An interesting little small microscope of the Coddington lens type. This is made from a white metal. With a nice ebonised wood handle It is a simple microscope ... morebut magnifies to a very large size. I would think this dates to the Edwardian period. Maybe up to the 1920's. The item measures 4.75 inches(12.4 cm) long. The lens itself is about 1.25 inches( about 3 cm) across. The microscope seems to be in good condition. Although there is a little dust to the lenses, and some light wear to the white metal. The piece is a real find. A simply wonderful rare piece to add to a collection of scientific items or microscopes. Very evocative of a time when gentlemen were keen to indulge in scientific studies. NACHET ET FILS ANTIQUE BRASS MICROSCOPE RARE ANTIQUE EXAMPLE BRASS
I state first- I am up and don't really live or sleep on the sale of this item but it is a sweet microscope so control the nerdgasim. As far as I can see its all there- see the pictures for yourself- no cleaning in decades. I didn't look through it but all looks well on the piece- the box fits the microscope perfect and the brass shines like the first day of summer. so this is what I know about the piece. It is a NACHET ET FILS OF Paris Antique circa 1870 brass compound Microscope that is roughly 150 years old- give or take a decade. This is kinda a big deal as you are invited to purchase a very fine antique brass compound monocular microscope by Nachet et Fils of Paris along with a very nicely appointed Mahogany case that houses the instrument and accompanying parts- as far as I can see all parts. It is a Nachet’s“Petit Modele Droit” ... moreSmall Vertical Model) compound monocular microscope by best estimate. This is signed on the top rear of the solid brass foot. NACHET ET FILS, 17 Rue St. Severin, Paris. see photo)The microscope seems in exceptional shape- see photos. The address allows us to date the instrument to circa 1870. NOTE: For more details on the history of the Nachet product just search- this is a deal- if you look up things like"brass microscope" or“Maison Nachet et Fils Fabrique” tell me I am wrong- walk in a store that deals in vintage microscopes and leave with something like this for less than 2 grand- seriously- I move product- they will have a romantic involvement with this nerd focuser. So how do I put it- this thing is complete- all parts are there(see pictures) and there are a small window of these things existing. $799 plus $25 shipping and its out the door- a hell of a deal- I wish more people would appreciate the importance of this pieces.

50 ANTIQUE MICROSCOPE SLIDES W BOX HENSOLDT WETZLAR 1880S? GERMANY VERY RARE
0 0 1 473 2701 The Associated Press 22 6 3168 14.0 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This is a very interesting estate sale find. And it is in remarkably good condition. The black box contains 50“Microscopical Preparations” slides, including diatoms of various things like“The Tongue of a Snail, or"The Abdomen of a Bee. The best I’ve been able to determine, these slides became popular in the mid-1800s, and had something of a heyday in the 1880s or so. The case is in very good condition. Though i t has some scuffs- included in photos. The two front hook latches close into a circular catch. It says“Microscopical Preparations” and Hensoldt/Wetzlar/Germany with the Wetzlar logo. It also says Hensoldt/Wetzlar/Germany on the right side of all the slides. Some of the slides have a black circle encasing the specimen and others have a ... moreraised top over the specimen. Hensoldt is a German microscope maker. I have seen some slides online with“M. Hensoldt” on it. With the same sort of paper, dated to about 1880 or so. These slides without the“M. for Moritz, the founder) may be a little later, though they use the same paper and style, so my guess is that they are of that same era. One of the few mentions I found during my research of the Hensoldt slides indicated that a famous British slide-preparer had actually purchased his slides from M. Hensoldt. Took the Hensoldt papers off of them, and then put his own name on them to sell mostly because of the maker's products superior quality. I say 50 slides– but there is actually one of them that appears to be a blank without a specimen on it. None of them appear to be cracked or chipped. I have attached a list of what is written on each slide- the best that I could determine– the writing on them is very nice. But it is also very small! 1. Wing of Butterfly. Alla popilioris 2. Clapergillus glaricus 3. Spinning of caterpillar. Bombyn mori 4. Petalum cumpilis snellatin. Dcutvia 5. Crystals in cello. Allium sativum 6. Pollen pini 7. Sting of wasp. Aculeus vaspae 8

