Brass ... moreMicroscope My clients husband found this microscope in the remains of an old building and cleaned it up very well. Most all the adjustable parts move. Though some are a little harder than others. It is missing 1 of the 3 magnifying lenses that can rotate to any one of the 3 positions. It may be missing other parts that I don't know about. The eye piece does not appear to be the proper one for this scope, but does fit in the chamber. The mirror at the base does have blemishes on both sides. It has many more options than some of the other scopes that I have found from this era. It has 2 patent dates that I can find, one from Feb 1897& one from Aug. 1897. The serial number is on the base#26739. It is 14 1/2" Tall x 6" Deep x 4 1/4" Wide I was unable to really see anything as I didn't have the knowledge or the material to test. I'm sure that it does need some restoration. Though it is a great looking decorative piece as it sits. This is the condition it has been in for many years and I did not attempt to polish or take apart to clean. I am going to do my best to describe this antique ... morebrass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has a round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

This is a very cool World War I era antique/vintage Bausch& Lomb microscope acquired from the University of Colorado. Boulder. Ocular, lenses, and body are label'Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, NY. This unit has a cast iron body and I believe the rest of it brass, though some of it has been enameled black. One of the lenses is labeled 170mm and the other 16mm. Light passes through the optics, but that is the extent of my testing. 93' is etched into the side of the ocular and stenciled onto the base. Table has a small crack on the side. Vintage Bausch& Lomb Antique Brass Microscope Circa 1899 The pictures do not do justice to the way this instrument gleams! All the movements move freely with no binding or sticky spots. The Irises on the condenser move freely as well. The bottom iris looks like it is missing a couple of the leaves, there is what appears to be one of them that was in the drawer of the case. It is shown in one of the pictures. The Case is in good shape. But it is showing it's age, the cabinet does lock and includes a key. I have added a shipping charge to this due to the extra care that is needed to package this securely to ensure it will arrive safely also to cover the extra charges due to it's weight.

There were 10 microscopes recently at a high end auction that appeared to be from someone's collection or a high end store that dealt in them. I acquired 6 of them. Here is another one of them. There is some corrosion to the brass and painted surfaces in places. The black painted part of the microscope stand is some sort of other metal. ... moreThere are the patent dates of October 1876 and October 1885 noted on a brass plate on the microscope. This microscope appears to be a bar limb design. I do not see a serial number on the microscope. But do see the number"37" impressed on the bottom of the stand. The objective has Bausch& Lomb impressed on it and"tube length 8.5" I can see Bausch& Lomb on the eye lens, but not a strength The mirror at the bottom of the scope is two sided. Not cracked or blistered, but the mirroed surface does show some wear. The glass for the lens and objective are dusty and may have some minor scratching. I see no blistered cracked or missing glass in the lenses or objectives. The microscope is 11.75" tall. By 4-1/8" across, by 6.5" wide. Vintage unopened small bottle of Cedar Oil by Bausch& Lomb. Of Rochester, NY, dating from circa mid 1930s. The bottle is 2 ¼ inch tall, with a diameter of approx 7/8 of an inch, a size that makes it suitable for storage in the usual rack for objectives found in vintage microscope cases. It is wrapped in a brown see-through paper. The label says"cedar oil immersion objective" fill the dispensing bottle about a quarter to half full of cedar oil. If the bottle is more than half full. Wonderful antique Bausch& Lomb double pillar microscope- possible circa 1880s. Everything works and the microscope is fully functional. The scope stands ~15.5 inches tall with the tube fully extended. The fine focus is on the bottom of the stage. The mirror has some silvering- see photos and the black lacquer on the base is worn in places. There is one B&L objective marked 1/2. The brass. However shines and looks great. Here you go. it's old and brass with a chrome draw tube and single objective lens. I can't find a maker's name on the body but the eyepiece has Carl Zeiss Jena on it. The nearest thing I've found is a Bausch and Lomb Harvard model microscope. You however are the expert here. Dates on the body are as follows: Pat. Oct. 3. 1876" and"Pat. Vintage Bausch& Lomb laboratory microscope with. The microscope is marked 236357. The microscope appears to be in good condition but I'm not sure how to use it so it is being sold as is. All parts seem to move correctly. When looking through the top lens I did see a crack in the glass. I'm not sure which glass is cracked. So please note that there is a crack when you look through the top. Other than that it appears to be pretty good cosmetically but does show some signs of age and wear and needs cleaned. Please view the pictures for details. The microscope comes with multiple lenses including a 19mm 91x oil immersion lens. A 16mm 10x divisible lens and a 4mm lens. This piece is very heavy. Antique Vintage Bausch & Lomb Jug Handle Microscope with some Nickle Plating
Antique Bausch& Lomb jug handle microscope with very nice Spencer mechanical stage. Serial number looks to be 66590. Which makes its age around 1907. This is a unique microscope because the fine and course focus nobs are nickle plated. The rest of the microscope is brass except for the base. The mirror has some minor silvering and the black lacquer shows some wear. The Spencer stage works well, the sub stage condenser is clear, and the sub stage iris works well. The three objectives are B&L and the scope comes with a 10X eye piece. This is a great fully functional jug handle microscope and will make a wonderful addition to any collection.

