This Early Empire sideboard or server is rare. And the combination of woods is striking in appearance. The piece was made in the South, and located in the state of Tennessee. The top is composed of tiger maple, the center drawers are birds eye maple veneer, the drawer fronts are walnut, the doors are mahogany veneer. The back splash is of the original painted striped design. The sides have a cherry wash. The knobs are opaque glass. The secondary woods are poplar and pine. HUGE 12' Antique HEAVILY Carved & Detailed Mahogany Wood Sideboard / Bar, Gothic
We picked this breath-taking piece up recently with the intentions of putting it in our new house we are building. However. Plans have recently changed to a more modern, clean design and unfortunately this piece will no longer fit in with the look we are going for. I truly hate to let it go. But I just don't have any way to tie this in. Here is the information I can give you on this beautiful unit. As unfortunately I do NOT know it's full history. I lucked into finding this at an incredible estate sale. I am by NO MEANS a professional at describing the details/figures featured in this. So bare with me. there is so much to take in that it's hard to see all of the beautiful details at once, so I will attempt to point out as much as possible! First things first- This is a MASSIVE piece. It stands at 12 ft high. 8 feet long and about ... more3 feet deep. The unit is very Gothic in nature. And the details in the hand carving are absolutely incredible. There are grotesque figures and griffin's all throughout the piece- there are 10 Lion or possibly Tiger carved figure heads that look almost like pillars on the sides and up the middle- there are 2 grotesque faces(I had one person refer to it as the"Man of The North" Another said he felt they were some type of medeival gorillas- your guess is as good as mine! in the upper top corners with feathers/wings surrounding the faces. There are 2 horse-like figures(Pegasus' maybe? on the very top of the unit. When viewed from the side, you will also notice that even inside the openings there is carving as well. almost every inch of this unit is hand carved, other than inside the cabinet doors and the back. I've tried to take close ups of the actual figures as well to showcase the detail in the faces. The bottom of the unit features(4) hinged doors that open. Simple. Classical, and timeless mahogany piece from the mid-to-late 1800s that can serve as a sideboard, buffet, or library table. The top is one solid plank of mahogany, 21 1/4" by 45 3/4" by 1 1/8" deep; there is a old crack on one end(see picture) It stands 31 3/8" tall. The frame has two large drawers. 19 3/8" across by 5 1/8" deep, with, I believe, pine interiors and the original turned wood handles. The legs also are beautifully turned have brass end caps with wheels(replacements) The piece has its original finish; in other words.It has not been refinished, and it boasts a beautiful rich color. It's in excellent antique condition, with the usual small scratches and divets from use. A very fine antique. Circa 1910, Edwardian Sheraton style inlay mahogany sideboard. One piece construction. The top has a pillared shelf over a beveled mirror, the cornice with inlay urn and ribboned bellflower garlands. The two doors have inlay ribbed urns with scroll handles. Original brass pulls with patina, includes all locks and the key. The left door needs sanding at top as it fits too tightly. All drawer interiors are mahogany. Sideboard measures 5'4" 64" tall by 5'6" 66" wide by 2' 24" deep. Very good plus condition: original finish, no cracks or chips, top surface of sideboard and shelf without ring spots. Circa 1850. The chiffonier boasts an elongated original mirrored back with a moulded frame and stunning carved central pediment depicting a pheasant interspersed in a floral frame. Flanking the central pediment are two carved supports, which sit on top of the frame. Below this, the mirrored frame features two carved corbels. The frame terminated on raised shaped panels. The mirrored back is attached to the base with screws, which means the chiffonier can be used with or without the mirror. The single piece top base consists of two large pedestals with two smaller central doors below a cushion-moulded drawer. All four doors boast inset moulded mahogany panels. Elegant floral round rosette carvings adorn the frame of the chiffonier base. The chiffonier comes with the original working locks and a key to the two central doors and two large pedestal doors. For auction is this really nice sideboard. It appears to be made of Mahogany. Perfect, Unusual Gold convex mirrors on doors, 16 1/2 x 10 inches. I believe it is in really good shape for being old. I have had it about thirty years. 