Rare Antique Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Microscope Wow! *
This is a fantastic piece found at an estate sale where the resident was a University Professor and Scientist. The microscope has the booklet but was not in a box rather was set up as display in his Study. It was his prize piece. I am not sure of the age but the Use and Care of the Microscope booklet was was copyright 1912. It is very nice. It was well used as seen in the photos and is sold as found. It s accompanied by the Care and Use booklet. A lens container and a box with a slide in it. I believe this to be quite old. It does have a serial number of 25408 is what I make out. All of the mechanics seem to airlock fine and it has the attach oh meet below the slide table. It has wonderful worn patina. All the adjusting tools work and it has a dual head lens keeper on it. Completely relaxed it measures about 13 inches in overall height and ... morethe lens chamber has about 3" of height up and down adjustment. This is a cool high quality piece. A must have for any collector!

RARE Antique Brass Pasteur-Chamberland Filter Company No. 56618-Dayton, Ohio
What a piece of history! I found this while rummaging through an old antique warehouse that just went out of business after its owner retired. This filter appears to be made of brass which is heavily tarnished and green in places. It measures about 12 ½” long and about 3 ¾” in diameter. The bottom does come off(unscrews) and I’ve pictured what was inside. It has 3 long cylinders that appear to be made of a porous material– I’m guessing possibly porcelain from what I’ve read. Two of the cylinders are unfortunately broken. But luckily one remains intact. I have no idea what else might be missing, if anything. The brass label on the front of the tank reads the following: Filtre Chamberland Systeme Pasteur Brevete SGDG No. 56618 58 Rue ND de Lorette Paris Manufactured by Pasteur-Chamberland Filter Company Dayton. OH. USA Sole Licensee ... morefor the United States Canada& Mexico Patented Although I can’t find a date on this piece– I’m guessing it’s from the late 1880s or thereabouts from what I’ve read and researched. I just had to rescue this once I saw what it was and am hopeful it will find a good home. I did see that a somewhat similar item(a blowtorch) manufactured by the same company recently sold on eBay. So maybe some of those same folks will also be interested in this piece. It seems like it certainly belongs in a museum or with a mad scientist! As always– my shipping is FREE and FAST and I also provide a tracking#

ANTIQUE VERY RARE BRASS AQUARIUM MICROSCOPE, 1860's
I bought this antique aquarium microscope about 18 months ago from Professor Yuval Goren of the Tel Aviv University who is a collector of antique microscopes. I bought this to go along with my antique aquarium collection but since I have sold nearly all of them I no longer need/want this microscope to go along with the collection. Prof. Goren is a well respected professor of archaeology in Israel and sells some of the antique microscopes from his collection from time to time. Here is your chance to own one of these rare aquarium microscopes. It was also available with a sucker joint which I've included an illustration. I will also include the original description by Prof. Goren of the microscope: Offered for auction is an extremely rare brass. Iron and wood aquarium microscope, made by Collins of London, dating to the second half of the ... more19 th century. The microscope is attached to an attractive stand made of cast iron with a wooden handle and an attractive Y-shaped base in the form of dog's legs. The microscope is connected by a compass joint to a brass pole that slides into a holder attached to the stand. However. This micoscope is known to be connected also to a sucker joint that can be connected to the glass of an aquarium, as seen in the engraving(not included in this listing) copied from the Journal of the Royal Microscopic Society of 1882. Though the microscope is unsigned, according to this reference it was made by C. Collins of 77 Great Titchfield Street, London(1860s) The company moved in 1875 to 157 Great Portland Street in London. The company was closed in ca. 1890. Aquarium microscopes were used to observe aquatic organisms in an aquarium. Magnifications can be changed by a draw tube. Untypically connected to the objective(rather than the eyepiece) side of the tube. The microscope is in very good optical and cosmetic condition for the age. The brass is only lightly stained. The optics are in excellent condition and the microscope provides surprisingly high quality images. In all, this is a ver

