I am going to do my best to describe this antique ... morebrass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has a round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

Here is a great older metal microscope from Bausch& Lomb for your buying consideration. Recently picked it up at an auction. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! The Bausch& Lomb microscope scope and the lens and objective case and dials are made of metal. The black painted part of the microscope stand is in very good shape. The eye lenses are a 5x and 10x. Nice slide guide that would hold the specimen for smooth movement across the working area. An extra Spencer piece that would go down near the mirror. There are no dates noted on the microscope or accessories. The serial number of 16033-185 is on the microscope. The microscope is probably from the mid 1920s to early ... more1930s. The mirror at the bottom of the scope is two sided. Not cracked or blistered, the mirrored surface does show some wear(loose from stand) The glass for the lens and objective are dusty and may have some minor scratching. I see no blistered cracked or missing glass in the lenses or objectives. The microscope is 12.5" tall. By 7" across, by 9" wide. Nice what appears to be the original wood case. The wood case is intact, still has its' lock, and the key that works it. There is a slide drawer holding all the eye lenses and then a drawer on the right side that has nothing in it but holes to hold some accessories. There is also a metal box the has a blue shade that is electrified. Also a plastic cover that can be put over the microscope when it is out of the case. The objectives are a Spencer 2x. 8(2) a B&L 10X and a B&L 43x. Handle is still on the top of the case. Great etching into the metal body and plate of the name of the company. Vintage Bausch& Lomb Microscope. Made in Rochester NY. Model BB and based on the serial number. Was made in 1902. In great shape, does have some areas with pitting in the metal(on the base) Comes in a beautiful original wooden box with key, lock still works. Please message with any questions. Vintage Antique 1908 Jug Handle model Bausch & Lomb Co Microscopes with Case
Very cool early Jug Handle 1900's Bausch and Lomb Microscope with variable light adjustment. There are 3 eye pieces with this microscope and all are in good condition but need cleaning. The microscope stands just at 14 inches tall when focused on an image. etc. All knobs are smooth and it is an operating microscope that can be used still. I was amazed when I put a pre prepared slide on it and adjusted the mirror for the light to come through. It lit up the subject great. A light filter on this one that adjusts to control the amount of light coming through the subject slide. Please not that the case is missing the lock mechanism and the top of the wood box has been broken and re-glued. It still looks great though with the microscope. Also there are 3 eye pieces one is on the microscope. There are also 3 screw top metal containers marked ... morewith the company logo but there is nothing in them. Vintage 1883 Bausch & Lomb Microscope in Original Case - Very Rare. Serial #2165
Vintage 19th century Bausch& Lomb Microscope. Very rare and early model. With an extremely unusual design. This was made for the Arthur H Thomas Company. I researched the very low serial number of 2165 and it indicates a manufacture date of 1883! I discovered this item at a farm estate sale, and the family members only thought their father had bought it at a state liquidation sale decades before, and remember him using it from time to time. I am not an expert at microscopes and may not use the exact terminology, but I will do my best. I have been told this was a"comparison microscope" but cannot confirm that information. It certainly is very different from any other microscope that I have ever seen. Many of the components are made from brass, cast or stamped metal. It appears to have been well maintained, and has no major damage ... morethat I can see. I have not cleaned the lenses, and only given the outside a very gentle cleaning to remove dust. There are two hexagonal focusing prisms which work independently of each other, and are fully functional through their designed range of operation. The left and right focusing knobs move freely, with circular brass slide holders. Mirror rotates freely and is intact, but clouded. It has a removable steel lens cover. Original dovetail joint wooden box with functional hinge and clasp. It has normal wear, with surface scratches/chips and one burn mark at the top corner of the box(see pictures) I have no slides or other items with the microscope, other that what is seen in the pictures. REVISION: I have revised my original posting. After receiving an email with additional information about this item. See below. This was made by Bausch& Lob for the Arthur H Thomas Company. Serial number 2165. I discovered this item at a farm estate sale. And the family members only thought their father had bought it at a state liquidation sale decades before, and said they remember him using it. This item is a" Duboscq Colorimeter" Colorimeters are used to determine the concentrations of substances by measuring color intensities. The DuBoscq type of colorimeter works by comparing the colors of two solutions of a colored substance, a standard with a known concentration, and a sample with an unknown concentration. VINTAGE ANTIQUE JUG HANDLE MODEL BAUSCH & LOMB CO. MICROSCOPE WITH CASE
