That means ... moreit is one of the rare original pieces and not a later copy! I think I have seen this design by Unterweissbach as well but that would be a bit later. The bird is superbly hand painted in very naturalistic colors and looks almost real. He sits on top of a thistle which is is pecking at. The piece is in perfect condition. It is 4.625 inches tall. 2.25 inches wide and about 4.375 inches long. The piece is marked with the impressed fox mark as well as the impressed model number I cannot make out easily but it seems to be U1098. Probably one of their last models. It is in overall excellent condition with no cracks or repairs. Has a tiny flake and very minor fritting to foot. Has a factory firing flaw at back foot. Very light glaze scratches here and there along with other signs of expected light wear commensurate with age. Measurements: 9"H. 17"W, base is 3.25"L. It measures 12 ½ in. long(from the nose to the tip of the tail) and 6 7/8 in. tall at its tallest point. It is a beautifully pure white. Referred to as undecorated. The figure’s rippling muscles and the sculptor’s attention to other details of the dog’s anatomy are most striking. We believe that this is a Great Dane dog but but it also could be a Doberman Pinscher. Please look at our many photographs for a better sense of this piece’s drama and beauty. The underside has an impressed mark that reads“Schwarzburger Werkstatten fur Porzellankunst” on two lines) Above this is a blue ink-stamped running fox mark(Interestingly the ... moreglaze from the top is extended a bit to the underside’s outer edges and does cover the running fox. This mark was in use between 1920 and 1925. Below this is the serial number U1200. The U may signify that this was originally an Unterweissbacher design that was carried over to Schwarzburger Werkstatten. We believe that this beautiful figurine was designed by Arthur Storch because the top of the oval base of the figure has a stylized capital AS incised into it towards the top rear followed by what may be a small letter“f” or” t but this may also be a decorative mark. We are not positive about the initials being those of Arthur Storch. This is a near mint piece showing no wear. It has no chips. Cracks or crazing.
