This one comes attached to a wooden cane that is apparently original ... moreto it as I have found this same exact type of cane with this same style of handle at a recent cane auction and it sold for almost 2500 Dollars. The handle is softpaste porcelain and nicely hand painted with the typical under glaze blue decoration with a flower on the top part. A typical pattern all around as well. This cane handle is in great condition with some of the top clear coat glaze is worn from use but that is common on soft paste porcelain. There are some black marks on the top as well where the cane hit something dark and some of the dark color rubbed of onto the cane it seems. Should come clean if need be I would think. In really good condition for other tops I have seen/owned. It is unmarked as far as I can see since it is attached but that is the norm anyway. The handle is 2 inches tall and 1.25 inches in diameter. A rare little item from one of the best makers from the 18th century! The cane part is in good condition with some minor scratches. The bottom metal has been flattened a bit from use and the leather strap that goes through the hole in the top is new. The metal around the whole and the metal that hold the porcelain top and the wooden cane together seems to be silver. The entire cane is about 35 inches long. Antique Soft Paste Figurine, 18th C, Three Figure Group, Derby? Bow?
This fine. Early, hand-painted porcelain figurine is a grouping of three children; two little boys pulling a little girl on a small chariot. The flowers and leaves are applied, there is gold detail and some tiny painted beading along the girl's skirt. The overall condition is excellent. There is some loss of gold detailing along edges where it would have been handled; perfectly normal for an item this old. The underside has a low, inner rim, which acts as a pedestal(perhaps it sat on a real pedestal at one time) Along the inside of this rim is a small chip, which cannot be seen unless the figurine is turned upside down. This is not really a detriment, as it gives further proof that this is a soft-paste item. The chip reveals a graininess that is not seen with hard-paste. There are numerous markings on the base, but none that were definitive. ... moreSome hand-painted markings are partially obliterated with age. Impressed in the center of the base is the number"88" above a horizontal line. Beneath this line are three parallel, slightly diagonal lines. The chip mentioned above is the only flaw. There are no chips, cracks or repairs that could be found. This item measures 4 5/8 inches long, 2 7/8 inches wide, and 4 inches tall. We believe this item to have been manufactured circa 1750. It is very like Derby or Bow items of that period, but we can't be sure. Derby porcelain figurine from around 1775. This figurine is inscribed No 311 on the base and is 8 1/2" tall. I believe she should be playing a triangle. But that and other bits have come adrift in the passage of 230 years! Her left arm has been substantially repaired and might be worth better restoration. That aside she is a majestic figurine with superb colors. I have owned this for over 20 years. But since downsizing do not have a place for her. Exquisite pair of 19th century English Staffordshire figures. The male and female flower vendors carry baskets of a variety of delicate. Individually crafted flowers. Some of the fragile petals have broken but do not visually detract from the beauty of these figures. The material is soft paste. Antique Cherub Figurine BASSANO ITALY Soft Paste Porcelain ITALIAN POTTERY PUTTI
This is an antique soft paste glazed porcelain Italian pottery figurine featuring two winged cherubs or putto. One is playing a lyre lute and the other has a horn or wind instrument. The piece is signed on the underside incised"CG. BASSANO" The cherubs are atop a beautifully patterned plateau with raised scrolls and dart embellishments impressed into the ceramic. They are leaning against a baluster fence. They have the finest handmade details of wavy hair, fingers and toes, feathered wings, facial features, and strategically draped ribbon sash on their bodies. The condition of this item is very good, noting that the end of the little horn was broken off but is not noticeable. I actually have had this piece on my shelf at eye-level for a little while now, and hadn't noticed the flaw until just now upon final inspection for condition ... morereport. Height 5.5" base diameter 4.25" The work is much finer than other Bassano pieces I have seen. Exact age unknown, but I would guess more than 60 years old. This would be beautiful under a glass dome. It is done in the early Bassano ceramic arts quiet French style with no color, as was fashionable for elegant and highly sophisticated interiors of 18th century Paris society. ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS. The maiden has lost the tip of 1 big toe, parts of all her ribbons and lots of her flowers and petals, she too has over all crazing. They both have small bits of grit within the top glaze. The figures represent the four seasons. Each is of a cherub like figure with the appropriate accoutrement's for the season he represents. The figures each measure approximately 7 1/2 inches or 19 cm tall. Each of the figures sits on an elaborate base. The bases are decorated with many applied flowers. Fruits and other vegetation. Spring holds a basket of flowers. Summer a basket of grapes. Fall harvesting wheat and winter trying to warm himself with a brazier. The porcelain is also decorated in parts with applied gold. Besides their rarity what helps set these figures apart is their condition. There are some minor ... morelosses to the flowers leaves etc but overall these figures are in a condition rarely found. Almost perfect with no restoration. Each figure is signed on the back with a bow mark in red. All we can say is WOW! We have never seen anything that has taken our breathe away like this pair of 14" Boy& Girl clowns. Appears to be of soft paste with handpainted face features and molded hair. The clothing is cloth which has either stiffened with age or was made to be stiff. The pointed clown hats are covered with strips of the same material as the clothing. There are no cracks.Chips,breaks etc. We found these in the attic along with the Georg LeyKauf(also on auction tonight) on a house call. Both a matched pair marked with the red anchor and red dagger. Probably made about 1760. These figures are a pair. One being the being a shepherdess and other the shepherd. They are both illustrated in the book BOW PORCELAIN FIGURES circa 1748-1774 by Peter Bradshaw on page153 and again on page 202. Idealized representations of shepherds and shepherdesses. Often fashionably dressed, were very popular in Western Europe in the mid-18th century. The Bow factory copied these figures of a shepherd and shepherdess from a pair made at the Meissen porcelain factory in Germany. They are richly decorated in rich colors with gold details.
