This is a beautiful sideboard. Or buffet, made by Biggs Furniture Company and bought new in 1956. It has been in the same household that entire time in a smoke-free environment and very gently used. The mahogany construction features line inlays, working locks and two keys. It has one center drawer flanked by two bottle cabinets. One cabinet has a drawer with dividers for silver serving utentsils. The center drawer comes with a removable Gorham silver storage tray with protective cover flap. It is almost 6 feet long and measures 25" deep at the widest part and stands 38" high. The sideboard is in excellent condition and was recently appraised at a fair market value of $1800 by an antiques expert. The appraisal is available on request. This beautiful sideboard. Or buffet, is made by Kittinger and signed with their classic burned-in"Buffalo" mark on the inside of the central drawer. We believe that this fine piece of reproduction furniture was made in the 1960's, in the Hepplewhite style. It measures 79" wide, 23 1/2" deep, and 39 3/8" tall. There is a brass gallery attached to the back that adds another 11" to the total height of the piece, making it 50 3/8" tall in total. The piece is constructed with beautifully figured mahogany. The three drawer faces are banded, as is the shaped apron under the central drawer. In my opinion the drawers on the sides work better than cupboard doors, as it allows easier access to the contents of the drawers, eliminating the need to remove the items in the front to access the items in the rear. Beautiful brass pulls and solid oak drawer slides further embellish the drawers, along with the banding and inlays. Since this piece is approximately 50 years old. It does have some wear on it from normal use. It is not"Show Room Perfect" There are some minor blemishes here and there in the form of dents, bumps, and bruises, as there should be on a vintage piece of furniture. After close examination of the sideboard, it appears that some professional repairs have been performed to the inlaid edges on corners of the sideboard's top. Period Antique English Mahogany Hepplewhite Sideboard w Cellarette Vintage 1700s
Hepplewhite Sideboard This antique Hepplewhite sideboard is made from mahogany with satinwood bellflower inlays. It was made in England and dates from the late eighteenth century. The sideboard is very finely proportioned and is a nice diminutive size that would fit in many homes. The measurements are 66" long and 36" high; it is only 19" deep. The most outstanding feature of the sideboard is the cellarette drawer on the right for holding wine bottles. The sideboard is in very good condition. There is no missing inlay. Two of pieces of curved molding have come away from the left drawer but both remain with the piece. One small piece of mahogany edge banding is missing above the cellarette drawer. You can see in the photos below the handcut dovetails and matched crotch grain veneer of the drawers. An interesting letter was found ... morein one drawer of the sideboard. It shows that the piece was sold by an antiques dealer in 1965. The sideboard was purchased from Schumann Antiques in Louisville. Kentucky. The firm is still in business and still sells fine antiques. I am listing this piece of furniture as"Local Pickup" in the Mid-Missosuri area. Knechtels is out of Hanover, Ontario. Knechtels Ltd was formed in the mid 1930's but I have no idea how Blowey Henry is connected to it. The latter was established in Alberta in 1906. One small piece of mahogany edge banding is missing above the cellarette drawer. You can see in the photos below the handcut dovetails and matched crotch grain veneer. An interesting letter was found in one drawer of the sideboard. It shows that the piece was sold by an antiques dealer in 1965. The sideboard was purchased from Schumann Antiques in Louisville. Kentucky. The firm is still in business and still sells fine antiques. Payment is simplest and fastest by Paypal. Buyer may return item in same condition for refund of selling price.
