The whole heavily decorated with figures. The two doors on the right part of the sideboard having two carved figures in the center. One of a monk, the other of a nobleman. They are both looking at each other. The left side of the sideboard has two doors, one a carved figure of a queen, the other a nun. All of these were of high social status in midieval Europe and thus these figures are placed above a multitude of carved figures depicting the serfs or commoners. Authentic antique french XVI style gilt marble-top console sideboard table stand
Measures 33 1/2" tall X 44 1/2" wide/long X 12" deep. White removable marble slab is 3/4" thick. This is an antique from probably before 1900 made in the Louis XVI style. It belonged to my great grandmother who lived to be 100 and died close to 20 years ago. I have included a photo of similar items(although not old and do not have detail and without marble) which sold on One Kings Lane recently. One for over $3,000. I inherited this buffet/cabinet/sideboard. So please forgive me for my lack on knowledge on this beautifully handcrafted piece of furniture. I was told that it came from France. Condition: The top of furniture is secured by a peg system. The center of the wood is cracked lengthwise and is not even. In the moving process. The two front feet got chipped/damaged. There is normal wear and tear but would be expected on an item of this age. There is no back to this buffet/cabinet/sideboard. There are three cabinets with one adjustable shelf per cabinet. Absolutely gorgeous antique French? Shabby chic, country sideboard or buffet cabinet made of oak. A real gem& stunning. There is one large drawer with 2 knobs, which has a removable inset to divide the drawer into 2 sections. There appear to have been one or two further insets which are no longer there. The cupboard has 2 shelves.I have painted the exterior(excluding back) and the interior of the doors in 3 coats of Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint& then tastefully distressed it to highlight the beautiful carvings& to give it a shabby chic look. It has then been given a good coat of Annie Sloan clear wax to preserve it for many years to come.I have left the back in it's original condition(please see pictures to see raised splits which do not affect the solid craftsmanship) to maintain the history of the item. The inside of ... morethe large drawer& 2 shelves have also been untouched. The thick oak shelves are lovely& have been beautifully made. The servery top has a marble slab insert, in brown, cream and grey colourway, and a small raised shelf on beautifully carved and turned supports. This oak marble-topped washstand or dressing table has a beautiful, slightly shaped mirror with original bevelled glass, marble surface with a raised shelf, and delightful bow and laurel applied ... morecarved detail. This gorgeous. Mellow piece is definitely antique, and we would date it to c1880. Constructed of oak. This piece is beautifully proportioned, and has loads of features that give it great appeal. Mellow in tone and with its original patina, this washstand or dressing table features a base with two drawers and two doors which open to a large cupboard with a single, fixed shelf. The centre section of the washstand has a marble surface. In white with grey vein lines, and an additional raised marble shelf standing on shaped marble supports. The mirror section at the top is supported by cut rope style decorative edges. And features a timber surround with beautiful bow and laurel decoration. Which is repeated on the cupboard doors of the base. The washstand presents with a well polished natural patina, without artificial shine. This wonderfully versatile antique piece measures approximately 116.5cm wide. And stands approximately 205cm high. Condition is excellent antique condition- the piece is largely untouched. Carved Fruitwood 1700's Antique Country French Provincial Sideboard or Buffet. This wonderful Country French or Provincial sideboard or buffet was hand hewn and carved in the mid to early 1700's. Solid wormy fruitwood and walnut are well worn and have a rich old finish with warm antique patina. Wrought brass hardware and lift off iron hinges appear original on this imposing rustic furniture from southern France. Three drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms. Behind the doors is a later shelf. There are remnants of old wallpaper lining. As is typical, feet were rebuilt many years ago on this historic cabinet.