The Case has a hole in the front(from what I do not know) and also there is no key for the lock. There is some other marks in the wood on the case. This auction is for an amazing early Bausch& Lomb Universal brass microscope with original mahogany case. Additional lenses and accessories. This has the earlier one line patent on the side. There is an original B& L cardboard card for magnifying combinations that identify this as microscope number 3316. The scope is in great condition with no dents or scratches. The varnish is crazed in some areas. There are spots of tarnish as well. I will not clean the microscope. I will let the winning bidder decide on the finish. Everything moves easily with precision. It has four Carl Zeiss Jena eyepieces(1. 2, 3, and 6(Compens Ocular) and an adapter for them. The six needs to have the bottom lens reinserted. It looks like the retaining ring was bent. The lens has no issues. It also has five B& L eyepieces(two bases are labeled A and two ... moreare labeled C, and one labeled D but the lenses are etched A, 1, D, and unetched) There is a C base with no upper that is different from the other four. This BAUSCH& LOMB MODEL R MICROSCOPE is in excellent condition and works perfectly. The only thing you are missing are the hold downs for the slide. Bit it works perfectly well without them. The adjustment knob has very smooth action and it's easy to focus. This is the type of microscope which used to be issued to schools so it's pretty durable. Course and fine focus mechanisms move smoothly and focus to a crystal-clear view. Optics are clear and sharp with great color and contrast. The plano-concave mirror is excellent on both sides. The instrument is finished in lacquered brass and painted black brass. The two objectives are engraved with Bausch& Lomb and the following: 4 mm 0.85 and 16 mm 0.25 N.A. Feb 16 1897. On the eyepiece lens top is 7.5& in a triangle B-L Z S. The eyepiece is in very good condition. Both sides of the bottom mirror look fine. There are some marks and scratches on the brass throughout but it looks pretty good. The part that turns and the lenses screw into has a black paint coating on top of the brass. The black is flaking off in spots. The one lens is marked 1/6 and that's it. The other brass lens has"Bausch& Lomb Optical Co Rochester N.Y. 16mm 0.25 N.A. The lenses need lightly cleaned. Beautiful brass antique microscope Bausch Lomb with case lenses
Up for bids is a wonderful brass and enamel microscope from a local estate. It come in the original case. The lenses are original and come with the small containers as well. The microscope is about 14" tall. All the moving parts move as they should. The box is worn and could stand some re-gluing. There is some wear to the scope as shown. Displays beautifully. I have a vintage Bausch& Lomb microscope that has been stored for many years in a storage shed. The microscope has a number on the front: 282199- possible 40's– 50’s. All knobs work freely and lenses look alright. The adjusting plate knob(two knobs exist side by side on the plate area) outside knob appears to be bent. But still works perfect. Microscope used to be part of the Arkansas State Board of Health. And is marked this in three areas(see Pics. Top lens is marked W10X-15.5MM. Bottom three are 97X. 43X, and 10X. Microscope is dirty here and there. And needs to be cleaned. Also included is a working light source 120v lamp with an on/off switch– all works. And lights up as shown. It was in poor storage for many uears and the reflective mirror has corrosion and is displaced from its plate. Some surface rust on the scope body but you can see light when you look into it. Antique 1915 brass Bausch& Lomb microscope. Serial number 101997. All 3 feet swing out. Has a 16mm. 4mm, 1.9mm lenses, Includes a partially filled bottle of cedar oil, a blue lens, 2 eyepieces- 5& 10. Microscope stands 11 3/4. I don’t have any slides but light goes through. double sided mirror. Condition- everything seems to work as it is suppose to. Has been lightly cleaned. I didn’t find any missing or broken pieces. It will need a deep cleaning. I didn’t want to risk improper cleaning. Lenses have there cases. The case- when I found it, the box was locked with no key. After all attempts, I had to remove the back and some of the felted supports. It is missing the back of the box- I thought I had it but I can’t find it. I believe this is a late 19th Century microscope. The only number on it is"63" on the outside of both feet. It weights about 4lbs. 8 ozs. and is 10 1/2" tall when compressed. All parts seem to be working. It has some nice features: Original Bausch and Lomb objective marked 43X 4mm.65 Patented Oct 13. 