This antique brass binocular microscope was manufactured by Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. It was made before 1930 and is an original piece. While it is incomplete, ... moreit is still a valuable addition to any collection. There are small pieces missing as well as the base. One could add a weighted wood base and mount the microscope for display. The microscope as it sits is just under 5 pounds! The microscope falls under the category of antiques and scientific instruments, specifically microscopes and lab equipment. It does not have a California Prop 65 Warning.

Super rare Bausch & Lomb The Model Universal Monocular Microscope. Based on serial number look up, this unit with serial number ‘8919’ (stamped on the ... moreinside lower baseboard of the wood case) is dated between 1890-91 (Thanks to Paul to call out my mistake on manufacturing date). All optics and the body are very clean and considered excellent for an 100+ years old microscope. Wood carrying case is in fine condition with the original hardware and key although missing screws in one side to not keep the handle in place as pictured. Two eyepieces and three lenses are all original. I acquired this set from someone who claimed this was received as a gift from the original owner (a doctor resided in Portland, OR).

Hinges are not screwed to box. Needs screws. I cleaned with soap and water. Left the rest for the professionals to clean. Total weight is 15lbs. Just microscope weighs about 7 1/2 lbs. I am not an expert on microscopes. But everything seems to move and work great! This is a very rare microscope! You will not find one for sale anywhere! Great ... morefor the high end collectors! Biography: Robert Bruce Tolles was born 1823 in Connecticut and had little formal education. In 1844. He was apprenticed to Charles A. Spencer in Canastota, NY, and about 1858 established his own business in Canastota. By 1859, he was fabricating microscopes with Charles E. Grunow. Tolles made major innovations in the optics of microscopes and held several patents. In 1867. Tolles moved to Boston and became a partner in Boston Optical Works, at 66 Milk Street. And later 131 Devonshire Street, Boston. The partnership broke up in 1872, and Tolles continued the business on his own. Charles Stodder, who had been the distributor of Tolles microscopes and telescopes since 1860, and formerly a partner in the Boston Optical Works, continued to sell Tolles products after the dissolution of the partnership. After Tolles died in 1883. The business was carried on by Charles X. Dalton, who had worked for Tolles making metal microscope and telescope stands since his Canastota days and who had moved with him to Boston. This is a one deal and will not be relisted! Good Luck!

Favorite Things is delighted to welcome you to our Ebay Auction. I always try and provide unique collectibles that expand your imagination. Enjoy our auction and come back soon. Offered is an Unmarked French Antique Lacquered Brass Field Drum Microscope from ca1850's. Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research ... morewith you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. The only difference is the bull's eye lens on a moveable arm is put in a different. 4. Als

Antique ca. 1790 wood, bone & brass Withering-type case-mounted microscope
Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. I sell now a small fraction of my collection of historical field microscopes in order to finance some new acquisitions. Offered here for auction is an antique late 18th century Withering-type case-mounted microscope. History: For a detailed historical review of William Withering and his microscopes. Please read pages 3-9 of my article, accessible here: The“Withering-type Microscope” is named for its inventor. Dr. William Withering(1741-1799) an English physician and botanist who graduated with a degree in medicine 1766 in Edinburgh. After graduation Withering was appointed physician at the Stafford Royal Infirmary. In 1775 Withering was appointed physician at Birmingham General Hospital. Inspired by the taxonomical work and systematic classification ... moreof Carl Linnæus(1707-1778) Withering applied the Linnaean taxonomical system of classification to British plants in a seminal, two volume work, A Botanical arrangement of all the vegetables naturally growing in the British Isles(1776) This work remained in use in thirteen subsequent editions. The last of which was published in 1877; thus functionally“surviving” its author by many decades. Withering advertised two major types of microscopes in the earlier volumes of this book, which he developed for the dissection of flowers. The last photo presents the microscope listed here, as depicted in the fourth edition of his book(1801) Descriptions of this microscope appear already in the second edition of 1792. Condition: Because these microscopes were made of sensitive materials. With hinges and folding parts, not many survived the over two centuries that elapsed since their production. This microscope is in very good condition for the age. The second(free) lens is missing. Otherwise. The microscope is very well preserved. You won't find many of these in auctions. SHIPPING(please read carefully! Shipping is made promptly(within a day) after receiving cleared
