Measurements are as follows: 84"W x ... more69"T X 24"D. Weight: approx. 150-200lbs. There are a couple of small trim pieces where the backsplash meets the base that are missing, a couple that are loose. The top section of the backsplash has seperated and a couple small pieces of carved trimwork are missing as a result(can be seen in the pics) There is a small a chip on the front left edge of the table surface. One of the locks is missing from one of the doors and there is a stain on the top that can be clearly seen in the photo. Im sure there are other bumps/bruises but nothing glaring. All that having been said, this piece is really stunning in person and all of the condition issues are fairly simple repairs. The flaws I mentioned are only noticed upon close scrutiny and have never been pointed out to me by anyone who has seen it in person. Original finish is in good shape, just as it appears in the photos. The color, in person, is probably somewhere between the lightest and darkest photos. The carving on this piece is AWESOME! The quartersawn grain is heavy and pronounced. Bought this piece and the matching server, which I will be listing soon) to restore but I am out of time/space. I feel I have a reasonable opening bid on this piece but if it does not sell, I will restore it and the price will go up considerably. Personally, im kinda getting burned out on the figurals and winged griffins that usually adorn pieces of this quality so its nice to see a great piece without that typical subject matter. The Thomasville Chair Company could not pay its debt in cash and by 1915(or a few years before) the Finch brothers took over the company and began producing and selling furniture for the entire house under the name Finch Fine Furniture(accompanied by a metal trademark) The company topped $1 million in sales by 1917. Field Guide to American Victorian Furniture 1st Edition Sofa Sideboard Bookcase
I have come into possession of some nice books that I will be auctioning off now and again. This auction is for a 1st edition book titled"Field Guide to American Victorian Furniture" by Thomas H Ormsbee. This is a great smaller pocket type book that covers many facets of the Victorian furniture period in America. It covers the high end pieces that would have been found in the mansions of the time to the more common items found in the farmhouse or the small business man in the village. There are many black and white drawings as examples of the period furniture and then you get the text describing the characteristics of the piece and similar pieces of the time. The book was published in 1952 and does have a lettering system that translates into a price range for the piece. It is interesting to compare the 1952 price to what is being ... morerealized today. Believe or not some pieces have not changed much in price range. This was a former Dunkirk Free Library book but was withdrawn from the shelves in the early 1970s. It has been in a private collection since then. The book is still in pretty good condition with some foxing to the cover. Other than that it is ready for use as a research book again. Being offered for sale. Is a beautiful antique handmade sideboard/ buffet/server/ credenza made by Charak Funiture Co. circa 1939. It is hand numbered"7142" It is in good condition. There is a small spot on the top where the finish has worn down just a little bit. Additionally. The left front leg has a tiny little chip in the corner(very hard to notice- see photos) I do try to note every imperfection, in the interest of full disclosure. Last thing I would want as a seller is to have you come to retrieve the piece and have it not be in the stated condition.
