A most beautifully designed. Carved, and flame veneered on fronts, antique late Federal/early Empire, solid mahogany sideboard. The finest craftmanship we have had in many years. The four front columns are twist rope carved, carved pinched drape collared, with carved scroll capitols, the front legs carved to match. The uprights between the drawers with relief carved stiff acanthus leaves. The drawers and doors have recessed panels, the drawers with the original mahogany knobs. Behind the doored compartments are three original shelves. Pine case, solid mahogany sides with recessed panel. The top is one fine mahogany board, the backsplash very fine, the side splash with nicely shaped ends. It measures 4'3" 51" tall by 6'1" 64" wide by 2' 24" deep. Excellent condition: original finish, top board without ring ... morespots or stains(tight 12" horizontal crack to the right end. Sides and side recessed panels without cracks. The flame veneers are excellent(tiny piece missing on backsplash. The two center drawers are missing their locks, the door locks are all present.

It is a wonderful scaled-down example after the originals of a century prior. Throughout the surface, a warm mellowing and patina have developed quite nicely, the result being an overall presentation that is quite above reproach. It is angular with outstanding lines, these accentuated by the fruitwood stringer inlay in each panel and door, bellflowers inlaid above the front two tapered legs. The drawer retains it's first pair of brass knobs, the sides hand dovetailed and the bottom ... moresliding into the sides in routed grooves on either side. It has a wealth of cabinet space, the middle cabinet divided with a single shelf in the interior. This is a fine reproduction for a classical or Federal dining room where space is a challenge and size of furnishings is of important consideration. Well preserved and extremely attractive. A very nice antique. Circa 1800, Federal bow side and serpentine front mahogany sideboard. The flame mahogany top board is solid and not veneer. The legs are solid mahogany with string inlay and oval inlay rosettes. The side panels, drawer, and door are flame mahogany veneers with bands of uncommon checkerboard inlay. The case interior is maple and oak. Glass drawer knobs are replacements to original wood or brass knobs. All locks present with three keys for left door, right door, and top drawer, lower compartment doors have no key. Sideboard measures 3'4" 40" tall by 6' 72" wide by 23" deep. Very good condition: original unworn finish, minor tiny veneer chip or nick here or there. Some cracking to veneers where doors and side panel boards behind them have aged. The backsplash is unusual in being a broken arch with reeded chimneys, the splash showing a vibrant flame veneer. The top is one board, except the bow center is another board. There are three drawers over four doors. The center doors open to a compartment with a single straight stationary shelf, the side compartments with a concave front stationary shelf. Here is an absolutely delightful large antique federal style sideboard or buffet with gorgeous flame mahogany veneers. Columns with detailed carving above and below with very detailed fabulous carved lion's feet on the front legs. The large lovely cabinet has a really nice top surface with a number of faint or light scratches but no major gauges, stains, chips or other serious damage to the top as I attempt to show in my photographs. It is a somewhat oversize functional piece of furniture and perfect for a front entry hall, hallway, dining room or any room in your home or business. It has three drawers and three large open cabinets with lots of extra storage in a classic 19th century Federal style sideboard in very nice condition and ready to make a statement in your home or office. The original metal hardware is all intact and sort of ... morea floral, perhaps a peony, in shape and are attached through into recessed holes within the drawers as shown. Investing just a bit into the minor repairs to the veneer to restore this great buffet to it's former glory will make this piece even more special and valuable if you prefer antiques restored and in near perfect condition. Maryland, 20th Century Item# 412QXR08S This is an exquisite reproduction sideboard by the Potthast Brothers furniture firm. Established in the mid 19th century and renowned for their exceptional quality and benchmade construction. This is a very fine example, quite angular with clean undistracted lines. A single drawer in the center retains it's original stamped brass bail pulls, opening to reveal a felt upholstered interior(remaining in excellent condition) and the Potthast branding. The drawer is hand dovetailed along the front and back corners, the bottom of the drawer machine chamfered along the edges and set in grooves with small supporting blocks. Beneath the drawer are a pair of cupboard doors, opening to reveal a shelved interior. This is flanked ... moreby full height cupboard doors on the right and left, each veneered with vibrant crotch-mahogany. Each leg is inlaid with a complex patera oval with rectangular double-stringer inlays over the hanging bellflowers that flow down the tapered leg. These terminate in perfect spade feet. Works by the Potthast Brothers are broadly regarded as"tomorrow's antiques" Crafted to last the test of time both structurally and stylistically- the classical form of the present example is timeless, as this style has been cherished for two hundred years.