61 inches wide. 18 inches deep, and 36 1/2 inches high. Red Leather top with gold trim(99% perfect) I do not know what to call this side board. It is very heavy but we were not able to weigh. This sideboard cabinet is almost 60" long and sits 36" tall from bent wood sloped front countertop surface which is 19" wide by 59" long. There is a decorative crown molding on back edge of counter top- this edge is about 1 6/8" tall. This buffet sideboard cabinet has 4 drawers and two cabinets with doors. We are consigning this item for a very sweet older gentleman that wants to downsize. He is very particular about the care of his furniture. It has been well cared for and still includes the key. This is a nice size for a smaller area, could also double as a desk. In the 1970 before moving from Georgia an estimate was done on the value of this piece which was $2000. Maryland, 20th Century Item# 412QXR08S This is an exquisite reproduction sideboard by the Potthast Brothers furniture firm. Established in the mid 19th century and renowned for their exceptional quality and benchmade construction. This is a very fine example, quite angular with clean undistracted lines. A single drawer in the center retains it's original stamped brass bail pulls, opening to reveal a felt upholstered interior(remaining in excellent condition) and the Potthast branding. The drawer is hand dovetailed along the front and back corners, the bottom of the drawer machine chamfered along the edges and set in grooves with small supporting blocks. Beneath the drawer are a pair of cupboard doors, opening to reveal a shelved interior. This is flanked ... moreby full height cupboard doors on the right and left, each veneered with vibrant crotch-mahogany. Each leg is inlaid with a complex patera oval with rectangular double-stringer inlays over the hanging bellflowers that flow down the tapered leg. These terminate in perfect spade feet. Here is an absolutely delightful large antique empire style sideboard or buffet with gorgeous flame mahogany veneers. Columns with detailed carving above and below with very detailed fabulous carved lion's feet on the front legs. The large lovely cabinet has a really nice top surface with a number of faint or light scratches but no major gauges, stains, chips or other serious damage to the top as I attempt to show in my photographs. It is a somewhat oversize functional piece of furniture and perfect for a front entry hall, hallway, dining room or any room in your home or business. It has three drawers and three large open cabinets with lots of extra storage in a classic 19th century empire style sideboard in very nice condition and ready to make a statement in your home or office. The original metal hardware is all intact and sort of ... morea floral, perhaps a peony, in shape and are attached through into recessed holes within the drawers as shown. This mahogany piece features hard to find curved. Beveled glass on the 2 side display cabinets, center beveled mirror, side entry to the display cabinets, ample storage in 3 drawers, 2 doors, and a swing down center door. Acquired from a reputable Orange County antique dealer in 1977, the piece is thought to be circa 1900. Beautiful, substantial statement piece, 85 in. wide, 67.5 high, 27.5 deep, the 2 front Greek columns pop out making it possible to move the top and bottom of the piece separately. Beautiful early burl flame mahogany server. Very unusual styled piece with curved front drawers. Doors and sides. The two doors have solid brass bail pulls. The drawer's secondary wood is oak with fine hand cut dovetails. Please notice that the sides of the drawers are very thin; a sign of high quality craftsmanship. The drawer bottoms slide in place are hand planed and champered. The double doors have brass key escutcheons. The left door also has a brass bolt lock. The drawers and doors have burled flame mahogany with a deep rich patina. The interior is divided in the middle with the right side having a shelf. Each exterior side is curved. A 19th century English brandy board in mahogany veneer with oak secondary. With three drawers(one cellarette) and one cabinet door. It measures just shy of 34" tall, about 44-7/8" wide, and about 20-1/4" deep. There are remnants of a paper label, but we do not know the maker. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use, including some dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. There is some loss to the veneer(most notably on the front to the right hand side on the top edge and the edge of the left front foot) There is also a drying line on the left side of the piece(pictured) It also looks like parts of the bottom may have been replaced/refinished.