Rare Antique C18th Microscope 6 position lens objective ( Jones Most Improved?)
Very rare multiple lens antique microscope objective. With six lenses that are rotated into position in the brass box. With a number indicating the selection in a small window(marked 1 to 6) Estimated to date from mid-late 18th Century. Please see description and diagram of pages describing the Jones Improved and Most Improved microscope on plate IV from the George Adams Jr. 1787 publication Essays on the Microscope. This 6 way objective appears to be item"P" described here. Although I do not know for sure if it came with this particular make compendium or another early microscope compendium. Excerpt from"Essays on the Microscope" Adams, 1787, p95: There are six magnifying lenses contained in a brass wheel screwed in a circular brass box P; this wheel is- moveable about its center with the finger. And stops by a click ... morewhen the magnifiers are each centrally under the body A B above. Or the hole in the arm CD. They are marked from No. l. To 6, and the proper number shewn in a small opening made in the side of the brass box. This wheel P screws into the arm C D. And may occasionally be taken off to admit of the silver speculum. Or a single magnifier. Hereafter to be described.
RARE MINIATURE ANTIQUE BRASS BERTRAND MICROSCOPE CIRCA 1840
Bertrand"Furnace-Style" Microscope Pocket Field Microscope. Often referred to as a furnace type microscope. This finely detailed miniature was designed by Bertrand and stands a mere 3.0 inches tall. There is a similar model measuring 4 1/2 inches tall and is part of the Billings microscope collection at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. Manufactured in France, circa 1839, the compound monocular microscope is comprised of only the most basic features. Specimens were placed atop a fixed circular stage positioned beneath the objective. Slides were held in position by sliding the movable shield down onto the slide and securing it with the milled screws on either side, I have added photos showing the shield in both positions) A pivotal mirror is housed in the lower cut-away portion of the stand and is perhaps the reason that ... morethis model is also known as a furnace type microscope. Angle of reflection for the illumination was manipulated by turning the milled-head screw that is attached to the 5/8-inch mirror. I have included a photo of the standard size microscope along side the miniature for comparison. This would make a great additon to any microscope collection, don't miss this opportunity!

ANTIQUE RARE GUNDLACH CLAW FOOT MICROSCOPE CIRCA 1902
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ANTIQUE RARE GUNDLACH CLAW FOOT MICROSCOPE CIRCA 1902 This Gundlach Microscope appears to be a student microscope and is labeled on the stage Gundlach Manhattan Optical company. Rochester NY. A brass and twin pillar iron base microscope with a convex mirror and with wheel stops with 4 different apertures. It comes with a Bausch& Lomb objective 8mm.50. 21X and a15X B&L eyepiece. There is a number 12 on the base of one of the claw feet. Dimension are 5" x 5" and a height of 11" to 13" Based on the signature. I estimate its production date to be ~ 1902. GUNDLACH BACKGROUND Gundlach was born in 1834 and emigrated to America in 1872. Already a well known and accomplished optician. His objectives were considered among the best, especially when cost was a consideration and ... morewere already being sold in this country by Queen& Co. In 1876, Gundlach went to work for Bausch& Lomb, in Rochester, making many contributions to the emerging Bausch& Lomb line of stands. By 1878, he had severed his connection with Bausch& Lomb, and opened his own business in Rochester. Gundlach Optical Company remained in Rochester and continued to make Gundlach microscopes into the 20th century. However, Gundlach's exact relationship to this company is unclear. It is known that he had no connection to the company after 1895, and, instead, produced photographic lenses under the name"Gundlach Photo-Optical Co. In 1902, Gundlach Optical Company acquired Manhattan Optical Co. They manufactured microscopes under their new name, Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Co. a common example being a small case-mounted portable microscope. Ernst Gundlach returned to Germany around 1900.

