Here we have an antique microscope that is marked"Belcher& Mason Birmingham. England" on one part and on the lenses it's marked"Spencer Lens Co" It is also marked Spencer and Serial Numbered on the base. There are 4 eye pieces that are marked"Ernst Leitz Wetzlar" There is also a wooden box with sliding draws for additional eye pieces. I'm not sure what is missing but there is most likely a few parts missing. Also there is some damage to the rotating lens area of the microscope as you can see as well as wear all over the microscope. Nice Vintage A.O. Spencer Brass& Cast Microscope 445. B-35-83. This microscope is in near pristine condition There is an etching which reads NCSU 0116-01-11 on the right base. One nick on the stem, and a few small ones on the back of the base. This one is in really nice shape. The movements are smooth and tight. The eyepieces are Compens 15x, and the objectives are all Spencer. It's a really beautiful scope.

The black portion of the microscope and the base are made of some other type of metal. There are 6x, 8x, and 10x eye lenses included. The serial number of this microscope is#5030 which seems to be extremely low which would make the production early. It is marked with a patent date of“Dec. 11, 1900” The mirror at the bottom is two sided. It measures 12 ¼” tall x 6” x 4 ¼” It comes in the original wooden case with brass accessories as shown. Antique Microscope SPENCER LENS CO. Mod. 12374 Optics are by Spencer Lens Co.
The microscope is missing the two slide holders. The backside of the mirror is missing most of its finish. But is not broken. The optics appear to be ok. I have no way to really test them. The base is cast iron and the rest of the body is brass. The eyepiece is numbered 10. The two lens are numbered 29221 and 28817. The numbers are hard to read. I think I have it right. The name on the base is faded but still readable. The lens swivels easily and snaps in place. The hole scope body rotates back and forth to find your comfort zone. The eyepiece rides up and down on its track easily. Fully extended it is 12 3/4" high. Front-to- back is 5 7/8" and it is 4 1/8" wide. Questions. Comments, concerns. A really nice Spencer microscope in brass and cast black painted metal. This piece has three lenses along with swing out underside style lens. In good condition with some wear from use. A stain to the brass on the right side by the platform. Top of the under lens has some corrision to the metal. The base has some loss to it's black paint. This Spencer Lens Co. 1900 Microscope has a Brass Body and a Cast Iron Base. The only large part that is magnetic is the base. The eye piece is 8X. And the bottom lens is a Bausch& Lomb 2/3 Series 1, 25 NA. The Patent was given on December 11, 1900 with the date that the Microscope was made was August 28, 1906. The microscope is about 11 5/8" in height. The base is about 5 7/8" deep with the width of about 4 3/16" I found this microscope at an estate of a Dr. from Illinois. Here is and antique and rare SPENCER BINOCULAR swing arm DISSECTING MICROSCOPE with a fitted mahogany case. The microscope is an incredible piece from the early time in microscope history. It has that steampunk look to it. The arm allows you to swing out the head to see objects that may be too large to place on the stage. The main body tilts back to allow more light to fall onto the object under observation. It appears to be made of cast iron because it's heavy. But part may be brass. The whole microscope is covered in black enamel. There is a wheel under the stage that can use filters and it turns like it should. It contains a single white disk. There are two set of ocular or eyepiece lenses. One set is 5x and the other set is 10x. That's a total of 4 lenses. The case is just as beautiful as the microscope. I don't know enough about this microscope to say what's missing or not working. I can tell you that there is wear and missing enamel paint because it is an antique. The focus knob works smoothly. ANTIQUE Vintage BRASS SPENCER Lab Microscope with EXQUISITE BELL JAR ENCLOSURE
This is an ANTIQUE Spencer BRASS Microscope. It was given to me by my family doctor in 1955- he had it in medical school. It comes with a very tall beautiful GLASS VESSEL(Bell Jar) enclosure that envelopes the microscope. SEE PHOTOS) The Bell Jar consists of very thick heavy glass with a flat smooth bottom that creates a tight seal. It is 19.25 tall x 11” diameter at the base. And a 9” diameter cylinder. The combination of the vessel and microscope makes for an exquisite presentation. Both have been kept in air conditioned storage for 51 YEARS! The microscope is in very good condition. Esthetically& functionally. It seems to have an unusually INTRICATE STAGE MECHANISM and lens mounts under the stage(see photos) It is marked Spencer Lens Co. Buffalo New York. What a beautiful EARLY microscope! Serial number 9915 indicates it was made in 1900. 115years old. Used at the University of Pittsburgh. Eyepiece reads U of P also. The base is lead filled red bronze. Stage is pure copper. What beautiful workmanship! Still works perfect.

Antique Spencer Lens Co telescopic microscope for display/parts. Cast iron with part number engraved brass fittings/lenses. Spencer Lens Co. Buffalo New York metal tag on foot of scope. Bottom shows Patent Pending date 1915. Condition is fair. Some rust accumulation on bolts, iron is in good shape, black color, brass fittings need polishing. 3 part lens attachment has glass, there appears to be 2 lenses in one"eye" and 1 lense in the other 2. Telescopic main lens missing, however telescope extends but does not stay in place, unextended the scope is 12" high, 5" across, 7" deep. Selling as is. Weighs 8.5 lbs solid iron.
