Antique Belgian Carved Oak Buffet / Sideboard
I have owned this beautiful oak sideboard for about 10 years. It is in nice shape with the original finish. It has a few minor condition issues(see photos) Nothing serious. Measures 86 1/2 inches wide, 23 1/4 inches deep, and 51 inches tall. It is made to come apart. So it is much easier to move than it appears. My Father told me it was common for old furniture to come apart in northern Europe as stairways and doors were often narrow. The family I bought it from purchased it in the 1950's from a friend who imported antiques from Belgium. They used it as a store fixture(it has a check guarantee bank sticker on the back) and later in their home. No shipping on this item. You will need to pick it up at my house in Portland. This piece has gorgeous grain and still retains its original DARK finish. Has two smaller drawers across the top and one large drawer across the middle. And cabinet with two doors below- all with original wooden knobs. Columns/pillars on either side of the mirror. It is in very good/excellent condition with some normal wear on the feet. Some small scuffs on the top(nothing major- the worst is shown) small nicks and scratches here and there, and the cabinet doors each need a latch. Otherwise great with maybe some dust. It's not too bad but as expected, you'd probably want to clean it to your liking before using it. The drawers have keyholes/key holes. I might have the ... morekey lying around- will have to check. We are pleased to offer to the market this beautiful antique sideboard. Made from Victorian oak this piece dates to the late 1800's ~ early 1900's. The piece measures 71" high at the back center. It has a width of 44" at the top of the work surface and a height of 36" to the top of the work surface. The depth is 22.25" The top boasts a large center mirror flanked by shelves on either side that extend out to columns that support a large upper shelf. The fronts of the columns have carved leaf designs. The top above the shelf has applied carved acanthus leaf scrolls. There is also a variation of this design on the doors below. Under the work station there are two small drawers atop a full width large drawer. The drawers all have dove tail construction. There are cabinet doors that open below the drawers affording ... moremore storage. There are some age and use appropriate scratches and dings on this piece and some light staining on the top. Circa 1940 Oak Barley twist turnings Excellent condition, This tall and beautiful antique Welsh dresser will make a statement in any room! The gorgeous barley twist columns and stretchers combine with the oak wood to make a magnificent piece of furniture. The oak wood has a really beautiful medium brown color and a gorgeous grain. There are so many wonderful features to point out on this Welsh dresser that we will start from the top and work our way down. At the very top is a moulded crown with some carved detail below it. Two long barley twist columns ... morerun down the shelf section and end in carved balusters. The three shelves feature plate grooves(for standing up plates) and are 5″ deep. Some nicely carved arches decorated the middle back panel just below the last shelf. As we move down the piece. The cabinet section features two doors and three drawers. The cabinet doors lock with one included key. The left cabinet has a removable shelf and the right has a drawer inside. The top drawer in the middle is sectioned into 3 areas and lined with felt. This felt inside this drawer is quite worn and missing in places and it should be replaced. Opulent detailing with dragons and classical urn motifs shows masterful artistry in solid fine grained oak. Drawers have solid mahogany sides with hand cut dovetail joints and original embossed bronze hardware. Original mirrors have a little antique smoke and flaws to show their age. The top has been revarnished for durability. The rest of the finish is original and has been waxed and buffed. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm luster. A straight cut top blends into the rolled front silverware and napkin drawers, curved front linen drawer, and bottom doors that conceal your finest china. The beautifully rolled legs go all the way down the sides for a majestic appearance. Brass knobs match brass key holes on all three drawers that lock away your special things for just the right occasion. One key fits all three drawers and it IS included. That's right, we DO have the original Eagle Lock Co. key! The silverware drawer ... moreis divided into three sections and is lined with the original green velvet. The napkin and linen drawers are not lined. The linen drawers offers tons of space so you can be sure all of your treasured tablecloths will fit. Two doors open on the bottom to reveal a large storage space that is more than adequate for your finest china. On the sides of the buffet you will find more gorgeous Tiger Oak and straight back legs that go from the top to the bottom of the buffet for a strong support. The back is finished with standard plywood and is original to the piece. Originally there was a top for the buffet but I do not have that piece, and to be quite honest I think the piece works much better with today's decor without the top. As you can see in the photos, the finish overall is nice, but it does have some nicks and chips in a few places, as can be expected with a piece that is almost 200 years old. It was refinished at some point. The discoloration on the sides is far less noticeable than it appears in the photos. Structurally, the buffet is in great shape, very strong. This is a 2 section piece with a removable mirror top. Item is structurally sound and in overall good condition. Two small veneer repairs were done prior to listing(shown) Bottom of the legs have light to moderate chips. Moderate side was depicted in the only picture shown. Mirror is secured well. This is an Antique Oak and Marble Top Sideboard dating from the 1800s. The marble top measures 45 inches across and 19 5/8 inches from front to back. The sideboard is 78 1/2 inches high. The door on the right needs to be rehung. There are 3 beveled edged mirrors on the top. The middle mirror is stationary. The mirrors on each side of the middle mirror can be tilted inward. The lighter pictures are caused by the camera flash. This is a beauty that I have owned for many years and now must sell. This is available for local pickup only.
