I am unsure if the type of wood it is made from, but it is most likely mahogany. This sideboard has amazing carved details on the embossed panels, and is very majestic, while being delicate and ornate at the same time. There are a few of the little decorative finial pieces that are loose. The key is intact with the piece. The piece has adjustable shelves on the top cabinet, and more shelving in the bottom section. This can be seen in the photos. The top piece by itself is 39” tall, and the bottom is 55" tall, making the piece an incredible 94" tall total.

Crafted in the mid-20th Century, this fine American Federal Style Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard comes from one of the east coast's finest furniture manufacturers. Entirely bench made. The piece is joined with hand cut dovetails, machine beveled panels that slide into rabbets in the frame throughout and fine stamped hardware. The grains selected for the mahogany surfaces simply glow, reflecting warm light in soft parallel rays. Each front panel is framed in squared stringer inlays with notched corners, the legs decorated with hanging bellflower inlays and the apron finished with fine bands of ebony and golden stringer inlay. The piece features three doors on the front which open to reveal shelves. This is a door on the side which opens to reveal a leaf holder. This would have been used to store up to five of the leaves from an extending table. But today could also have other uses. The gorgeous flame mahogany is a wonderful colour which is the result of 150 years of sunlight and can not be reproduced today. This a 19th century antique mahogany sideboard with some solid mahogany. Some figured mahogany veneers and pine secondary. There are two drawers over what appears to be three doors but is actually two doors. The right hand drawer is a lined drawer for silver ware and the bottom section can be totally locked. Drawers are hand dovetailed and the bottoms of the drawers are chamfered. The columns are like double ended C scrolls and the feet are simple.typical mid 1800's Empire Revival piece. Height to top = 40 1/2" Width = 57" Depth at deepest = 24" The lock sets are original. They are the"same" lockset in that they are both either left handed or right handed as the key needs to be reversed to work each lock. They lock easily. The key has been replaced. There are areas of missing and damaged veneer on the base. The drawer pulls are not original. And the drawer locks have been removed. One of the pads(back left) the base rests on is missing. The spindle detail on the left side of the base under the marble is missing. There is some silver loss to the mirrors. Unfortunately, that didn't work out. This is way less than I paid for it, but I probably paid too much and the economy is different now. This beautiful antique sideboard appears to have its original finish. It has 8 great ball& claw feet. The drawer& door pulls appear to be original. It has a couple of felt lined drawers I assume for silver flatware. It has a metal lined drawer I assume to cool wine or food( It is a relatively large piece of furniture which would be the focal point of any room. The dimensions of the sideboard are: Height 43 1/2 inches Length 72 inches Depth 24 inches Center height 27 inches Of course. This sideboard has some age so some bumps and ... morewear should be expected. I've noted nothing major but there are a few minor imperfections that I do want to mention. Here is an absolutely spectacular find from an old Charleston family estate auction and in very nice condition for it's age. a circa 1870's in the Style of Adams Revival(part of the Regency Revival movement from 1880 to 1920) when the expanding middle class became attracted to the light and elegant designs. As a contrast to the heavier and more cluttered interiors which had dominated their homes during the second half of the 19th century. Typical of Style of Adam pieces, this sideboard has Classical Roman decorative motifs, such as framed medallions, urns and floral swags. This delightful sideboard incorporated beautiful flame mahogany and crotch mahogany veneers into the absolutely perfect mantle across the back and the front door panels. I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, ... morequality, condition, construction and overall beauty of this special old piece but pictures just don't do it justice. Benchmade probably during the last quarter of the 20th Century. The beautiful ribbed mahogany veneers across the facade give an exceptional flow to the surface, these veneers clearly of a quality superior to most 20th Century reproductions. Each drawer and door is framed with cockbead molding, all four corner spandrels an inlaid fan. The three drawers on the top and the pair of wine drawers on the lower half are hand dovetailed. Resting over four tapered legs, these are inlaid with bellflowers and a single band around the ankles. Preserved in simply gorgeous condition. A very fine antique. Circa 1920's, solid mahogany Louis XV style sideboard, the front drawers and sides with veneers and bands of parquet inlay, the sideboard front corners wth walnut burl. It is finely carved on legs, skirt, and stretchers with scrolling acanthus leaves. The straight back legs, and the center drawer, are fluted. The Belgian black marble top with beveled edge is fine without damage or repairs. It measures 7" 84" wide by 3'1" 37" tall by 23" deep. The sideboard has an open niche to the centre with frieze drawer above. This drawer is constructed with hand cut dovetail joints and benefits from having it's original swan neck handles. This is flanked by 2 cupboards. The left hand cupboard has a single shelf to the inside which is enclosed with a panel door complete with original handle and original working lock and key. The right hand cupboard has a slide drawer to the inside and again is enclosed with a panel door but this one has a later working lock. This stunning sideboard/dresser/buffet travelled from England to America with my parents when they moved here in the 1970's. And took pride of place in their home for the remainder of their lives. It is now time to liquidate their assets, and pass on the pleasure of ownership of such a beautiful and versatile piece to someone who appreciates the beauty, history and craftsmanship of high quality furniture. It is made of mahogany, with beautifully carved embellishments and a gorgeous, flawless large focal mirror. The bottom section has six dove-tailed drawers, and the top section consists of a large focal mirror flanked on each side by two small shelves. Above the main mirror is another shelf, ab ove which is a smaller mirror. Both mirrors have bevelled edges. Most likely made by the Drexel or Bernhardt Furniture Company. ... moreIt’s a bit different because it’s in a brown mahogany stain instead of the reddish-brown. The top has been re-sprayed to reveal the gorgeous grains in the fine veneers used. The front is all flame mahogany on the dovetail drawers, paneled drawers, and the straight drawers. All the drawers are dovetail, and the outside top drawers are both velvet lined. The left-hand drawer is divided for silverware. The four middle drawers are all curved front, dovetailed, and have beautiful matched flame mahogany veneer. They all have heavy cast-brass hardware, and the piece has a fancy cutout base. It also has a gadroon carved molded edge across the breakfront design of the entire sideboard. The overall size is 63 inches wide, 23 inches at the deepest point. And 36 inches tall. The large lower 2 drawers are veneered with stunning burled/flame mahogany. Notice the awesome black wood tones mixed into the burled mahogany grains. These colors are all natural. The finish I used was many, many coats of hand rubbed varnish over the birdseye maple and the mahogany for the gorgeous natural finish you see which protects the wood and brings out the wonderful grains and textures.The trim along the lower edge of the side panels is a custom addition. I finished all of the mahogany drawer bottoms with many. Many coats of hand rubbed varnish. The upper left drawer I lined with royal blue velvet just for show.