1925 Bausch and Lomb objective marked 10X 16mm.25 Original Eyepiece is marked Bausch and Lomb. And has a'1' marked on it. Square. Solid stage for placing specimens on Extra deep throat for working with larger specimens. This was not a student model but a professional instrument. The upper body inclines for easier focusing of light and use. Substage condensor and diapraghm are both working condition Both sides of the substage mirror are working and in nice condition. Nice golden lacquer on objectives and wheels. Square stage with one slide holder, fine focus working ... moreand gross focus working as well. Marked'66' in red paint on rear of horseshoe base(probably for medical school work) While it could use some cleaning, it is a mechanically sound instrument showing signs of wear that could be nicely cleaned up for use. Optics are usable, noting some needed cleaning and signs of wear. I could easily see the fibers in a piece of paper with writing on it. It would make a great display piece for the office. Desk, or a great"real" microscope for the kids to play with. Bausch and Lomb. Long associated with optics manufacturing, first made spectacles, and later microscopes and accessories. Their first microscope was produced in 1874. Microscopes were produced sparingly in the early years, with only 150 serial numbers on record in the first year 1876, and less than 2000 total made by 1883. Convex side mirror has lost a portion of its silvering. The Abbe condenser is labeled Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. and has four index position the condenser works and can be ... morerotated by a pin but is missing the lever. Patent dates on right side of frame Oct. 3 1876 and October 13, 1885. On the right side of the limb of this instrument one finds this U.S. Patent Date: Pat. Oct. 3. 1876”see close-up image) This U.S. Patent date refers to U.S. Patent No. 182,919 that was awarded to Ernst Gundlach, Inventor, of Rochester, N.Y. Gundlach made several significant contributions to the design of microscopes offered by B&L during his relatively brief 3-year tenure with the company(NOTE: For more on the history of the B&L optical firm see below) This instrument features Gundlach’s fine focus mechanism described in that Patent. Antique Bausch & Lomb Optical Simple Monocular Dissecting Microscope Medical
Label says Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester NY 133384. The two lenses say Coddington B& L O. CO. and one is 19mm the other is 38mm. Tongue and groove wooden box has shelf for lenses. Brass handle and hinges. Generally good conditions. A little spotting on one side of the mirror but the other side is perfect and minor rust on the screw tops. Bausch& Lomb. Of Rochester New York, introduced this simple monocular dissecting microscope in 1903. The instrument is supported by a sturdy brass horseshoe-shaped base that secures a four-inch tubular pillar upon which the stage and eyepiece(ocular) are mounted. A swinging arm that houses the ocular is attached to the top of the pillar. The stage plate is four and a half inches square and has a glass specimen plate of the same size. The substage double mirror is attached to the pillar via ... morea swinging tailpiece. Focus is achieved with a triangular bar through a rack and pinion gear mechanism that moves the stage up and down on the pillar.

I'm not going to pretend I know much about these. According to the serial number this was made in 1896. This looks like it was made yesterday. There is also some extra parts(see photo) It stands 15 inches tall when extended The surface is smooth and shiny. The only problem area is on the side of the base in which someone scratched most likely their DL# see last pic) There are some extra brass containers but these are empty. The wooden box is original and does lock. There is only one key. The only other problem I see is on one side of the mirror it appears the silver is scratched. The other side looks great. can see this in the pics) You will be getting everything in the pictures, ... moreif not in the pictures you will not be getting whatever you think it is that you should.