I happen to own a very cool and keenly designed early Jug Handle 1900's Bausch and Lomb Microscope with variable light adjustment mirror on the bottom that can be flipped to amplify light even more. As you can tell there is only one top focal piece which does not seem to be removable or stationary at any position but can easily be raised or lowered. The lower magnifiers are easily switched by turning the mechanism either to the right or left. At present the microscope sits a 11.5 inches but can as high as 14 inches. The items seems to never have been professionally polished and has what appears to be blued iron with brass. The item could clean up really well if you are into that sort of thing. All knobs are smooth and appears to be operational. I have peered down through the whole but have not tried to focus in on anything currently. ... moreBut I can see that there are no major obstructions to doing so. Below the platen, is an aperture control such as the shutter on a camera. It seems to be functional, but is a bit bent slightly at the closed position from a bit of misuse or old age. The Case- Seems to be the original case and is made purely out of some kind of hard wood but can not be totally for sure. If you look closely at the finish. It seems to have set out in a moist area for some time and allow the case to mildew which has dicolored the varnish a bit. Looking at the front, it appears that there is a small label that says Microscope, yet is hard to make out. Some clown, at some time, decided that he'd be a wise guy and appeared to have slightly carved a larger spelling of Microscope on to the wood but is barely noticeable, but I wanted to mention that. The lock mechanism seems to be intact but there is no key. Baucsh& Lomb must have been in Rochester. NY because I can see it on the lower magnifying lenses which also can be removed for examination or replacement. Inside the case. There seems to be some kind of area that would hold more lenses, but I am not able to remove or jar the wood holder away from

What a great find. Looks like a beautiful museum piece. For it's age I would say condition is decent. Microscope moves and appears to function but the lens are dirty and need to be cleaned. To be fully functional I would believe it needs a good thorough cleaning/ oiling ect. It appears to be mostly complete. Pictures show the different lens and eyepieces that are included. The wooden case has some wear. It has a crack on one side but is still solid and working. The lock is broken and appears the key broke off inside of it. For this item please inspect and study the images as they are your best description. There should be no need for returns but as an antique item like this it sells for AS IS. On the inside of the door are 8 custom holders containing 3 lens cases for the microscope lenses and one of the eyepieces. One of those holders is either missing or is meant to fix something else. You can see in the pictures a small crack on one of the back corners. 1& 2 Eyepieces and 2/3. 1/6& 1/12 lenses. The#1 eyepiece + 1/12 lens gives a 900x magnification. It features a single B&L signed Series 1 1/6 objective lens as well as its original signed eye piece. Interesting design does not feature turn knobs but rather a sliding tube for coarse adjustment. This antique Bausch and Lomb DDH 8 model microscope has a serial number that dates the instrument's manufacture to 1907. It features a triple nosepiece with three B&L signed objective lens as well as a revolving mechanical stage with degree measurement. This piece came with a price tag of $165 back in 1907 which was equal to $4.125 in today's dollars! Vintage 1919 Bausch & Lomb Jug Handle 2 Objective Lens Microscope Serial #139747
Up for auction is Vintage 1919 Bausch& Lomb Jug Handle 2 Objective Lens Microscope Serial#139747. The date was determined by the serial number and corresponding manufacture date from Bausch& Lomb website. It was made in Rochester. NY. There are two objective lenses– 4mm and 16mm. There is a coarse and fine focus. All parts turn smoothly including the diaphragm. Mirror, fine focus and objective lenses which click into position like the day it was built. The microscope has not been tested or fine tuned and nothing appears broken. Condition Issues: Concave mirror is in good condition with two little spots. Flat mirror has about 40% of the mirror spotted. Cast iron base shows corrosion and most of the black paint has flaked off. Stage clips are taught but can move freely and show slight corrosion. Diaphragm opens and closes freely. Fine ... moreand coarse focus move freely. Objective lenses move freely. Body shows black enamel wear above‘Bausch& Lomb Optics’ where a tag was stuck by a technician back in 1941 who reconditioned the unit– I’ll include this if it matters to anyone– not shown in images. NO RESERVE.This is an ANTIQUE Bausch& Lomb Brass Microscope.This is an unusual scope with a LARGE 2 inch diameter barrel and elaborate round stage and slide adjuster.It is likely a professional microscope and has numerous lens and filters under the stage.It is Serial No. 64265 which dates it around 1907.
