ANTIQUE BRASS DOUBLE PILLAR MICROSCOPE– THE“LIBRARY MICROSCOPE” WITH CAMERA L UCIDA& DOVETAILED WOOD CASE- CIRCA ... more1886 You are invited to purchase an antique double pillar lacquered brass and black lacquered metal compound microscope called the“Library Microscope” along with a very nice dovetailed wood case that houses the instrument. The Bausch& Lomb Optical Company of Rochester. New York manufactured this microscope for the Philadelphia based scientific supply company of James W. Queen& Co. Due to the fact that Queen& Co. was the distributor of the instrument. The microscope is signed in block letters on the rear of the stage, JAS. W. QUEEN& CO. PHILADELPHIA” see close-up images) The fact that Bausch& Lomb was the manufacturer is indicated on the underside of the tripod foot with just the initials. B&L” along with a number“7” and also a larger number“20. It is unclear if either or both of these numbers are serial numbers or simply part numbers(see images) It is estimated that this instrument was most likely manufactured in circa 1886. Bausch& Lomb first introduced this model microscope in the year 1878. Just a few years after Ernst Gundlach joined the company as its chief optician and optical designer. This model microscope first appeared in Bausch& Lomb’s 1
Antique Henry Crouch Microscope 4168 London James W Queen & Co Philadelphia
Antique Henry Crouch Microscope Model 4168 London James W Queen& Co Philadelphia Brass and Metal Here is an old microscope for your consideration. Recently picked it up at an auction. This piece is probably from the 1860s to late 1880s. The microscope was made by Henry Crouch of London and then distributed in the US by James W. Queen& Co. of Philadelphia. PA. The screw to adjust the focus still works and moves freely. The brass and metal certainly show wear and corrosion. However. No major pitting, dings, or dents, so perfect for those of you out there that restore them to their former glory. The tabs to hold the glass slide are still on it. Mirror in the bottom piece is there, but has some damage to the bottom side, not cracked but what happens to mirrors when they lose their back plating over time. Appears you can see a ring of ... morethe bras piece the mirror sets in. Obviously the scope has become detached from the base. Appears that it was probably some sort of solder or glue connection. So no major issue to correct there. The glass is still in both ends of the scope and I see no blistering or cracking of the lenses. Certainly are scratched. The scope body extends freely as well and can be seen in both positions in the pics. The case is certainly not an original case for this piece. Just something someone put it in to protect it at some point. It is 12.5" long, by 7.25" tall, by 6.25" wide. Some information on James W. Cropuch from the Antique Artifacts site(different font) Queen. Born in 1813, began working for the McAllister Brothers, in Philadelphia, as a boy, around 1825. From 1836 to 1852 he was a partner in the McAllister business, leaving finally to start his own company to sell optical instruments. While Queen& Co. sold a great variety of microscopes by other makers, their catalogs and other literature emphatically suggested that they also made microscopes. I have a Queen's"Large Family Microscope" unsigned, but unmistakably illustrated in their catalog of the early

Vtg Antique James W. Queen & Co Philadelphia Brass Microscope with Carrying Case
Antique James W. Queen& Co Philadelphia Brass Microscope with Carrying Wood Case Up for auction is an antique brass microscope manufactured by James W. Queen& Co of Philadelphia. It comes with the original carrying wood case. I am not familiar with microscopes to accurately describe it's completeness or operational condition. This appears to be missing some eye piece and maybe other parts. There is a stamp on the microscope that reads"Queen Phil" and a number"3" is stamped on the opposite side. The carrying case has a paper tag regarding James W. Queen Co. The box measures approximately 6" X 6 1/2" and 12" high. The box has some damage. A piece of wood missing, no latch or key and shows wear. The brass on the metal shows corrosion and I am not certain if this is all brass. Please see photos for ... morecondition and completeness. Note: We can provide additional photographs. International Buyers: We ship to limited number of countries. Please check with us regarding shipping costs before bidding.

This beautiful brass instrument was manufactured by Bausch& Lomb. C. 1890, and sold under a number of brand names. This particular instrument has"QUEEN& CO. PHILADELPHIA" engraved on the brass stage. It has a swinging tailpiece with plano mirror which is gimballed but cannot slide up and down the tailpiece. This was part of the Bausch& Lomb Professional series. And marketed as the Library model, a microscope of solid and basic construction. Entry level collectible for anyone who wants to get started in collecting microscopes or scientific instruments. It's also a very nice display piece in its own right. It's been in my possession since the 80's and has been inside the case for most of the time I've had it. Microscope is 9" high. Fully extended 10.25" high. The extension tube on the objective lens is shorter than I have seen in other photos; I don't know the magnification. Comes with original box.