Rare Antique The "Excelsior" Telescope & Microscope Combined in Box Dated 1906
MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THIS WONDERFUL ESTATE SALE FIND AND WE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING LIKE IT ON THE INTERNET. SO I THINK IT IS A RARE ITEM AND IT IS IN THE ORIGINAL BOX. THE LABEL ON THE BOX EXPLAINS HOW TO USE THIS INSTRUMENT AND IT WILL EXTEND UP TO APPROX. 27" THIS IS MADE BY KIRTLAND BROS. CO. AND CALLED"THE EXCELSIOR" WHICH IS A TELESCOPE AND MICROSCOPE COMBINED. THE LABEL GIVES YOU THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE IT. IN ONE OF MY PHOTOS I HAVE THE BLUE TUBE INSERT THAT HAS THE LENS IN BOTH ENDS. THAT IS WHAT YOU CAN REMOVE FROM THE LAST SECTION TO USE AS A MICROSCOPE SEPARATELY, WHEN INSERTED IN THE END PIECE IT IS NOW A TELESCOPE. EACH SECTION CAN BE REMOVED AND THERE IS A BLACK LINE THAT SHOWS YOU WHERE TO STOP WHEN YOU EXTEND THE SECTIONS(ONE OF THE BRASS BANDS IS MISSING)WE WERE PRETTY IMPRESSED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION ... moreOF THIS AND I THINK YOU WILL BE TOO. THIS DOES HAVE SOME WEAR, THE LAST SECTION HAS SOME OF THE PAPER THAT HAS WORN OFF AND IT IS MISSING IT'S BRASS BAND, BUT THIS STILL EXTENDS AND CLOSES, BUT YOU HAVE TO WORK A LITTLE TO GET IT TO OPEN AND CLOSE. THIS HAS PICTURED A SOLAR EYE PIECE THAT MUST BE MISSING. THERE IS A NOTICE THAT READS: UNSCRUPULOUS PARTIES HAVE APPRECIATED OUR CUTS AND STYLE OF LITERATURE AND ARE SENDING OUT ANOTHER SMALL. INFERIOR FOUR SECTION TELESCOPE ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SAY IT HAS DUST CAPS, ETC. IN THEIR ADVERTISING. OUR NAME INSURES THE BEST. THE PATINA ON THE BRASS IS DARK. I THINK IT WOULD BE BEAUTIFUL NICE& SHINY, BUT ALWAYS UNSURE OF WHETHER YOU SHOULD OR NOT. I TOOK SEVERAL PHOTOS TO SHOW YOU ALL ASPECTS OF THIS. IT WAS A LITTLE HARD TO EXPLAIN. IT DOES WORK BUT WAS PROBABLY MADE AS A NOVELTY ITEM RATHER THAN A VERY FINE TELESCOPIC INSTRUMENT. THE BOX HAS CONSIDERABLE WEAR AND THE LABEL HAS A LITTLE MISSING FROM IT BUT ENOUGH IS SAVED TO READ HOW TO USE THIS. THIS SHOWS WEAR BUT IT HAS LASTED 108 YEARS. PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS. Rare and Antique Dilatometer in Working Order. Circa 1880
Rare and Antique Dilatometer in Very Good Condition and Working Order. Circa 1880 This curious item is a dilatometer: a device that calculates the change of volume of the different materials(metals in this case) when heated. It shows an extremely simple though ingenious configuration. Being in magnificent condition too. The instrument works fine and is quite attractive; it is made of polished brass, stands on a solid wooden base and mounts a silvery metal scaled arch. It is probably a teaching instrument, though these devices were also used by the factories to calculate the capacity for extension of the different materials. The article we are talking about has a solid mahogany base in good condition. Rectangular in shape and with four small square legs that provide it with height and stability. The brass components of the device are attached ... moreto the base. We can see two vertical stands, one at each end, that support the metal rods to be tested. The right stand has a screw to immobilize the rods. Between both stands there is a horizontal hollow cylinder with three chimneys designed contain wicks; these wicks must be lighted to heat the rod. When the user puts the rod over the three fires. The metal expands and the left end of the rod pushes a metal plate connected to a brass vertical stand. The plate is attached to a metal pointer; the two pieces make up an element that oscillates on a screw. The screw is connected to a 90-degree scaled angle. When the metal rod expands the pointer moves upwards and indicates the degrees corresponding to the maximum change of volume. Antique Microscope - Small - Brass - Wood Case - Extremely Rare - Nice Condition
Hello. For sale is a beautiful antique microscope. Very nice condition. No manufacturer markings that I can identify. Extremely rare in this size. Small. About 7.5 inches tall, 2.5 inches across, 3.25 inches deep. Solid heavy metal with classic brass parts and accents. Includes a specimen magnifier which is also very rare. 2 extra objective lens. Also includes wood case. There is wear and a crack in the cover of the case. I believe it is German made. Most likely over 100 years old. Overall. A unique antique. Please let me know if I may answer any of your questions. Thank you.
