primarily the minor nicks, dents and scratches to the finish and a few minor dark stains to the top surface as one expects ... morewith respectful use over this length of time but the mahogany is lovely and the more one looks at the hand carvings, you realized how detailed the work is and how exceptional this very large piece is overall. This fabulous sideboard stands 63 inches tall and measures 80 1/2 inches long by 25 inches front to back. With a surface height of 38 inches and an upper shelf the length of the piece 57 1/2 inches above the floor. The sideboard when shipped will travel in two pieces- the top section 25 inches tall by 9 1/2 inches front to back by 80 inches long, and the base, 38 inches tall by 25 inches front to back and 80 1/2 inches long. The beveled mirrors on either end of the top section measure 11 1/4 inches wide by 10 1/2 inches tall. It is a beautiful federal style with a wavey front and short curved legs. It bows out in the center and curves in on the sides and back out to the corners. It has 4 drawers doen the center with the top drawer having removable dividers for flatware. There are 2 doors on each side with a gorgeous brass inlay into the Mahogany wood. Above the 2 doors are 2 small drawers. This piece has lots of storage.The pulls are solid oval brass. The entire pieces is Mahogany veneer over solid wood. The drawers are dovetailed and all in good shape and glide well. It has no oders. Breaks, missing parts or repairs. Antique Georgian Mahogany Serpentine Sideboard Circa 1860 This is a lovely Antique Mahogany Georgian Serpentine Sideboard hand-crafted in England around 1860. The mahogany has a rich grain and deep lustre. Which is complemented by the burl walnut banding and solid brass hardware. The serpentine design looks quite elegant with the square-tapered legs, which end in spade feet. Single middle drawer with two additional drawers on the sides all with dove-tailed joints. There is locks on all the drawers but unfortunately the keys are no longer with the piece of furniture. The sideboard is approxamately72 inches wide X 48 inches high at the sides x 24 inches deep in the center and 21 inches deep at the sides and 55 inches high at the finial. I have made one picture with a Flash to show the Burl pattern and the original key hole design.This is the lightest colored picture. The actual color of the piece is the darker color that is in most of the pictures Please note the very small hand carved dovetails in the drawers. Very high quality Mahogany Duncan Phyfe style sideboard; top drawers on each end have divided and are felt lined for silver. Center drawer and the 3 below are all open for lots of storage and the two doors open to a shelved area for two levels of stacking and storing. The makers tag is work off to the point of being illegible; the cut out legs on the bottom show this to be of higher quality. Those that are a bit run of the mill have the solid skirting around the base. This is a beautiful American formal mahogany sideboard made by Councill. Councill is a beautiful maker of period American style furniture in formal a mahogany wood and designs. The sideboard measures 38.5 inches in height. 66 inches in length, 24 inches in depth. It has a great form, perfect size because it is not too big or too small. It has several beautiful inlay wood designs around it. The finish is original and very clean. The people bought this in the mid 1990s and paid $5,850 plus tax on it so i am selling it at a fraction of the original price. The only blemish is on top they had a candlestick which created some light surface lines ... moreor blemishes to the finish, pictured.
